How long did it take you guys to Platinum? I'm somewhere between 50-60 hours and am far from it. Pretty close to giving up. Stupid stone chunks.

I went back to dig my response up lol

Took me around 90-100 hours for the plat, I pretty much got all the weapon trophies and ring trophy on my first playthrough. Then rest was playing through 3 times.

I have to say this game has been terrible for helping me to clear a backlog of games I've got. I'm like 14 hrs in and I'm only soul level 40, I essentially end up goofing around alot but I really like the game I think I screwed up and tried to make my character too balanced though, which makes things even a bit more unforgiving. I keep trying to load up on str, mag, and dex and it's not going that great. May have to take a mulligan....

Depends on what type of built you are going for. Typically I think people either choose str or dex to level up. Only leveling the other to the point they can use a particular weapon. Like str to 18 if so a dex built can use dual katanas. etc.

I have another charc around your level if you want help ;).

The new game+ seems cool so far, but I haven't decided whether to try to platinum it yet.

Glad we are going to see another one. Hope it will be a bit easier to get friends to play with rather than random people.

Too bad I lost my SL 152 to YLOD. It would be nice if they make the dungeon crawling random (ala Diablo 2 style). After the first play through, you knew where everything was, they just made the enemies do more damage overall.

If it was random I would die a million times, I only beat it by memorizing location.

Naw it would make the rating and messaging system even more useful and the co-op the way it should be (rather than them running through the level for you).

1. voice chat, and 2, the ability to actually invite a friend versus random. Random was a nice idea but this is a game and I want to play with friends without having to try a few times to get them into my game or vice versa.

Both of those would totally ruin the atmosphere of the game.

If you can't appreciate the reasons why those are absent from the game, then the game really just isn't for you, in my opinion.

Glad we're on the same level. Here's the thing though, people can still get to about the same soul level and time it right to get their friends in, why not just streamline the process and make it easier for people to play with friends. I'd rather spend 5 minutes playing versus 5 minutes trying to get a friend in.

That's why I added it in there. ;)

Basically, you're not supposed to do that. You can, and it's incredibly cumbersome to do it for a reason. It was deliberate, not an oversight. The whole idea is that you're supposed to be summoning random people to add variety and a sense of mystery to the game.

I could see a more streamlined summoning process and it not affect too much. Voice chat is a super no though.

yeah, the more i think about it, the more i realize voice chat probably would have ruined some of the great experiences i had with random blue / black phantoms (which was quite a few!)

PSN just needs cross game voicechat, so you could voicechat with a friend if you were playing

I recently played through several levels in NG+ with someone while talking via Skype, and it is a TOTALLY different game. This game has so much atmosphere, and having chat while playing co-op totally removes that. I'm very glad I played through NG by myself (had help from a blue on one level only, and it was a stranger so no chat).

My thoughts ^

Forget voice chat, they just need to make the dungeon crawling random (ala Diablo 2 style) and make it possible to invite friends into the game. Then the games message and rating system will even be more useful.

I don't think the design could really work well with random enemies at all. The level design and enemy placement and AI are very carefully interwoven. At least, it seems that way to me.

Also, how would the message system be useful if things were randomized? You could never leave messages warning about ambushes or strong enemies or what weapon/spell to use on the next enemy, etc.

Yeah I realized that. My gripe was just that after completing the game I knew where everything way. So the only hard part is the super damaging enemies.

Just imagine a Demon's Souls world where bi-weekly the dungeon crawling changes, then the message system would be in full use. The game is never the same when playing. Now the player must tread dungeons even more carefully than before and constantly be checking messages and blood stains. I dont think the bosses would be any different, but the dungeon crawling to get there would be different.

I think its a lot, but it would make the re-play value endless. Think about the uses with their black/white world tendencies. They should make weapon drops a bit more random too. Kind of got annoying when every high level player was using the best sword and shield in the game.

I still say no to the voice chat, allow text chat of course.

Yeah, I agree with your feeling. The worst part of Demon's Souls for me was that once I had played through all the worlds once or twice, I lost that feeling of exploration and excitement (and nervousness to a large degree on many worlds, like my first time through 3-1). And it could never be captured again.

DLC with new worlds would be great.

Anyhow, I think that's why so many people focus on PvP once they've played through the game a few times. It's the only way left to create new situations and still get enjoyment from this awesome game.

It still wouldn't be the same, and even the sequel wouldn't either. Once you climb the plateau that is Demon's Souls learning curve, you're basically set and have earned the price of admission

Voice chat with the option to mute people (easily) and I'm for it. We're in the year 2010, I want to be able to talk to the people I play with.

