Quick Update:

Metacritic has Persona 4 at an astounding 93. Despite being the OP, I don't have a copy. Maybe I should get around to it. ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seems like all the Persona 3 lovin' has convinced Atlus to release Persona 4 this year!
Just announced today at Anime Expo, the game will come out Dec. 9th in a 2-Disk release, similar to the original Persona 3 launch (with one disk being a soundtrack). MSRP is $39.99.
From Destructoid...
I'm here covering the Shin Megami Tensei panel at Anime Expo here in Los Angeles (more coverage on that later), but I wanted to drop in now and say that Persona 4 does have a US launch date now. I'm so happy!
After hearing the full history of the Shin Megami Tensei games (awesome, by the way), Atlus surprises us with the screen you're seeing above. Just in time for the holidays, P4 will hit shelves on December 9th, 2008. This will also include a bonus soundtrack CD!
I know some of you haven't finished Persona 3: FES yet, so you better hurry!
Are you ready for P4 yet?
I just got my email as well. fucking awesome. I'll be preordering this ASAP but like EXStrike, I still really need to finish P3 FES.
There are three things I'm looking for in Persona 4:
Less routines (the school system is a blast in 3, but in 4 I want to wander around at my own leisure).
Control over partners in battle (I think this is in P4).
Multiple dungeons (really not a big deal, but maybe finding different TVs to enter dungeons would be cool).
If anyone knows some details regarding gameplay, please post.
It looks like one of the female characters is doing a move from the Haruhi dance, when you see the black silhouettes in the trailer. :lol:
And given the very short turn around between now and launch (Persona 3 and FES were out 1 year after their Japanese launch while Persona 4 will only have a 6 months difference) I wonder if they'll forgo the English dub and do Japanese subs to save time.
One can only wish.
P3 had great voice acting (much better than the Clockwork Orange ripoff that was FF XII's script).
I hope 4 has more from Yuri Lowenthal though.
I am hoping that Yuri Lowenthal wont be in the game since he is also doing the VA for the main character in Infinite Undiscovery and FFIV DS.
Good thing I just finished P3 this week. One improvement I can't wait for on P4 is directly controlling your party members instead of relying on dumb AI.
I wouldn't be surprised if they did make a second version and released it around next summer. That's why I'm going to buy this, but keep it sealed for awhile just in case.
It has nothing to do with how much enjoyment you can get out of the original. It's because 1) If Fes is any indication, it'll be a dull, 15-hour grind and 2) You have to buy the game again if you want to see the conclusion of the story.
I wouldn't mind an expansion of P4 as long as it's nothing like the Answer from FES.
My problem with FES wasn't that I had to buy the game a 2nd time. It was that The Answer just took all the things that made P3 enjoyable out of it. I loved the idea behind Social Links and going to school. It provided a welcomed break from all the dungeon crawling. Also, the fact they forced you to play at hardest difficulty didn't sit well with me...
So what did the Famitsu review say?
As per the OP: (Quick summary from someone on Gamefaqs.com)
Score: 8988 = 33/40 (Same as Persona 3)
Now if Persona 4 had a Fes equivalent that was like Persona 2 Eternal Punishment was to Persona 2 Innocent Sin, then yeah, I'd be motherfuckin' sold. But the chances of that are probably zero.
Sorry, I didn't see it the first time.
Can't say I'm surprised it's difficult. The SMT games usually are. Now that people are used to Persona 3, they're going to amp up the difficulty.
Wait if the cards are evokers, then what are the glasses for? Trendy fashion statement?
I guess so they can see the "shadows" or whatever the enemy is called this time around?
