With all those hats, crates and keys costing real money, it seemed like the next logical step. Last time I played was the during the annual Halloween event with the boss with special item that would appear (forgot his name). I'm thinking now is a good time to try low-res mode TF2 http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=1149207

The gods have blessed the cheap asses of the world, indeed. I wonder how many anti-freeware/F2P people will be pissed about this.

Everyone's jumping on the freeware/F2P train. Hope the STEAM servers can take it.

Man, TFC was one of my most played mods from Quake 2 to HL 1. It's going to be fun to try this since I have so many friends that play it.

Hahaha, was wondering how long it was gonna take for you to post TF2 in here. Glad to see it wasn't long at all. Valve getting your Megazell seal of approval after Alien Swarm, TF2, and semi-officially supporting other free to play games?

Personally, I prefer playing the shorter games. I don't mind an long epic game here or there but too many tend to burn me out.

This list is quite full of games that can be ended in under 1 hour. In fact a lot of them need only 5 to 30 mins at most, especially in the SP section of the various genres. I have to find a script that will go through my list to find them all. Many I personally ended but over the time forget the exact name to just point out to ya. A great many of them have a mechanic in which you will die to fade in under 5 mins so the game is just that long. So here are some from the top of my head....

Owl Country

Peggle Extreme

Peggle - World Of Warcraft Edition

Epidemic

Super Vampire Ninja Zero

Broken Cave Robot

RunMan: Race Around The World

Seven Minutes

Attack Of The 50ft Robot

Light And Darkness

Merry Gear Solid: Secret Santa

Merry Gear Solid 2: Ghost Of Christmas Past

Project Future

Splinter Source

Spyman

Trilby's The Art Of Theft

1213 - 'Immunity'

1213 - Episode 1

1213 - Episode 2

1213 - Episode 3

Don't Look Back

rComplex

Resident Evil - Raccoon Madness

SURVIVOR: The Living Dead

The Scourge

15 Minutes

Air Pressure

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 1: In Search of the Skunk-Ape

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 2: The Lost Galleon of the Salton Sea

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 3: The Sorceress of Smailholm

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 4: Horror at Number 50

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 5: Land of the Rising Dead

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 6: Scourge of the Sea People

Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator - Case 7: The Cardinal Sins

Dead City

Fedora Spade: Case 1 - Prologue

Fedora Spade: Case 2 - The Red Ring

Fedora Spade: Case 3 - Death Wears a Fedora

Fedora Spade: Case 4 - The Last Job

Stench Mechanics

What Linus Brockman Sees When He Closes His Eyes.

The Devil's Tuning Fork

Which

I'm leaving shooters out but there are quite a few of those that are very short but very difficult.

Heh, doesn't do anything for me personally. I burned myself out on that game a long time ago. Playing low level characters can still be fun though, assuming they don't lock you out of everything interactive about the game.

I don't have high expectations without micro-transactions. But it seems to be the first step towards making it F2P. They could make it fully-F2P when they launch their next MMO, or at least subscription-free like Guild Wars.

http://www.pcgamer.c...-warcraft-free/

It would make about as much sense as them showing continued support for older games such as Warcraft 2 Battle.net edition, which they do, even though it probably isn't generating income to cover the expenses anymore.

Another F2P game is always welcomed. Whether it's good or bad is subjective (unless the game is malfunctioning and causing crashes and such). I played WOW years ago on a free trial and it was OK but I saw nothing there to keep me there. I'm more of a sci-fi guy, anyway. I'm sure the fantasy MMO players will enjoy exploring this new F2P format of WoW.

World of Warcraft, often abbreviated as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard. It is the fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard's previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001.

With 11.4 million subscribers as of March 2011, World of Warcraft is currently the world's most-subscribed MMORPG, and holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers.

MORE FREEWARE/F2P GAMES FROM VALVE!

Here’s something: since the release of Valve’s free Source-based co-op shooter Alien Swarm which took us all by surprise last year, hippies and socialists have been able to get their hands on a Source-based game without paying a thing, which in turn lets them play those lovely Source mods for free as well. Well, we’ve just received word from Valve’s Robin Walker that due to the recent release of a free Team Fortress 2, the Source SDK will soon become free to use in its entirety, for everyone.

The Source Software Development Kit, for those of you who’ve never clicked the Tools tab in Steam, contains everything you’d need to make a mod, except for personal ambition. It has everything from the infamous Valve Hammer Editor to Face Posers and Model Viewers. At the moment, to gain access to the Source SDK you have to purchase a Source based game such as Half Life 2, or as the official website states, Team Fortress 2. Which is of course now free.

News came via this Reddit thread detailing the exploits of an enterprising young man going by the name of Riley, who just happens to be the playtest leader of esteemed Source mods Zombie Panic Source and No More Room In Hell. They asked Team Fortress 2 developer Robin Walker if buying an item in the TF2 Mann Co. Store would give access to the Source SDK, Walker had this to say:

Yep. That said, your email has triggered a process here that made us re-examine that, and we’re going to just go ahead and make the Source SDK freely available. Thanks for making us better!

We emailed Walker for further confirmation, and he went on to explain:

We are in the process of getting it all done. It’s a bit messy because we have multiple versions of the SDK, and there’s some dependencies we need to shake out. But yes, the gist of it is that we’re just going to go ahead and make the Source SDK freely available.

Isn’t that nice. Makes me wonder if everything Valve makes from now on will be free OF COURSE THEY WON’T DON’T BE SILLY. We’ll probably be seeing an official announcement soon (and an update to that official page), but in the meantime you might want to brush up on your Hammer skills by having a look at the official SDK Documentation.

What are your favourite Source mods, readers?

Thread Update.

Completed pages 1 to 20 in the new updated posting format.

This format includes adding in game game pad support and netbook friendly info. Along with verifying working links and updated system requirements info.

I'm putting together a FAQ along with a break down of how to use the list for those that are looking for a specific type of game and/or new to freeware/F2P PC gaming.

Also - I will be moving games around to be placed into their proper genre listing. A good example is getting rid of the survivor horror section as it never sat well with me. While doing this I will introduce a new tag that will have the THEME of the game on each game posted. Here are the themes I will be placing:

Comedy
Drama
Fantasy
Horror
Military
Mystery
Other
Romance
Science Fiction

This new format is something that I will be working on with a few other ppl, if you want to help out let me know via PM.

I'm also thinking about another tag devoted to time, like this:

Under 30 minutes
Over 30 minutes
Under 1 hour
Over 1 hour and up

If anyone has any suggestions for themes let me know, not sure if I covered them all and I want to keep games themed under other to a minimum. Also there is a chance that I may skip a game over on whether or not it support game pads because if it was SP and I ended it, I've probably already uninstalled/deleted it and forgotten. Let me know if you see something that I should correct.
