Do they charge a fee if you trade in a DS Lite with a cracked hinge, in particular with the DSi trade deal? I was thinking about trading in mine and remembered that my son's has a cracked hinge, but works perfectly. Also, what if there are stickers on the outer case? He put various stickers on it. Meaning I'd trade his instead of mine and then give him mine.

I'd go with the cracked hinge one. I traded mine in about a month ago with a cracked hinge. The clerk did not acknowledge it or dock me anything.

I have no idea. Both of them are easily moddable (only softmods have an issue on slims and that's only on SCPH-9XXX Slim PS2s.

4/1 Base TIV

X360:
Dead Space - $14 (down from $17)
Resident Evil 5 - $30 (no change)
Jericho - $5 (n/c)
NBA Street Homecourt - $4 (n/c)

if only they would sell it for 30ish since the TIV is so low. I wanna rebuy it mostly for collection purposes as I already beat it, and wont be paying more than 30. that TIV is rediculous considering the selling price.

Huh? They sell Dead Space for $45 used. What kind of TIV do you want them to give for it? $35? They are a business, not a charity. Yeah, you can obviously get more selling it yourself, but you're getting two things from any store that accepts trade-ins: convenience and immediate gratification. You're paying for those.

No I would expect them to give a fair TIV though.

How does 45 justify a 14 TIV?

You can do that? xD
I guess the fat is sorta more of a value though, considering none of the ps2 games have online service anymore, so the ethernet port is pointless =/

when they drop the TIV by $3 or more that usualy means there getting ready to drop the price of the game... it makes sense for them to drop the TIV first and then a week or two later drop the price they are selling it for.

It's called turning a profit. Again, they are a business. They aren't a charity. They aren't looking to help us out. They're looking to take something we don't want and make money off of it. Like I said, if someone wants more, they should sell it themselves. But they aren't going to get the convenience or instant gratification of a trade-in. And just for reference, Amazon gives $17.50 for the 360 version and $15.50 for the PS3 version, so it's not like this big injustice that GameStop gives $14.

You also have to realize that GameStop...again...thinking as a business will look at the trade-in and sale in the worst possible way. So, if everything went against them, someone would trade this in with an EDGE card and during a promo. So, now they are giving out about $20. Then, someone comes in and buys it with EDGE and a coupon. Now, the sale is looking more like $35. Is it likely that all of that will happen? Nope, not at all. But that isn't GameStop's problem. They aren't going to take the risk of "hopefully we will make a great profit of this." They leave nothing to chance. And that's why they are as successful as they are. They are cuthroat, and they have the used games business by the balls.

I've little interest in defending Gamestop but in this case I don't see the problem. They are giving you over 30% of what they are going to try to sell the game for which is actually pretty decent relative to other retailers. I worked retail a few years ago (we bought books, games, dvd's etc) and a percentage of 30% or over was supposed to be reserved only for very desirable merchandise that we thought was guaranteed to sell.

This is also my experience as a consumer/seller: you almost never get more than 30-40% (and generally you get less) of what the company is going to sell your item for. Of course here you are only getting credit versus actual cash.

So maybe there are better ways of selling things (Ebay or whatever else) but as far as retail stores, GameStop's TIV's are pretty standard. I only really trade stuff in there when there is a promotion to take advantage of (like trading in 6 to get 40% extra). And then I only use it when there is a different deal to make it worth my while like B2G1 free.

Anyone know if I'd get any greif for trading in both a PS3 & a 360 copy of GTA IV tomorrow?

I went out looking for the 360 version at BBV to flip, but found the PS3 version first. And so thinking it'd have as good a TIV, I bought it. But then I found the one I was looking for and just couldn't resist the $15>$21 conversion of credit from BBV to GS. Thanks to anyone who has input.

i think you will be fine bringing in 2 different versions of the same game, make sure they are opened(one eb threatened to call the cops on me cause i tried to say i'll take it outside and open it and bring it back in)

i tried to trade in a couple of halo 3 games(1 from legendary edition and 1 normal edition, yes i bought the legendary for the helmet only) the guy said if I bring in 2 of the same games they cannot take ANY of my games, thats their policy, they did tell me they couldnt stop me from going to another store that same day to trade in my stuff as long as I dont bring in both halos at the same time, you could always leave 1 in the car and ask them to make sure before you bring the other in
