Request: Looking for a good beginner's credit card...

OK, I've never had a credit card before, nor have I ever financed anything. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good credit card I could apply for that is good for people with no credit (like me), hopefully with a reasonable rate. I applied for the Wal-Mart credit card and the Musician's Friend financing, and got rejected for a lack of credit history. Can anyone help?

Are you a student? Most places will auto-approve if your one. They want to get you young.

My first (and only) card is a capital one. No interest for a year and started at a $500 limit. Try them. But stop applying for a while if you get shot down again. It's bad on your credit history if you keep applying.

Try your local bank or credit union. Get set up with a savings and checking account, and they should also be able to offer you a credit card of some sort (Visa or MasterCard). And remember, the best credit card is the one you pay off every month.
