Redbox has provided me with a few new watches recently:

Haywire- Terrible, terrible movie. All that talent in a movie and it's completely wasted. They literally withhold all plot until the last 10 minutes or so and while the reveal of what set off the whole chain of events is interesting, I was so fucking bored with watching generic action movie fight after generic action movie fight I found it difficult to care.

The Grey- Severely let down by this one. I had high hopes for it and was really looking forward to finally seeing it but I found myself incredibly bored about 30-45 minutes into it. Then the last scene rolls around
Spoiler
I really have no idea how it got ratings as high as it did.

There were some interesting moments but as a whole it felt like a very generic action/survival movie. It went through all of the traditional tropes and didn't bring anything particularly new to the table. One of the worst parts was
Spoiler
For me, I'd rather spend my time watch The Edge, which is a much more interesting, and believable, movie.

Chronicle-Not a particularly great movie. What I will give it though is that it was an interesting take on superhero/superpower movies. The sense of wonder that it portrayed as they were discovering their powers was actually the more interesting part of the movie. Beyond that it really wasn't particularly great. One of the glaring plot holes/inconsistencies I found in it was
Spoiler
. Sadly, of the 3 I've watched lately this is the only one I didn't completely hate.

Chronicle - fakest shit that ever faked

Thought the commercials were viral marketing, but the movie is actual "I carry a camera with us".

But the effects I thought were well done. Like it looked pretty good. It's just the entire movie being shake cam for pretty much no reason

I never really saw that as an inconsistency. Unlike
Spoiler
but I just assumed because of the nature of the fight they were unable to concentrate enough to bend the items. After all the intent with the first instance was very casual by comparison with the end of the movie.

Just saw Safe House. I didn't really see anything "coming a mile away" as most people suggested. It was rather uninteresting for a movie with two very popular actors. I did kinda have a hope it would become more than it was and that never happened.

SPOILER~~~~~~I absolutely loved the grey. But I am biased because I love neeson, survival, snow mountains and wolves. It was like porn to me. The ending gave me goosebumps because of how everything wrapped up in the last couple minutes. And then when the scene went black, it was just fantastic. Left me hanging and wanting so much more and it wasn't so much about survival or fighting wolves but about the quote that he kept repeating (regarding the last couple minutes). At the end, the movie just laid the smack down on you with all the answers to the questions it brought up in the beginning. Definitely not action packed but the pace is still decent and I was pretty immersed in the whole story. I heard a couple people pissed off in the theatre at the end but they were probably expecting a movie like Taken with wolves.

Anyone thinking a movie associated with a wrestler or fighter will be anywhere decent let alone have a plot other than the obvious ones will obviously be disappointed... But yah same reasons I checked it out. At this point though, it was so memorable I don't remember any of the movie and I think she was a brunette... ?

Prometheus - good. Lovely visual design. The vessel Prometheus was really cool. Liked the characters a lot in this movie. When they are first introduced I thought some of them would be utterly mundane (and some don't really get much screen time at all) but that wasn't the case. Some of the plot points didn't come off as big as I think the director thought. Won't spoil anything, all I'll say is that it happened a few times. Michael Fassbender is the man.

Prometheus

Far from perfect but I really appreciate the direction of the universe Scott has created here. Though bout half way in I feel like the movie is missing some pieces, maybe that will be added in a director's cut. I also didn't understand why the religious message was implied so often when the characters don't fit the faithful type.

Great watch, though.

The Silence of the Lambs- A terrifying movie, but couldn't get over Starling's accent in the movie. It sounds like she had something in her mouth the whole time.

Full Metal Jacket- A great movie, of course. D'Onofrio was scary and sad, the Drill Sergeant was hilarious, and of course Animal Mother is a badass.

I agree it was good film. I felt the role Ford was playing for most the movie was odd for him.

A Very Harold and Kumar X-Mas - It was like the other films this time set on X-mas eve. Dumb fun basically good for some laughs.
Some of the 3D did a good job at poking fun at 3D.

The Grey - It was good. Though could have been better. Neison had a good performance and the shots were beautiful. I was also questioning why these wolves continued hunting down these humans from such a distance. It's possible they were scouts of a different pack that communicated with the others near the plane crash site. I'm not sure I don't know enough about the living habits of wolves.

Men In Black 3 - Kind of the definition of an unnecessary sequel. Average the whole time. See if you need your Will Smith fix otherwise save your time. I saw it in 3D and it was mostly gimmicky as one would expect.

I felt exactly the opposite. While the plot was more of the same. The trailers made me think they were going to "poke fun at 3D", however when I saw the film it felt more like they were being sincere and thus it came off as worse than contrived.

The Wrong Man. It was great to see what New York City looked like sixty years ago, and I'm amazed that the 53rd Street stop looks more or less the same! In a time before a scientific and psychological approach to policing was applied, it was quite terrifying for not just Manny, but for the viewer. The defense lawyer could've easily discredited the women in the offices, since it was clear that they steamrolled the victim into pointing out the suspect.

I was disappointed with the happy epilogue, finding it unnecessary, but it must've been those damned producers.
