You know, I bet we could lock everyone into Government Approved Padded Cells, feed them only Government Approved Nutrition Rations, force them to exercise for the Government Required amount of time each day and only allow them Government Approved reading materials and I bet we could save more lives than this health care bill.

I guess for some, where "saving lives" is the singular goal, this plan would meet with their approval.

And has anyone here advocated for that type of program?

Are you racist? You don't like mixed breeding?

Meanwhile, if you don't take it under careful consideration and/or point how fucking insane it is. Then the we are just being mean for no reason.

Did I say one has?

Meanwhile, we get the usual suspects laying it on thick about how any idea is better than no idea, without any consideration as to how bad the idea might be or the "it saves lives!" line (which, of course, there is no proof it will do any such thing, but all you could do at this point is offer projections and estimates) - which is fine if your singular goal is saving lives, without regards to anything else ever.

So what would be the opposite equivalent of that proposal then?

Speaking of...

If a healthcare thread isn't about saving lives then what else should it be about?

Costs are a canard because Universal Systems are cheaper.

The con "Argument" is that we should spend more on a system that helps people less because of "lol communism" or principled stands based on principles they just invented 20 minutes ago..

Somalia.

This is why we need to come up with the happy medium between an every-man-for-himself setup that some fools seem to think all conservatives want and the government-controlled padded-room lifestyles proposed above.

What this is going to take, however, is some reasonable realization that, short of the government-controlled padded-rooms, there's going to be some risks involved. Some people's minds might be too simple to comprehend that. This is where you get the "Oh noes, you want to let people just die." lines of tripe that do nothing to help further the conversation.

If someone seriously purposed the padded rooms and, to any objections you raised, they stuck their fingers in their ears shouting "Oh noes, you want to let people just die.", you'd have a hard time taking them seriously as well.

Yeah, it's not like it didn't turn into a conservative hissy fit about tautologies or anything...

That's an awfully big word you've now repeated twice since Myke brought it up. Feels good?

Government can do health care cheaper and better than the market. They are so ideologically twisted they can't accept reality. Hence the mental gymnastics and refusal to even entertain an actual argument.

Your ideological ilk aren't proposing anything of any value and only bitch about MAH TAXES. Saying that we shouldn't throw any more money at the problem is equally useless when you chuckleheads aren't even considering a universal system considering the flak that PPACA, a conservative plan with parts from an actual conservative think tank, gets shouted down as fucking socialism and communism.

If we're going to continue with the system we have and expand coverage, it's going to require money. There's no other way to do it. And if you keep things the same or reduce coverage, then you expect people to just die. This is not an exaggeration, but the actual reality of it.

If someone seriously purposed the padded rooms and, to any objections you raised, they stuck their fingers in their ears shouting "Oh noes, you want to let people just die.", you'd have a hard time taking them seriously as well.

Purposed is different from proposed. Nice typo there buddy.

You have a serious problem with scale if you think padded rooms is the equivalent of MAH TAXES, but I would deride them just as heavily. Not to mention that fascism is a tool of the right.

It comes back to "I didn't get help, I pulled myself from nothing (usually a lie) and did it myself, nobody helped me!"

See, it's just bitterness pure and simple. They're bitter because they feel like they're getting a raw deal, that "their money" is going to help people when nobody helped them (also often a lie). Bitter people always have a "go Fuck yourself" attitude when it comes to helping others. I'm honestly sorry they're so bitter too, I'm sorry that they've (supposedly) had things so hard. It's too bad that no one was there to help them, or that they refused it, but that doesn't mean everyone else should have to suffer because of them.

As I stated in the beginning, the issue before is trying to use a word to call me stupid that you couldn't spell. Not a typo nazi by any means - you're just the same as the "Get a brain, Morans" guy. Cut from the same cloth.

I did. It's interesting to see how the system failed both groups in different ways, not that it should be news of course.

That toothless guy is actually a great example of why we need expanded coverage of heathcare. It's far cheaper to pay for cleanings every 3 months than extracting all his teeth, obvious gum surgery, crowns, and dentures, which would also improve quality of life. Hell, I bet his severe gum disease alone is giving him major health issues which add even more costs to his care. But hey, MAH TAXES amiright?

off topic: I've been meaning to bump the Maher thread, but I figured it'd be a little redundant considering the "traffic" we've been getting lately. I have a sneaking suspicion that Ed Helms is a libertarian though...LOLZ.

Fun times. I wonder what some of you folks think about the idea that the African slaves were stupid for rebelling from their white masters who provided them with so much.

Didn't they realize how great it was when everything was provided for them? </sarcasm>

You mean the implication that it's pretty crappy and condesending to act like you're offering the lowly, pathetic slobs such great things, but they're just too dang ignorant to recognize the awesomeness of the gifts you're trying to bestow upon them?

You compared your ideological brethren to African slaves that were kidnapped and shipped on vessels like sardines while comparing those that propose expanded coverages to slavers.

Sounds like you're projecting to me, but I'm probably just butthurt over your usual superior analogies that are so layered, you can climb to heaven on them.

Or I know, how about you spell it out for us. You obviously know that we're dumb, so you need to explain it with as much detail as possible.

Btw, it's condescending, not condesending. You're welcome.
