2010 New Year's Resolutions?

I have a few:

First one is ironic (given this post)

1. Focus more during the day on working with less procrastinating with internet goofing etc. so I work less on nights and weekends.

2. Get a minimum of 2 or 3 articles off to scholarly journals to start working toward tenure. Spent too much time on teaching and procrastinating during the fall semester.

3. Cut back a little spending on stuff like beer and eating out to keep buiding up a nest egg and start paying off student loans (want to pay as much past the minimum as I can each month).

4. Get a more normal sleep schedule--I'm too random in how late I stay up/sleep in which gets my work, gym etc. schedule out of wack.

5. Budget free time better to spend more time on movies and games. Spend too much free time goofing line (again the irony of this post), flipping channels, watching sports events I have no rooting interest in etc.

So in short, I guess my overall resolution is to be a bit more focused and disciplined in the coming year.

Weird for sure with the posts flipping around. I posted the thread in feedback by accident first (was on wrong tab in firefox), but I don't see what that would have to do with it. Probably just a server glitch.

Anyway, like you, I used to never make resolutions, and have the "I won't change" attitude. But getting older it's easier to see things that can be improved etc. A lot of it comes with being more career driven now I suppose, and feeling a need to focus in even more on that.

I think I will borrow these from you.

Eh, I mainly just need to manage my time better. I too spend far too much time slacking off while browsing the net instead of either playing games, doing college work, or something else that is more worthwhile. Definitely won't be something that's easy to change as I've been wasting time on the net for years.

Yeah this is the first time I've seen the post bumping glitch effect the OP of a thread.

1 and 5 for me are basically the same (although 1 isn't job related). I've got way too many books to read , movies and TV shows to watch and games to play , and yet I end up spending most of my time online. If I'm going to be on the computer the least I could be doing is playing some PC games.:D

Sleep schedule is also a problem for me , but part of that is because since I don't have a normalized work schedule it ends up throwing off my sleep no matter what. I know if I stick to it it'll balance out in the end , but it's hard.

Ones for myself:

1.Try and start eating better (again). Starting about August last year I starting eating better and getting more exercise and ended up losing a bunch of weight (about 40-50 lbs overall) but since then I've leveled out and have started going back to my old eating habits (although fortunately haven't gained any weight back).

2.Finally get my license and a car.

3.Move out to my own place (goes along with 2).

Yeah, for me its the downside of the freedom that comes with being a Prof. I ask not to teach morning courses, and only teach 2 days a week, so it's up to me to stick myself to a routine, not stay up too late and sleep in till noon etc. as outside of teaching a couple classes and meetings here or there I can do my work when and where I want for the most part.

So I just need to be a bit more disciplined in getting on a routine and working more efficiently in the new year than I did my first semester as a prof. Part of it was burn out from busting ass so much last year (through July) to finish up the Ph D, with no break between that and starting the new job. Defended the dissertation and moved a week later and got right to work on getting ready for the fall semester.

Cut up one of my credit cards and pay off the other to keep for emergencies. Also, don't let my life get fucked like I did this year. 2009 sucked

Get in shape
No more pop
No more fastfood
No more junk food

Spend my time being more constructive.

Beat games and get rid of them, no room to hold onto a lot any more

Main goal is to run an half-marathon by end of summer. Also, I plan to budget money better as it relates to food i.e. will have to start eating some at home.

figure out what I want to do with my life
somehow find a girlfriend or friends lol

most everything comes under the umbrella of the former.

Thanks for making me laugh, berzirk. That goal is admirable, but seems kind of mean(to yourself).
Mine:
Finish a whole cycle of P-90X (Damn you Tony Horton, I got so close last time!)
Quit smoking(via the electronic cig that I got for Christmas)
Find a nice, happy girl that's not crazy
Bang a hot older woman
Keep doing well in my second semester of college so I keep receiving the G.I. Bill

Oh yeah, PleasePleasePlease drive safe tonight, everyone. I'm not just saying don't drink and drive, watch out for the drunk fucks coming out of the woodwork as the night goes on.

Free transit FTW. Even though it'll probably take forever.

Manage my time better

I spend so much time on CAG, playing games and wasting time on the net...I need to cut back

Since nobody has said it yet ... To crush my enemies, see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

...

I'll be passing the CCENT, completing the CCNA and leaving tech support head first or feet first. I'm tired of talking to stupid people 40+ hours a week and resolve to stop doing it even for pay.

I'll push my wife into bonding with Caitlyn more. They'll finish the Harry Potter series and then they're going to read every Shakespeare play together. Caitlyn will be attending a class on explosives this winter offered by a local college. Her grade school wants to test her to determine whether or not she is genius. I resolve my daughter's mind will not be allowed to rot in front of a TV or by the company of ordinary people.

The Boy has not had the easiest life. Scarred by disease and tended poorly by caregivers, he appeared to be inferior for years. Corrections were enforced and he rebounded. He appears every bit as intelligent as Caitlyn, but his obstacles gave him the gift of cunning and all those steroids made him stronger than any of his peers. I resolve to remove the last of his feral tendencies so he can choose to appear normal and have the element of surprise.

Lastly, 2010 should prove to be the last year of uncertainty for my wife and our marriage. A new house has been purchased. Bills are under control. Vehicles have been repaired in full. Amenities have been updated. There is enough money that debts can be attacked. I resolve to drastically reduce our debts and inform everybody that the only future with a married version of me requires a dropping debt level.

JJSP: Hence why his avatar is Mr. Burns.

Anyway, none really, I don't need to change and don't want to change. I move along a random path.

A little late, but my resolution is to make no new resolutions.
