Madden 09 is actually being released!

CAGiversary!
Since the old post got bumped off I figure It's worth another topic: The XBox isn't dead yet... well It's dead, but EA refuses to believe so.

Also available for pre-order at Bestbuy.com and FYE.com, and Gamefaqs posted the board again.

Madden 08 actually sold over 200k units on the original XBox life time which is pretty damn impressive considering the system was technically dead last year outside of two EA releases (Madden, and NCAA Football) and the Gamestop exclusive Ratatooie and 2k7 from 2k sports. http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=7179 . That's a pretty big holy shit moment, at least for sales. What are your predictions for 09 sales? I'm guessing 40k. Will this be the last XBox game, or will EA put out another one next year? Only time will tell.
I don't know, but I just blew $8 on 08 for the Xbox. Exactly 0 improvements to Franchise mode, so off to ebay it goes for a few bucks.
If NCAA 09 for PS2 is any indication, I'd expect Madden 09 to be a Madden 07 all over again.

Oddly enough, Madden 08 out of the box on Xbox actually said less player names than NFL 2k5 with updated rosters! Madden 06 had more features, IMO. I was very unimpressed with 08 on my trusty OG Xbox.

... and with that being said, I'll probably end up getting Madden 09 eventually. lol

NCAA 08 did 70k, and NCAA 09 didn't make its way to the Xbox. Sooo, if it sells under 100k, I doubt Madden 10 will be on XB. It's possible, I mean, 24 million XB's were sold....

Although I'm glad to see games still being released for the XBox, I really can't see it selling well at all especially since stores don't really even have an XBox area anymore.

At almost every Toys R Us I have been to, they have 2 or 3 games at the end of the 360 section and Circuit City moved all the games into a value bin. If they do put it out with the 360 games, I bet some people are going to mistakenly pick it up thinking it is the 360 version.

Even more strange is if EB/Gamestop will carry it since didn't they convert all their new XBox games to used? It would be weird for them to get in a brand new game and right away open them and sell them as used.

If it drops to under $10, I might pick it up.

Finally, I wonder if it ends up becoming one of the more rare games for the system like NCAA 2K3 basketball on Gamecube. Even if 08 did sell 200,000 copies a lot more people probably have next gen systems since a year ago and I would think it would sell a lot less.

I'll probably pick it up for $10 or less to, just to claim I own the last XBox game. But obviously I'll wait till next year to make sure its the last one.

Yeah... it outsold some of the games for Wii. That's really sad.

I picked it up on Wednesday and wanted to offer my thoughts for those still on the fence about this one.

Let me start out by saying I used to HATE Madden. NFL 2K3, 2K4 and especially 2K5 were way better for so many reasons, IMO.

The ONLY reason I picked up Madden 09 was:

1. The novelty factor, being likely the last Xbox game ever made.

2. I'm a Wisconsinite and thought it was cool Favre was on the cover, even though he's no longer here.

Anyway, I must say I was SHOCKED at how much this series improved, even since 07.

Here's what's great about it:

GRAPHICS: First off, as one of the Tiburon developers mentioned in his blog, they've tweaked the lighting this year and it really makes a huge difference. I truly haven't seen Madden look this pretty before, from the field to the player's uniforms and helmet reflections.

Also drastically improved are the animations, which I always said 2K5 had the best. I'd truthfully say that in 09, however, the way the players run and move is now on par with 2K5.

Also gone are the clipping issues of years past where you'd see one player literally meld into another one and run through him. Say this once in 8 games I've played thus far.

GAMEPLAY: New additions this year include removal of the passing cone for computer opponent (YAY), the ability to celebrate your touchdowns in one of three styles (over the top, low-key or team) and the right stick allowing the QB to evade a sack.

Gameplay overall on All-Pro setting seems more balanced than in years past.

AUDIO: the comments from John and Al are much more spot-on to the action of the field than they've ever been and there's far less dialogue repreated over and over as in previous years.

OVERALL: If you have an original Xbox and are jonesing for a new football game, do not hesitate to pick this one up.

It converted me, someone that hated the Madden series and always considered it second to ESPN's football.

Truthfully I expected this to be nothing more than the barest of ports from 08 (I hated that one, too) and am shocked and how it's not and how much time the development team actually invested in this one, given that it's last-gen.

The only place I found that sells the game at B&M locations is Best Buy and even then they don't seem to be stocking a whole lot. Use the 10 percent coupons delivered to rewardzone members and you'll only pay $36.

I'm just hoping 09 sells enough to convince EA to keep this thing going for at least one more year, given the improvements I've seen in this years version.

Now what are you waiting for.....go pick it up already.

I was stoked wen i found out 09 was comin out for xbox. i prolly wouldve upgraded if it didnt. But madden gameplay is way different in the nex gen consoles. I got 09 the day it came out and it great. Game suppliers all kept tellin me it wasnt released but i knew they were wrong and then i eneded up finding it at best buy. Id rather keep an xbox n pay 10 buks per game then spend 200 on a system n then spend 60 bucks per game. Call me cheap but the original xbox is golden n they gameplay is great. I wish they still released xbox games. Id buy them. I mean xbox still has online for people to connect n graphics are not everything that defines how good a game can be and we all kno that from many classic that we all love. If ps2 still makes games i dont see y xbox cant. I can only dream
