Speaking of "twat" you need to see Stephen Colbert saying twat live on The View.
I am famous for getting CheapyD to watch Swollen Tip while he was broadcasting live.

I don't trust the cleanliness of those places though how do you know the beds aren't sesspools?

The whole RE5 DLC thing is BS when the multiplayer modes are detailed in the strategy guide as being a part of the game with no mention that they would be DLC.

 @ Cheapy not having a clue if Resistance even had an online mode.

for the record, that's Cheapy who complained about the controls, I have always said that I kinda like 'em. My complaints were that the demo seemed too actiony when compared with RE4. That I was happily wrong about. So maybe a half foot in mouth

You also couldn't defend your stance on why the controls are the best ones for the RE5.

There are a lot of succesful MMO's out there, but whether you define beating WoW as being successfu or notl is probably going to widen or shrink your view on the subject.

Wombat looks nothing like Kevin Smith from the pics he's posted.

Good show.

I am a CAG Newbie and this is my first post.

My 2 cents on Capcom’s DLC strategy and what I would do as a CAG. I am involve in managing software projects, development budget is planned ahead and readjusted during the project cycle if needed. If development cost becomes an issue,, implementation of some function will be put on hold, and address in the next update, where development budget needs to be estimated again.

What if these DLCs are planned new features but completed ahead of schedule? Do you withhold them for an extended period of time and then release it as DLC? Or do you put them all on the disc and raise the MSRP for the original game, with features that might only interest an isolated community?

I am with you guys on how Capcom handled their DLCs and I am not buying any of it. Although not 100% sure, but it's pretty obvious that these DLCs are planned to be part of the original game.

As a gamer, I just want to play games, so boycott is not going to do me any good. As a consumer though, we need to think if the game + DLC is worth it. Do you think RE5 with the new mode is worth $65? If not, wait for the game to become cheap, then buy the DLC. With 4 million copies in circulation worldwide, I am sure there will be some deals on CAG soon.

Hello Cheapy D and Wombat,

I've been listening to the podcast since #1 but I've never talked in the show notes before. The reason I'm posting is not for praise. I'm sorry. But I'll to do a little trade off. I'll post a positive itunes review afterward.

I don't like negative shows. I listen to podcast for enjoyment. I stopped listening to many (1up, joystiq) because all they do is complain. I'm one of the nerds who listens to each show at least twice, but this weeks is close to unlistenable. Cheapy, I understand the $5 DLC is a ripoff. No one should disagree with you there (except Capcom), great move on. Please don't spent an hour and ten minutes talking about it. And then bring it back up during other unrelated segments. Wombat you need to moves things moving along and ask him to drop it when it gets excessive. He does that for you at the right time of your rants and it makes a better show.

Also I would like to call Wombat out as a flip-flipper. The last 2 shows he's taken a big fat shit on R5. Weeks before the game come out. You did the "I WANT TO WALK AND SHOOT!" rant twice. I been looking forward to your review because I knew you would put your foot in your mouth. But Cheapy D interrupted twice with his "fuck Capcom" speech, ruining the moment. As a day one CAGcast fan, you should redo that moment for me Wombat ;).

Hey,a fellow Missourian...Oh wait, apparently only 1 of us should have a computer.Honestly Wombat give me a break with that remark.St.Louis has something around 3 million people and Kansas City,Missouri is up there as well.I know it just an off handed remark, but it still came off as you being pretentious.

Awesome Show But I Could Come Up With A Better Title Like
" Get Your Twits Out"

Ya I didn't like the segment title either I think something along the lines of "show me your twits/twitties" would sound better.

Forgive me if I have a little nuance to my worldview, and am not a black/white ideologue who can't grasp complexity.

This is perhaps the most ironic thing I have ever seen on CAG.

Haven't listened yet, but I love how on a previous show, Cheapy and Wombat say they'll wait to pick up a big release a few weeks later or until a price drop. Then in the episode preview of the following week, it'll have their impressions of last weeks' big release.

