When you quit out to the main menu, it autosaves.

It autosaves every time you enter a new zone, pick up loot, upgrade stats or weapons, or change something in your inventory.

Ya, I remember the first time playing it I spent 3 hours straight playing it annoyed that I hadn't yet found a save point .

Generally..

VS 1 Gecko - Use a thief ring & 2-hand your weapon. It also helps to get rid of some armor too. After that lock on w/ auto target, chase, and spam R1.

VS 2 Geckos - Use thief ring & pick off one w/ a bow at long distance using manual aim. Then refer to above strategy or just continue w/ arrows.

Archery is a very easy way to kill them. Using archery makes the game very easy. Using a clever rats ring and archery breaks the game.

I typically put on a thief's ring and cast cloak (thief's ring as back-up incase cloak ends early) as cloak lets you get closer before the enemy notices you. With cloak on you should be able to get just in lock on range with a bow or a spell. You are quieter in soul form so it is generally best to hunt them ones that drop rare stones (the crystal geckos in the last levels of each world) in soul form. If they start to burrow underground and disappear, you still have a few seconds to strike where they dug into the ground and they will reappear. If I remember correctly they can't sense fluid rolls, so as you approach their visual range you can roll forward once to get closer for a weapon strike before they start to move.

The best bow is the sticky long compound bow +5, and you buy the arrows from that thief you encounter in 1-1. You have to save him in one of the worlds and he will appear in the Nexus and that's where you buy the bows; Heavy Arrows are the best.

Quick way to get the WMD aka Compound Long Bow:
Go to Shrine of Storms 4-1. Make your way under the first arch and up the stair case. Be careful with the skeletons. If you have turpentine put that on a dagger and go stabbity death to them. After you get to the top of the stairs you will notice an arch with a fog gate go through the fog gate and make an immediate left and head down a narrow corridor. Keep your shield up and hug the right wall as you step on a pressure plate, three arrows will come towards you. Now you have a decision to make. Do you want to risk getting an awesome sword or go straight for the bow. If you want to get the sword go through the exit to the outside on your left and stairs on the right. To get the sword (Crescent Falchion +1) slowly walk forward and you will see a black skeleton, he will rape you and then drink a beer over your corpse. The easy way to get the sword is to equip your "Soul Remains" and throw them towards the tree. The soul remains will cause the skeleton to try and attack the thrown soul remains. At this point you run towards the item on the ground near where the skeleton was standing, grab the sword and keep running.

Backtrack to where you were but instead of going left go right up the stairs. When you get to the top of the stairs look to your left and you will see an archer on a ledge. Go underneath him and carve a path of destruction up to him. Kill him and pick up the compound longbow.

Ok I was a hardcore Monster Hunter 1 player back on the PS2 I played until literaly the last min the servers were up. This game reminds me alot of Monster Hunter not sure if anyone else noticed that or had even played Monster Hunter but the more and more I play the more I can see how they are similar of course they have their own difference but in basics they are close, just wish you could play with 4 people or even 2 the whole time not just a few mins to kill a boss.

Also can anyone post a date for Dark Soul's please.

There's no specific date yet but you can follow it up on the Dark Souls thread, it will most likely be released around November.

I believe Dark Souls is "holiday season" 2011, if it's like Demon's Soul's release, it will be around late October though it's not being published by Atlus in the US this time so previous release date may not be a factor.

===

I am partial to the Lava Bow for those who use a bow as a secondary weapon as it comes with a bonus 100 fire damage which scales up slightly with more magic, making it great if you want to keep dexterity just low enough to meet the weapon requirements. That fire damage causes the enemy to be momentarily stunned which makes it great vs. crystal geckos.

I also find it much easier to construct than the sticky bow as you just need a short bow (which can be bought from bilge in 4-1) shards and large shards of hardstone (which can be collected or bought from the filthy man in 2-1 / 2-2), one chunk of hardstone (which you should find in the course of playing Stonefang Mine), the Armor Spider's demon soul (to enchant the Short bow +7), and Flamelurker's demon soul given to blacksmith Ed.

