I just picked up the new PSP-3000 bundle with Ratchet & Clank, but before I open it, I have a couple of questions:

1. Are the improvements to the 3000 model over the 2000 model really overshadowed by the interlacing talked about in this thread? FWIW, I plan to use the PSP mainly for games, not so much for movies.

2. Any game recommendations? I've already found a few games that I'm looking forward to playing (e.g., Lumines, Final Fantasy Tactics, Crisis Core, a few other RPGs), hence the PSP purchase, but since I'm so late to the PSP scene I'm sure I've overlooked some key titles. My only criteria are that I don't want straight PS2 ports (earlier gen ports are OK), and no sports. Anything else is fair game (no pun intended).

1. The interlacing is very hard to see in certain games and isn't a big deal. I've owned every generation of the PSP and the 3000 looks the best.

2. Disgaea (isn't really a straight PS2 port, they added a whole new Etna mode), Patapon, Jenne D'Arc (or however it's spelled. Great strategy game), tons more.

according to the fanboys over at sony forums. The interlacing is a HUGE issue which caused many of them to trade in their psps after day 1 to get their old psp back. lolz...

As for games, God of War, Ratchet and Clank size matters (the game in the bundle) and Agent Clank maybe. DarkStalkers, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Force Unleashed, Lego Batman... You said you don't want ports but that's mainly what you'll get with the psp, but it's all good. Burnout, FFVII CC, Socom 2, Siphon Filter 1/2 for psp are also great games as is Killzone and Persuit Force 2. Patapon and Loco Roco too.

My advice is to get yourself a GOW bundle from amazon or something and return your 3000.

Halo05 gave you great recommendations. If you're into Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea and Jeanne d'Arc are two of the best games in that genre regardless of system.

You said it yourself. The people making a huge deal about the interlacing are the same people who got their panties in a HUGE wad over Sony revising the PSP again. They were looking for something to bitch about and they found it. Truth be told, the PSP has always looked fantastic and it still does. The issue has always been on the software side of things and I think even that has more than worked itself out at this point.

Another thing to consider in the 2000 vs 3000 debate is homebrew. Nobody's been able to hack the 3000 yet, so if you want to run custom software it's not for you.

Other than that, it's a toss-up. I'm sure the interlacing problem is being exaggerated, but so is the ghosting. If you don't care about homebrew, the 3000 is a better system.

I think with any problem that any gaming hardware might have people tend to be overly vocal about it.

I have a PSP 3000 and this interlacing issue seems like it's no where near as bad as some people make it out to be. Maybe I'm not that picking but when I'm playing a game on it I don't notice anything bad about the screen.

And as for games, I only have two. Ratchet and Clank Size Matters (fun, except for those sluggish and frustrating hover races), and Patapon. Currently playing Patapon since those hover races bring the game to a screaming halt (for me at least) in Ratchet and Clank.

For a game where you basically hit the face buttons in sync with a flashing screen border it's a lot of fun.

believe me, nobody wants to buy a 3000 more than I do, but unless I get to try it in person, I'm not buying it and nobody seems to have any up for display which is a joke. BB still has the psp1000's setup, c'mon seriously doesnt' sony care about it's presentation at those stores?

also I haven't seen teh GOW bundle at any store for like 6 months. Best buy had a sale on the 2000 madden last week for $179 but it wasn't advertised I don't think.

I like to play my handhelds outside. Is the new screen on the PSP3000 really low-glare enough for me to do so? If so, then I really want to pick one up.

Just curious, but why would you say that? I was contemplating a PSP and a TRU near me still have a couple of the GOW bundles. I was thinking about picking it up until I read that it was the older model. I just wanted you reason to help me decide which bundle to get.

Also, I hear the 3000 lets you hook it up to your home TV and play games on it. Does the 2000?

yes, the 2000 has tv-out, the original psp does not
if it's not ghosting or interlacing horror stories, it's dead or stuck pixel horror stories.
there is a giant thread on the ps board, I think the problem is overblown, but everyone is sensitive to different things

also, jeanne d'arc is great, and you said no ps2 ports, so castlevania x is solid, crush/exit are good puzzlers, dead head fred is decent and cheap, valkyrie profile lenneth

I just recieved my 3000 in the mail today and yes the interlacing is noticeable, especially in the XMB when you change from one icon to another but it's not as bad as it has been talked about and the response time is very nice. Are you only into RPGs? I would also reccommend Disgaea as Halo05 has reccommended also God of War is a must own game for the PSP. Portable OPs is really great too.

I'm in the same situation, except I already have bought PSP games (FFT, Castlevania, Jeanne, Legend of Heroes) but don't have a system yet. I'm probably just gonna go for the GoW PSP. It's too bad they don't actually give you the case and stuff with the game and movie though. How many people actually use the mic for the PSP though when they're gaming?
If it wasn't nighttime here I'd check for you. I'll try and remember on Friday.
It keeps being cloudy and stuff here. Or I forget about this until it is night time. For the most part, from what I can tell, you'd still run into trouble playing the PSP in bright, bright sunlight. On overcast days you'd be fine.

If you can find Ace Combat X on top of any of the other games you're looking for I'd get that. It's a helluva lot of fun for a portable game. It's really deep and there are a ton of unlockables. The controls are very well done as well.

The interlacing issues seem to vary from game to game. So you might not even notice them. As for games you definitely need God of War. I also recommend Street Fighter Alpha 3, Patapon, Loco Rocco, Ratchet and Clank, Star Wars TFU, Daxter.

It's hard to recommend SF Alpha 3 because there's only 4 face buttons. Don't get me wrong. It's a great version of the game and the graphics are amazing but I just couldn't get into using the triggers for HP and HK.

Games like Tekken, Guilty Gear, and KOF are better suited to the PSP. They only use the four buttons. Well, Guilty Gear uses the others but you can always put Dust on of the triggers.