Just an observation, I'm pretty much the same way when it comes to a big release game that I really want to play once I hear how awesome it is

In regards to the $5 DLC and game pricing in general:
The problem with DLC is that it's a global thing. While $5 on the East Coast in the US is a fair chunk of money, it's not so much on the West Coast. The cost of living differences are so extreme around the country that it's ridiculous. I feel like the people making the prices for games aren't in touch with this sort of thing and just slap an arbitrary price on everything. Most games turn out to be $60 at launch and unless it's a crappy game, people buy it regardless of price.

In my opinion, the general gaming population is pretty stupid. Most people seem to play games to escape the realities of work and the fact that life isn't all candy and rainbows. It's the same thing with politics, they can't see instant gratification when they vote so they don't. If enough people pay $5 for content then the company gets emboldened and they push the envelope on how much they can charge. Because there are so many people out there who'll pay stupid prices that aren't worth the value, I have to conclude that people are just generally ignorant and unable to gauge the value of what they're because they don't care if they're getting a good deal they just want to immerse themselves in their game.

Another example of people buying stupid crap that isn't worth it is collector's editions. I preordered resident evil 5 collector's edition and changed to the retail version after seeing what crap Capcom tried to fob off on us as "collectable". Is it me does it look like the action figure was made by someone who's never seen the game? Just look at how cool the japanese CE was:

http://kotaku.com/50...etter-than-ours

I want to know why Capcom doesn't wise up and just release the same collector's editions for Japan and America.

I'm tired of American collector's editions that aren't worth the price. Fable 2 CE was a giant shaft-fest, Street Fighter 4 CE was meh (I feel like SF4 was generally a failure) and I think the only CE that I've bought recently that I was happy with was Fallout 3.

Sometimes the best items you get with a game are preorder freebies. While Afro Samurai wasn't exactly worth 60 bucks, the cool figure I got with it was top quality.

What it all boils down to is this: Stupid people are paying stupid prices. Those of us who know this ridiculous crap is going on can either do nothing and wait for the price to drop or we can try to gang up and slap some sense into these greedy corporate tools who don't know their thumbstick from their joystick.

Due to PS3 console sales being MUCH lower than expected (roughly half of initial projections) and development costs being higher than expected the $60 price isn't even covering the increased costs. Consumers aren't getting screwed right now (at least not next gen consumers).

Then don't make the game for the system with the higher development cost and lower return. See Valve's platform decision with Left 4 Dead.

Hey Cheapy & Wombat,

I thought I'd weigh in on the RE5 controversy:

I think the exclusion of this content from the game has little to do with Capcom's money-grubbing schemes and more to do with them attempting to control review scores. There may have been a fear that if the multiplayer modes were viewed negatively by the press, it would mean lower scores for the game overall. "Tacked-on" multiplayer modes seem to be a negative bullet point in a lot of reviews these days, so I think the decision to withhold the new multiplayer modes was a smart move from Capcom's Point of view.

That being said, charging for them, especially when the $60 hole in my wallet is still warm, is not necessarily a good idea either. If they had held onto the multiplayer modes and released them later to rejuvenate the audience, then I guess people would be okay with it. In fact, I think planning DLC ahead of time to add to a game's longevity is a smart maneuver, but releasing it right after launch and asking for more money seems to be a sore spot with gamers.

That was a little long-in-the-tooth, but to summarize I think that Capcom removing multiplayer and offering it separately was a smart move, but they should have either offered it for free or kept it up their sleeve for at least a few months.

Interesting take, though it would make more sense if the multiplayer was made available for free as a separate DLC from the retail sku.

I think Sony deserves to suffer for the PS3. If they hadn't tried to turn a gaming console into a force feeding of the bluray media it wouldn't carry such a huge pricetag. Not only that bug instead of taking the route Microsoft had where they attempted to make amends for horrible hardware engineering, they made console owners pay $150 to repair faulty hardware. I'm hoping that PS3 is enough of a failure that if they make a next generation console, it won't be plagued by the same sort of engineering crap that this generation has been. Do it right the first time, don't rush it out and screw over people who bought your products.