Constructing a Sticky uses materials which only come from one crystal gecko (so if you mess up any of its iterations you are pretty SOL) or killing a certain enemy type over and over to farm for shards/chunks of spiderstone.

You were thinking of Ostrava at first.

@guardian_owl - The Sticky +5 only took me like 30 minutes to farm with PBWT. A 50 dex berserked archer with the Stick +5, morion blade and clever rats ring is scary.

I agree, sticky +5 can be a pain to make, but the real problem is that it only becomes the best bow with quite high dexterity. If you were focusing on other stats (I was playing as a mage so didn't do much with dexterity, just the min for a few weapons), then the Lava Bow really is a very good option. And it's especially great in world 5 agaist leechmonger and even the normal enemies.

Chunks are rarer than shards, and you'll need them for the higher upgrades so just hold onto them.

The red skeletons (aka black phantoms) are there because the world tendency has shifted towards black. It if shifts towards white they will be gone. Although black WT makes it harder, you also get better item drops and more souls for killing enemies. Just returning to the NEXUS while logged in will likely make the WT shift towards white if you want it to.

yes, logged into psn. Your world tendency averages out with the global world tendency of eneryone else when you're logged in to psn, and that tends to be strongly white (though not pure white).

SHOOT

i just played fucking 7 hrs of stupid 4-1 with the new red skeletons (black phantoms) and i'm still getting destroyed now that they have been added to the level. i'm coming close to throwing the fucking game away.

do you all have any tricks to beating the red skeletons?

should i leave the stage and go somewhere else and level up? get new armor? i'm a level 23 royal using a +1 cresent falcion and a +2 kite shield. and black armor, flute helmet. and i'm getting absolutely rocked by the stupid black phantoms

its really destroying my confidence and i doubt i can change the world tendency back because i dont have PSN so i dont log online.

Btw, am i even at PWBT because i get the red skeletons but i dont get Sasuki at teh beginning like in this movie.

http://www.atlus.com...ex.php/Tendency
You are probably around 50% black right now, that is when black phantom enemies start to appear. If you want to shift out of black, go to the Nexus, close the game, log into PSN, and restart the game. It will average your world tendency with the server's world tendency. Since the server is usually 1 level below pure white, it will shift your game probably 50% into white. Then you can can close the game, log out of PSN, then open the game back up and you will still be in 50% white tendency while playing offline.

If you want to stand and fight, silver skeletons are particularly weak against fire and blunt weapons (maces, morning stars). So if you have any spare dragon weapons you have picked up that would be handy. If you've got just a plain mace or plain, non-magically enhanced weapon (not moon or crescent) you can coat it with turpentine you have likely picked up along the way to inflict 80 extra fire damage for 60 seconds. Can chuck spare firebombs for extra damage.

Any fire spells you have accumulated would also do a decent amount of damage and stun them.

Gold skeletons are weak against magic so soul arrow or soul ray will do quite a bit of damage to them.

If you have accumulated any soul remains, they are like catnip for demons and will distract most non-boss enemies for 10 seconds, allowing you time to sneak up behind them and backstab them for massive damage.

Practice parrying and riposting on that first silver skeleton. Block as it rolls into you, then when it goes for a slash release L1 and tap L2 to parry the blow out of the way then immediately press R1 to riposte, which stabs the enemy for more damage. Unless he is building up for a 2-handed overhead smash, then roll out of the way instead.

If worse comes to worse you can just enter and exit the first section of 4-1 several times to build up your soul level some before journeying deeper into 4-1.

Another thing you can do is enter and exit the first section of 4-1, killing that first silver skeleton to build up extra souls. Then return to 2-1 and buys shards of hardstone from the filthy man to upgrade your kite shield as much as you can (up to +6). There is a limitless supply of shards and large shards of hardstone (large shards can be purchased from the filthy man in 2-2), only chunks and pure hardstone are rare, and should be saved to upgrade your primary shield. The higher the level of your shield, the less stamina is depleted from each strike on your blocking shield.

