I got the Xbox version but I was really tempted to get the GC version (PS2 was out of the question), anyway I also rented the Cube version from gamefly just to see how Link story ends. I noticed both Link and Spawn (dont know bout the PS2 char) can both use projectile attacks, but both are not powerful.. as legendary as Link is and as godly Spawn is they both suck in SC

So far I think Ivy and Voldo are the overpowered (not to mention overly used by Cheap players) I like using Cervantes,Yungsung,Taki,Mitsurugi and Sophitia. Overall its a great game, there is enough in the game to justify a purchase.

well i bought the xbox version and have played the gamecube demo and i found that the gamecube version is by far the best for me at least....Link is by far a better character and it is cool to see to namco is very detailed with him....spawn is a cool one but i find him to dominate every character really easily....both versions look great...for me the controller is the biggest difference...at first the gamecube controller was hard to use but after an hour or 2 you really can see how great the game works with the controller...the small d-pad is the worst feature but you should use the joystick anyway but the dpad is very usuable...i feel that the xbox buttons to be very unresponsive at times and the dpad is bad because of its pancake like shape makes it also unresponsive.

i feel there is only two versions to look at and that the controllers are the biggest difference between the two. Graphics wise they both look great but xbox has better sound...but i find the cube controller the best so as i return my xbox copy for the cube version..i will say the cube version is the best and agian this is just my opinion

I have the Gamecube version. Link's alright but I don't ever play with him. All the other characters are just way better. I have the DC Soul Calibur and have played the hell out of it. Unfortunately I think The DC version is slightly better. Just because of some of the details.

One of me, my wife, and our friends favorite things to play was Vs. Team Battle with random characters. In the DC version this was completely random and was kept secret until you became that character. Therefore you had to be fairly proficient with all the characters. In the new one you can choose random characters but you see who the computer chose for you as well as being able to deselect that character if you don't like them. I know this is petty but when this is the primary game mode you play it takes some of the fun out of it. Also some of the character designs aren't that great. Yoshimitsu's and Seung Mina's in particular.

Overall it's a really fun game. Just some of the details put me off. I'd say a 9 out of 10.

Hmm I havent been on recently.. Just moved to Cali and all... So now.. For SCII Im getting the Xbox one one Sunday I think.. So Ill decide to get Xbox or Gamecube version..

I bought the Cube version, mostly for Link, but also because it runs without any framerate hitches (both PS2 and Xbox chop up slightly when on the final "inferno" stage). I also imported two Hori sticks (too lazy to build my own :p), so the controller is a nonissue for me.

Anyway, I think the game is good. I felt the original SC was a bit overrated (It got quite a few perfect scores, and I believe an unbalanced fighting game, no matter how good, doesn't deserve perfect scores) and so was not surprised by the scores for SCII. After all, it is a fighting game sequel.

There are a good number of characters for a 3D fighter, and most play fairly uniquely. Obviously, Cervy and X rule the roost, but there was no surprise about that. The graphics are good, the sound is pretty good, and the gameplay is classic SC. Certainly worth putting 45 bucks down, seeing as how it won't get any cheaper anytime soon.

Ok, I got the ps2 version, mainly for the demo(I-Ninja is so cool). Anyways, I've played both the ps2 and the GC version, and when I switched from one to the other, I seriously noticed no graphical difference. It might be noticable if you had a side-by-side comparison, but from what I've seen, not much difference. And the characters look great(especially Taki :D ).

I also heard, prior to the release of the game, that the ps2 has slowdowns. Which almost made me choose a different console. I played the game for a few days and noticed 0 slowdowns. I thought it was all a lie. But, I was wrong. I have noticed some slowdowns in the game. But it only happens when you're really breaking out some attacks. But still, that's not exceptable. Especially in a fighting game.

The gameplay is great. If the game pulls you in, then the replay value is endless. The only complant that I really had(and a minor complaint too), is that I had to read way to much.

I guess they added enough to SCII to make it seem like a sequal. But not enough for a perfect score. I hope they are more innovative with the next installment.

Eh......I guess I better rate it or something *quickly makes up a rating system*.........Soul Calibur II gets a solid 9 "Cool Points".

Okay, I got the game for Xbox on Aug. 28th and I became a man possessed...as of Sunday, Sept. 7th, I completed it entirely.

Took me about 21 hours total. All 86 collection items, bought or found all the weapons in the gallery, finished all the chapters, subchapters, and extra chapters of Weapon Master Mode...twice. Even went around and made sure I played each mode, character, costume, and stage at least once so there were no "NEW" tags hanging around.

And I haven't even played it with my friends yet...