"Hey, take out that Blue Knight while I work on the Red one, sound good?"

As promised yesterday, Namco Bandai Partners has formally announced it’ll be releasing Demon’s Souls in Europe, with the firm also giving a date to the PS3 RPG: June 25.

The game will be released exclusively as a special pack called the “Black Phantom Edition”, which will contain the soundtrack, artbook and strategy guide. Namco Bandai Partners, however, are keen to stress this will be a “special limited launch” for the region.

“We’re very pleased to be working with SCEI to bring the fantastic Demon’s Souls to gamers outside of Japan and North America,” said Oliver Comte, VP of Marketing, Sales and Publishing at NBP.

“The game is exactly the kind of quality experience with which we are continuing to grow the NAMCO BANDAI Games portfolio of titles, and we will be working hard to ensure it’s at least as much of a success in our markets as it has already proven to be elsewhere.”

It brings to an end the demands of gamers in the EMEA region, who decided to skip importing the game, to bring the FromSoftware RPG to Europe after inital releases by Sony in Japan and Atlus in the US last year.

SCEE had said previously it had no plans to release the game in Europe, while Atlus hadn’t stated if it was bringing the game to the region.

A sequel has already been hinted at for a fall release in Japan.

Shots of the Black Phantom Edition are below, as well as the PR.

NAMCO BANDAI PARTNERS ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT INC TO DISTRIBUTE
‘DEMON’S SOULS’ IN EMEA AND PAL ASIA

- NAMCO BANDAI Partners S.A.S. to Distribute Acclaimed PlayStation®3 Action RPG Title from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. of Japan across EMEA and Asia Pacific Regions -

LYON, FRANCE – 16 April 2010 – NAMCO BANDAI Partners S.A.S., one of the video game industry’s leading distribution, marketing and sales companies, today announced an agreement with renowned Japanese publisher Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) for the distribution of the acclaimed action RPG title Demon’s Souls across the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions. Following its release in Japan and North America where it garnered high praise from media and a loyal audience of fans, the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) game will be launched on June 25, 2010 as an exclusive European limited edition retail pack containing the soundtrack CD, a new artbook and brand new strategy guide.

“We’re very pleased to be working with SCEI to bring the fantastic Demon’s Souls to gamers outside of Japan and North America,” said Olivier Comte, VP Marketing, Sales & Publishing NAMCO BANDAI Partners S.A.S. “The game is exactly the kind of quality experience with which we are continuing to grow the NAMCO BANDAI Games portfolio of titles, and we will be working hard to ensure it’s at least as much of a success in our markets as it has already proven to be elsewhere.”

Beautiful, compelling, and unforgiving, Demon’s Souls is one of the hardcore RPG experience PS3 owners have been waiting for since the platform’s launch.

Revolutionary online features support your adventure like never before, presenting seamless interconnectivity that serves in every instance to enhance the single-player game. Team up with other players in simultaneous cooperative play, working together to topple some of the game’s colossal bosses, or force your way into the games of skilled players and challenge them to PvP battle.

Leave hints and clues for those who will follow in your footsteps; either intentionally or through your own inadvertent demise, your bloodstains will allow your successors to view a replay of your death, hinting at how to avoid your gruesome fate. Unprecedented in its depth and subtlety, peerless in its relentlessly challenging gameplay, Demon’s Souls is the ultimate action RPG.

UK website Eurogamer.net awarded the title a resounding 9 out of 10 – “absolutely compelling; dark, detailed, unforgiving, creatively cruel,” and adding, “You can learn to love Demon’s Souls like few other games in the world.”

Gamespot awarded the game ‘Game of the Year 2009’ – “Brutally challenging and utterly engrossing, this innovative role-playing game is one of the year’s best.”

Featuring the game, a brand new hardback artbook filled with mesmerizing concept and game art images, a new strategy guide, plus the deeply atmospheric original soundtrack of the game on CD, the limited edition retail pack of Demon’s Souls is coming exclusively to EMEA and Asia Pacific on June 25, 2010, only for PS3. The European limited launch of Demon’s Soul’s can be pre ordered now from Play.com, Game.co.uk, HMV.co.uk and other leading retailers whilst stocks last.

Really? I think the DE in the US has great cover art. It is the same art from the Japanese game and it IS the game. It sums it up so well and goes perfectly. That box has more logos, a terrible spine... the only thing that looks like it might be remotely better is the book... but we got it over six months ago. That's a long time. I'll take our timely release thanks.

AFAIK, all the European box art for all games has plain white spines with plain black text for most (all?) systems. I suppose it was regulated that way for some reason? Anyone know why?