If you keep dying on the way to the boss / at the boss you can use this shortcut to bypass a lot of the level.

Can't break bigger chunks down into shards.

Once you find and free Graverobber Blige in 4-1
Spoiler
he will appear again at the start of 4-2 where he sells a limitless supply of shards of darkmoonstone.

Reapers in 4-2 can drop shards and chunks of darkmoonstone.

The only way to get pure darkmoonstone is as a drop from a crystal gecko in 4-2 or 4-3 (not guaranteed to drop). Geckos in 4-2 and 4-3 will almost always drop a few chunks of darkmoonstone.

btw, do you recommend just upgrading the kite shield up as much as possible or should i use the adjudicator shield and try to upgrade that instead for 4-1

Adjudicator's shield is a unique item, one of several, which can only be upgraded by colorless demon souls. These are the souls of primeval demons which only appear in pure black world tendency, once per world, and also can be collected in a few other places; a maximum of 10 per playthrough. Since it has low guard break reduction, and only fair protection its primary benefit is as an accessory on your off-hand while two-handing a weapon to regenerate health.

If you plan to stick with using a shield, you might consider switching from a shield which can parry to a heavier shield which can't. Shields that can't parry offer greater guard break reduction (less stamina loss per blocked blow) and often offer greater resistance to fire damage. A kite shield offers a maximum guard break reduction of 75% at +10 with weight of 3.5. The tower shield offers the highest possible guard break reduction at +10 (85%) but it is prohibitively heavy on most builds.

The next highest is a tie between the Steel shield and the Purple flame shield (82%). The steel shield has the same resistances as your kite shield (when blocking: 100% of physical damage goes to stamina, 30% of magic damage goes to stamina, 70% of fire damage goes to stamina) for 2.5 more weight than the kite shield. The Purple flame shield offers 20% more fire protection for 4.5 more weight than the kite shield. The Brushwood shield is the next highest at 80% max guard break reduction, but it offers an additional 10% fire resistance over the purple flame shield (for a total of 100%) for 9.5 more weight than the kite shield.

I am personally a fan of the purple flame shield because it offers the second highest guard break reduction and nearly complete protection from fire (90%) at a fair additional weight over shields which parry. It looks pretty darn cool to boot.

The steel shield is usually found in the course of playing 2-1, the purple flame shield is being guarded by the red dragon in 1-1 (which you can run in and grab if you are careful or come back for after you arrow the red dragon to death in 1-2), and the brushwood shield requires pure black or pure white tendency in 1-1 unless you kill Biorr for his shield in 1-3.

Shards of hardstone are easy to come by from the filthy man at the start of 2-1 so you can easily upgrade any non-unique shield to +3, so I would do that the bare minimum. The filthy man is a little harder to get to in 2-2 (who sells large shards of hardstone), but large shards will get your shield up to +6. It is +7 and on that requires chunks of hardstone which can't be bought from a vendor.

The only other upgrade type offered for shields is "Dark" using cloudstone which increases protection from magic at a cost to other protection stats, but no matter which shield you upgrade with it, it has worse stats than the unique Dark Silver Shield that you acquire at the end of the Valley of Defilement. The only reason to fully upgrade a shield with cloudstone is for the trophy. The only drawback to the Dark Silver shield is it decreases your magic attack damage.

again thank you for the sage advice.. it's kept me fighting rather than give up in defeat.

i've now reached the abjudicator now...but he keeps destroying me with one kill during melee... i've seen the melee videos where you hit his belly and then he falls on the ground and you just keep doing it back and forth. the main issue is often his body blocks him from getting behind him when moves to the corner. and then i get killed in 1 hit.

i've read online that you can shoot soul arrows while running around on the middle floor is that possible? because the last night i tried to do it his tongue broke the floor and i fell to the very bottom.