Now to get a cheapass Xbox memory card so I can carry this save along with the game when I go to friends' houses! Somebody find me a new one for under $15 including shipping, will ya? :)

As far as the game goes, I have no complaints whatsoever...the Xbox controller S is a champ...sturdy enough to sustain my fits of bouncing it off the carpet (instead of through the 32" TV) after getting my ass handed to me in the extra missions of WMM. The control is precise and exact - if you can't do a particular move there's no one to blame but yourself, not the controller or the input system. The graphics are gorgeous and the animation is outstanding. Great use of bumpmapping for reflections and surfaces such as Spawn's symbiotic suit and the weapon blades and armor surfaces. The arenas and environments are expansive and detailed - I just wish there was more variety in the terrain than the typical flat surface fighting square. The music in all areas of the game, from the menus to the areans, is epic and really sets the mood for the game. Sound effects are good, but sound a bit rehashed from the first Dreamcast game, particularly the weird "crunching" Ivy's sword makes when swung like a whip. Though I'm a bit of a traditionalist and prefer the original Japanese language track, the English voice acting is superb for a game of this type. Cool variety of weapons for each character to use in the extra modes, and lots of things to unlock and try out, and tons of modes to keep you busy long after you've unlocked everything.

I rarely buy new, full-price games, and when I do, I can count on one hand the number I've pulled this much play time on, and I plan to log a lot more hours in the future on it...

Soul Calibur 2 for Xbox was SO worth EVERY penny.

9/10

Getting the Game:

Soul Calibur II for PS2. My suitemate got it, and all 8 of us have been playing it a lot, but not so much now that everything has been gotten. So the suitemate went out to Wal-Mart and when he came back, he said he didn't get it. Then he tossed me a bag, and said, DVD. Inside was SCII!

The game:

It hasn't really changed, and the controls aren't that different from DC. It's really fun, but Heihachi is not cool, only one suitemate really uses him, and is cheap with him. The other new characters, however, fit in perfectly with the rest of the players. But I shouldn't be talking, since I am referred to as the cheap player, because I have the ability to find a cheap move, and use that one move to defeat my opponents. I am proficient with Yunsung, Cervantes, Sophitia, and others randomly.

Weapons master mode is awesome, an improvement upon an already excellent mode from SC. One suitemate just finished it up a few days ago, so we have all characters, all weapons, but no Inferno, which I am dissapointed about, since in SC, you could unlock him.

Time Attack is fun too, but sort of easy, I got 3 perfect rounds in a row, using my cheap character, Yunsung ( back back and then circle, square together = awesome)

I myself plan on getting the GC edition, mainly for Link, and the dude who beat the weapons master said that the controls were great for it.

Complaints about SCII:

The fact the announcer says Ring Out. I loved when they said Out of the Ring!, it reminds me of the bad translations and the unnessesarily long phrase to say something so simple. I always fall off the ring when I do a ring out.

SCII Talk:

So for a few days a suitemate wrote on the board outside his door SCII quotes that we had said during gameplay:

A new move to add to my arsenal of cheapness - me upon learning that you can actually throw people. And throws look cool with Yunsung!

He slammed the giant sword into her

There's something oddly sexual about that...

Yes, yes there is...

Halo is the devil!

Long lost Brother? Is that you?

Im exactly the same way. Yungsung rocks.

I got me Soul Caliber II for the Xbox..

First off.. Probably the best fighter on Xbox.. Maybe until DoA:O..

Story... What kinda story you looking for in a fighting game? Look towards arcade mode and Weapon Master or something like that..

Weapon Master basicly a story.. U have to read can get difficult near chapter 10.. Buying new weapons for ur characters and costumes.. Theres a ranking system (levels), but i dont understand what it does..

Fighting... Extremely fun. Great multiplayer.. Of course its limited to 2 but switch off or whatever.. =/

Characters..Most characters are well balanced.. Only character I find tough to beat (1v1 humans) is Kilik can be annoying with the damn rod..

Spawn... He is awesome! One of my favorites.. =)

One downfall of the characters are they have the most ridiculus sayings.. "Scream! Worms!" -Asteroth

All in all great game for 50$

I have played this game for the ps2 and it is by far one the best games I have played in my lifetime. It is so well rounded and addictive. Definetly not what I expected from a fighter game. See, I grew up when Mortal Kombat tried to do the old grab extra money on crappy sequels to a good first game and that just TOTALLY pushed me away from fighting games for a LONG time, until I played Soul Edge, then Soul Caliber, then Caliber2. These guys better not let me down with number 3, they're really in my good books.
