Silver or Black slim PS2- which should I get?

CENNY

CAGiversary!
Was in the market for a new PS2 slim, just wondering if anyone here knows of any reason to buy the silver over the black or vice versa- which one is more reliable, lasts longer, etc. Also, do they both have the same inputs/outputs and features, or is one better in some area that I should know about?

Thanks for any help.

Exactly the same, just buy the one that you think looks cooler.

I guess one consideration might be that most PS2 accessories are black, so you might have trouble finding matchy-matchy stuff for a silver console. Controllers do come in both colors.

I'm pretty sure that they're exactly the same. You should just get the color you like more. I think the silver is stylish, but the black is classic.

You should also consider that some accessories will look better with the black version. For example, all the multitaps I know of are black.

Iirc, and I'm pretty hazy on this, I think some of the newer slim models had issues playing some older PS2 games. Specifically blue bottom disc CD based games.

Not sure if this issue was fixed by Sony by now, but I remember reading about this when the 'new' Slim models first came out.

If considering aesthetics only, silver tends to show scratches more easily. Black is definitely a more 'rugged' color in terms of durability.

Apparently the blue discs were lighter than regular discs, so they would move around in the dvd tray and were difficult to read. Some people found that putting tape on top of the disc made it 'heavier' and solved any problem they had at playing them. Considering you actually place the disc on the slim ps2 spindle directly, I'm guessing that the older fat models would have had more of a problem with blue discs than the slim ones.
try to get one without the power brick. Not sure if you can get those in silver
i am curious as to the reason behind this. are there any known issues with the slim model that came with the brick?

I think all the slim models have some trouble playing certain PS1 games. There was also a certain model that came with a faulty power brick that they recalled (explosions, catching on fire, etc.).

I was lucky to get one of the first slim models that came with the power brick, since they later changed the USB drivers to allow only first party accessories to be used with the USB ports. The older models could use third party accessories (Gameshark, Codebreaker, etc.) so that you could backup your saves from memory card to a USB stick.