I've listened to the show, still great if you ask me!

I really enjoy Cheapy's and Wombat's remarks about their personal lives, to me that's one of the main reasons I enjoy the show. I also agree with their opinion that releasing a versus mode for $ 5,00 is pretty fishy, but hey... it's like Adam Smith or Karl Marx or somebody else said said something like "the value of something in capitalism is what someone is willing to pay for it". I don't like it, but if I'm Capcom, I do this, and enough people buy it, I'm pretty damn sure to keep doing it. Who cares if a couple of people complain?

To me, the way companies treat DLC will be just like the way Nintendo treats their "hardcore gamers": they'll go to where the money is at, and maybe throw a bone or two in their way.

EDIT: Almost forgot, I'm gonna tweet Jimmy Fallon (or whatever his name is, I don't even live in a place where I can know this guy) today!

So Cheapy banged his head on the hotel dildo? Regarding the Indiana Jones discussion, Wombat almost got it right about the relationship with religion and the movies but misses the fact that the Mayans believed their gods were aliens, just as the Egyptians, Summerians and other ancient cultures. Except those alien gods didn't look like the hollywood grey alien and more like a bearded white guy ex Quetzalcoat (Mayan god). The fourth movie is much in line with the others regarding a religious theme but was heavily influenced by the upcoming Mayan Dec 21, 2012 prophecy. You see the Mayans understood how the universe worked when the rest of the world thought the planet was flat. They had advanced knowledge of the solar system and of lunar and solar eclipses. They knew about the Precession of the Equinoxes which science just recently confirmed. And they also predicted the 30,000 yr alignment coming up with the earth, sun, and galactic plane. So the Crystal Skulls is a religious movie, and the fact is that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable form magic" -Arthur C Clarke, especially to any "primitive" society. Btw You should Youtube Zecharia Sitchin and his research on Sumeria.

It felt like an hour and 10 mins. You also kept bringing it back up. Like during Wombat's R5 review, which was a positive review. But the listeners couldn't tell because of the "fuck Capcom" comments you were making. Also this is the internet, a place known for over exaggerating ;).

People can defend Capcom all they want......the point here is that angering even 50% of your consumer base, because of how you put out your DLC is not good business.

Why would I buy a game for $60+ and then want to spend more money to "unlock" features or buy an add-on that should have been included in the game?

If Capcom keeps this up, they will alienate people until it hurts their sales.

Re: RE5 dlc

I don't have too much of a problem with the dlc itself. I don't think any of my friends will buy it, so I won't either. Much like Wombat, I feel the game is worth $60 as is.

I am more concerned with the slippery slope we are on. This is the first example I can think of where a common online mode is being withheld so it can be charged for later. This is not the same as if a game with a very robust online feature set offered a new mode- this is a game with almost no multiplayer offering it for a price.

This specific piece of DLC is the most outrageous example of "what will they pay for?" since horse armor and EA's dlc cheat codes. If Capcom makes good money off of this, expect Bionic Commando, Lost Planet 2 and SF4 C.E. to follow similar models, and maybe test the waters further.

One final thought. There was a time when you bought a game console and it came with TWO CONTROLLERS (!), all the cables you needed to play and AT LEAST ONE GOOD GAME. I'm not going to try to convince anyone out there that we should go back to playing 2600 Space Invaders, but when you think about how all of those things are EXTRA now it kind of makes one wonder what else we will have to pay for in the future.

Waaaay off topic here, but I am just a little confused how Wombat references the fact that he is Jewish in pretty much every show, then kinda agrees with Cheapy that its a silly idea about a big magic man living in the sky during the Indiana Jones bit, then towards the end of the show says that he loves to eat bacon on his burgers?
