Will the Original Xbox 12 Month codes work once Original's Live is shut down?

I bought a 12-month code at one of my local stores for $25 because I heard you can use it for 360's Live, but now that it's going to be shut down in April, should it still work after that period? And if not, can I use it on my profile right now to "auto-renew" in December, when I'd need to pay for it otherwise?
