Thanks for the tips, and just wondering, how is this thing going to be for gaming? Am I going to be able to max out most things or is it somewhere in the middle?

I wouldn't be totally against shelling out a little more money for a better CPU or Graphics card if it will give me a good performance upgrade.

Your CPU is fine for gaming. If you can shall out another $50 for the video card, I would go with the ATI 5770 card which is in the $150 range and will provide you with a lot more leg room for gaming performance. That's probably one component I would relax the budget on.

I'm mainly looking to get this thing to run WoW on ultra, if it can do what I'll be happy. I suppose I would like it to run CoD as well, but WoW is my real goal.

This look better? http://www.newegg.co...1-363-_-Product

Yup that should work, you'll be able to run WOW on highest settings.

That's the new power supply I picked, does that look sufficient/better?

Also, would my computer benefit at all if I were to add 2x 1gb stick on top of the 2x 2gb sticks of RAM?

And one last thing, I have a upgrade copy of Win 7, how would I go about installing that on my new rig? If it helps at all I also have an upgrade copy of Vista.

You don't want to skimp on the PSU. That PSU gives me no confidence in it whatsoever. Something like........ http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139003

It is above your price range, but again, no skimping.

So 6 gigs of RAM total? Maybe marginally, depending on how you use your computer. For every day usage and gaming, you don't need more than 4 gigs.

Thanks for the insight, I will definitely grab that PSU, that's one part of the computer I know very very little about. And I think I'm doing ok on price, I'm at just over 500 right now, which is right on budget, plus, the PSU you linked is only marginally more than my current selection.

Also wondering, am I going to need to buy extra case fans at all? I was reading a few reviews of different things on Newegg and people are talking about having 6 or so fans, and I wasn't planning on more than what was included with my items.

(I can't answer your question about the Windows upgrade, I just don't know)

Of course, you can always shop around more, get more opinions about PSUs. Does it have the wattage you want/need, AMP, modular or not, price. That type of stuff. The one I linked is a very good PSU at that price for your medium computer builds and should work for your current proposed build, but you should always make that decision for yourself.

Case fans... depends on the case, depending on how you want to use your computer. If you're going to be overclocking, using a lot of programs that is processor heavy, GFX heavy, then you do want good cooling. Looking at the case you linked http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811154095 it doesn't seem case fan friendly. The sides may or may not allow fans to be attached, and the rear fan is only 90 mm...

at 30 dollars, you might want to look at http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811119068 slightly bigger than the previous

Front fan, 120 mm rear fan, optional side fan. which should be more than enough for your build. General rule of thumb: front fan, large back fan should be fine.

Awesome, thanks a ton! I'll definitely snag the case you linked, when I was picking out a case I just picked what looked decent and was cheap lol. And I think I'll stick with the PSU you linked, looks like it should be more than plenty for what I need, I don't overclock, nor do I game anything more than WoW really, so it should do the trick for now.

Depends on your brand and model of the computer. It'll be nice if you can open it up and take a picture of the inside of the computer for us, then we can point you to exactly what you need.

How much of a difference is there between the $400 builds and $500 builds. Also, is there a huge difference between the Intel and AMD builds or are they pretty comparable?

Depends on what you're using that extra $100 for, if you use it on a graphics card, then a lot, or if you use it on a case, then not much. Intel and AMD are pretty similar, IMO anyways, AMD is just WAY cheaper.

Just to clarify, when I refer to the $400 and $500 builds I am referring to the OP in this thread for the Gaming Builds. For me it is not a matter of what I will use that extra $100 on but saving that extra $100.

Am I getting more for my money with an AMD or is the AMD and Itel comparisons in the OP designed to be comparable builds.

I guess I haven't looked at the builds in the OP, last time they looked a bit outdated. If you are looking for budget, go AMD, that's what I did in my build, and i got a VERY nice computer for around $600.

After looking at those builds, those $400 builds aren't really anything special, if you are on extreme budget, the $500 AMD build is the one you're going to want, the intel builds are eh.

And don't get me wrong, I actually prefer Intel over AMD, I have a Intel processor in my laptop, but AMD is so much cheaper than Intel, so for a budget PC, AMD is easily the way to go.

That's what I did, should be in tomorrow. The only thing with my build is that it does NOT include Windows. As a student I got it for virtually free, so if you need a copy you'll have to add around another $100 for that. Windows really kills just about any budget PC, it's obnoxiously expensive.

That isn't too bad, but I would not buy a computer from BB, they load it with so much shit...

Honestly if you can find yourself a copy of windows, or wait a few weeks, just build your own, you're going to get a much nicer computer, completely free of all that preloaded crap. I bet you'd be much happier with something you put your blood sweat and tears into, plus, that computer seemed a bit overpriced, I have never had good luck with Gateway anyways.

The crap doesn't bother me though. I just delete it all. Some Gateways allow you to just reinstall ONLY the OS as well.

I would recommend this, buy that one from best buy if you need a computer NOW. If now, save your pennies for a few weeks and get something built to tailor your needs.

On a side note, that desktop had some pretty nice stats, 6 gigs ram? Nice! Necessary? Nope. Other than that and the fact it already has windows, it doesn't look too far off what you could do yourself for less than that.

Depends on your budget, and preference on manufacturer. I chose the ATI 5770, but that may be more than you want to spend, or need. Are you planning on using this for gaming or just general use? The other thing is that newegg PC only comes with a dual core, and if you want to game, I would recommend a tri core, or if you want to shell out a little more, a quad core.
