01/05/09: First update of the year is only half good. How? We got 2 games. 1 VC game that happens to be Kirby's Dreamland 3 (SNES) and..this WiiWare game called Sandy Beach (500 Points). Let's hope that we actually get games worth owning this year! :bouncy:

I hope SOMEONE puts out Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
I never played Majora's Mask, so, :whistle2:k I wouldn't mind trying that out.

I want Yoshi's Island and some Super Scope 6 games :lol: But that would require some work, and why should they do that?!?

I do think Earthbound will come out this year. I mean, when it comes down to "REALLY BIG GAMES" how many are left? Ya know, games that CAN come out. I doubt we will see any of the Final Fantasies :(
 
I certainly think a 16-bit FFIV is a possibility later in the year now that the remake is out. Chrono Trigger probably not until next year when the DS game is out of print.

Given the shelf life most Square titles have, I'm with boo - I wouldn't count on seeing Final Fantasy appear, ever.

Why? The vast majority of the WiiWare titles are lousy, if not, awful. I think we can all agree that we can count the good ones on 2 hands..and people with added fingers don't count. :shame:

That's nine right there, and that's only the obvious ones. Throw in, say, the ArtStyle games or Defend Your Castle (or count Strongbad as more than one game), and you'll need a third hand.

I do agree that there's a lot of generic, non-interesting crap on WiiWare...but it isn't quite as bad as you said. :)

My 7 year old likes Pokemon Ranch and we all like Bomberman Blast. So far we are 2 for 2, though I'm sure many would disagree about the former, it works for by kid, so I call it a win.

This is what I'm talking about. Crank 'em out, because I can weed through the crap to get to the good stuff like GW pointed out here.

VC games are awesome, no doubt...but I'm finding myself drawn to WW games much more.
 
Didn't someone mention that the reason there were so few N64 games is that because the majority of the good ones required the expansion pak, and there was something wrong that made the Wii unable to play said games? I now I heard it here from someone, but dammit all if I can't remember who said it. If indeed that is true, then that means we probably won't be seeing Majora's Mask anytime soon, which makes me sad, since that's right up there with my favorite Zelda games.

IIRC Strell made a comment that makes sense. Something like since Nintendo hates work, and since there were issues with The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask on Zelda: Collector's Edition, (GameCube) Nintendo might not even try to improve their emulator. (An emulator is what allows one to play games for one system, like N64 or SNES, on another, like Wii or PC for those who don't know) Nintendo still doesn't have a fix for the controller pak emulation.

Unless I'm missing something, Controller Pak emulation is really only a problem for Mario 64 ghosts. The Expansion Pak is sort of the same - it's required for Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask, but those are the ONLY two games where it'd be needed.

Perfect Dark needs it for single player, but if we see that IP surface again it'll be on the Xbox; Starcraft needed it as well, but is anyone really expecting to see that port resurface?

Beyond those four examples, things don't get much better. Look at the list of games that used it - the only other first party title I see on that list is Pokémon Stadium 2, which I'm not sure they'd even want to release in the first place.

Nintendo might just decide it's not worth the effort to get the Expansion Pak games emulated correctly.
 
It's kinda a bummer that most of the games I really want on the VC are locked up in rights issues or are from companies that no longer work with (or may not want to work with) Nintendo. Several RARE games are on this list of course.

Just bet Startropics II, still a fantastic game although I still give the edge to the first one. I must admit they load you up with fucking healing potions in this game, I never realized it until I could of had like 6 or 8 healing potions in the next to the last level going into the boss, if I didn't lose a life, lol.

Anyway my hopes for this year are...
Earthbound
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Star Fox (SNES)
Castlevania (I don't know if it is Rondo of Blood or Dracula X, whichever one is better).

Good Wiiware games that are interesting. This year almost all of the WiiWare was meh to me, for the exception of Strong Bad.

On the Nintendo channel where they have the DS demos, the ones that aren't permanent usually have an expiration date of that following Sunday. The games have an expiration date of 1/11 ..(Which is NEXT Sunday)

But who knows! Maybe we'll be surprised and get GOOD GAMES!!!? LOLLOL :rofl: :roll: :cry:
 
Boo , Lists only lead to disappointment if your actually realistically expecting to get them.;) Me , I'll be ecstatic to get them if they show up , but I won't die if they don't.
 
Exactly. I have more realistic expectations that will probably be met and I'll remain pretty much neutral about the VC.

The lack of RPGs is what gets to me more than anything else. Not because I totally love RPGs but because the 8 and 16 bit RPGs of the world are losing their batteries and I can't realistically expect to play through something like Ogre Battle on the original cartridge. On the other hand, it doesn't really matter if your cartridge version of, I dunno, Super Ghouls N' Ghosts is forty years old, if it was kept relatively clean and protected, it'll still work.
 
What are the chances that Chrono Trigger will appear on VC? Yes i know its on NDS but 40 bucks is alot for a game were you need like 12 saves and not 3....
 
Why would you need 12 saves for? The 12 different endings? Once you get the new game+ , blowing through the game to see any of the different endings takes no time at all.

Besides , what difference would that make to the SNES version? It only had 3 saves too.
 
Whoa! Star Tropics 2? Yes please! I've got to grab that soon.

The only game I really want to see on the VC is Donkey Kong 64.

I have the same gut reaction as lilboo to WiiWare, but after looking at your list (which I would tend to agree with and add Wild West Guns to) the ratio is actually pretty good for quality. It looks like there are approximately 60 games out and having almost 25% (if you count each Strong Bad game separately) of the games be "good" games is unheard of on any platform. It's just colored by what Strell and I talked about in the last thread that the bad WiiWare games are downright horrible.

Well, I just hope for any all N64 games to hit the system along with any RPGs. Oh, and more TG-16/CD crap, I can never get enough of the system.
 
If there's going to be any more TG-16 games, it has to be from someone that's not Hudson. They've said they're pretty much done.
 
I keep hearing rumors (mainly coming from that VC reviews site) that Hudson is going to reduce, if not drop, support for the VC to focus on Wiiware.

I haven't heard it from anyone reputable though but I would be pissed. Sapphire, Ys III, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Cotton, Dragon Slayer, and a couple of others need to show up before they focus on shit like "Derby Racing 2009".
