Has anyone ever had to return a purchased game to Gamefly because it didn't work/load? I just got Resistance 2 this week and it won't load at all. Just interested to know if it's an easy process since they tout 100% guarantee on used games. Thanks in advance.

While that is true they are able to articulate their views it in no way changes the fact that a reviewer can not review without bias. A review is in many ways, their bias. I mean this isn't subject like abortion or health care where there are two sides (or more). If they like a game then it will receive a higher score even if it is an awful game (not to say a craptastic game will get a 10 even if they like it).

The only real difference between an average joe and a pro reviewer is the ability to articulate or express their views on the game for the most part (i know many an average joe that does wonderful jobs. Reviewers Legion on Gamespot.com for example, their leader is amazing and no I am not saying that because i am a member, but because i have read his reviews.

To me though there is only one good thing about reviews in general. They can show consistent scores (metacritic) and inform people on what the game offers (not whether what it offers is good or not). Because everything else is up to the person to decide on their own. I have disliked plenty of games that are regarded as amazing. No matter if a average joe or pro reviewer says otherwise. So i wouldn't say pro reviewers show unbiased views because in reality that is exactly what they are showing.

Damn that was a lot of typing..... i need to stop doing that...

You brought up some very good points, and I agree that industry reviews are generally consistent with their overall scores, when you compare them, especially in the Metacritic score. And it's true that no career reviewer is without their personal biases (they are human after all). However, since their paid profession is to review video games, it means that their jobs are on the line if they make things too personal. Everything they do has to be presented in a professional way, in order to uphold the "good names" of their respected companies. Taking that into consideration, I believe that most reviewers strive to be as unbiased, and as fair as possible when performing their reviews. Of course there are exceptions to that (as there are exceptions to everything else), like Adam Sessler from G4. That guy has a serious issue against RPGs, especially Final Fantasy . I still find him very entertaining though lol.

I think bias is actually helpful in reviews. If I'm on the market for a shooter, I want to know what the guy who loves shooters thinks, and what the guy who doesn't like shooters thinks. Same with any other genre. I prefer matching my own bias to a particular reviewer, rather than reading a review by someone who is too afraid of offending fans of a genre/IP by saying what they actually think. I prefer my reviewers to have just as much bias as any other gamer, just without any of the crap slinging that happens in some forums. I'd rather relate to them than hold them up on some sort of pedestal.

Of course there are exceptions to that (as there are exceptions to everything else), like Adam Sessler from G4. That guy has a serious issue against RPGs, especially Final Fantasy . I still find him very entertaining though lol.

This is the sort of bias that is actually helpful to me. As someone who got tired of the series, I wasn't exactly sure if I'd enjoy FF XII. So when X-Play gives it a 5/5 (when they typically couldn't care less about FF) I actually took notice. XII was probably my favorite since VI.

Perhaps you should look at yourself in the mirror, tough guy? You still haven't provided a coherent argument, nor articulated any of your views (besides criticizing me for having a view). Kindly go, and talk to a wall.

Dang, some pretty big words there chief. Who wrote it for you? A prick like you sure as hell didn't. That's for sure.

Gross generalization. Let me know when you're a writer then since it is so easily accomplished. And in your sig you are playing Lego Rock Band, case closed!

Case closed on what, exactly?

The only thing I've bought is Riddick, nothing else has impressed me.
I think the anticipation is more exciting than the games...it's cheaper too.

Weapons of Fate? I hear it's super short, so even if it is frustrating it shouldn't last too long.

I Wouldn't be surprised. Though for $10 I could do alot worse and like I said, it's fun from the hour or so I've put into it.

I think it tries a little too hard, like the movie did. I don't need to be reminded that I just paid you 60 dollars for your 3 hour game by being called a pussy.

I didn't buy it but I bet some people did.

edit:

Wow i got 3 games and they're still across the world. Gamefly must hate me. :(

This is a good thing right? Because from what i've seen\read, everyone is getting their shipments faster :(

Maybe i should order future games separately? XD
