Welcome to the Toys R Us clearance thread! Like all stores, Toys R Us also has clearance games-- and they often drop numberous times, such as going down to 19.98, 9.98, 5.00, and even as low as 3.00. There doesn't appear to be a set rhythm to when these drops occur, or how many of them will occur. Also, be aware that the games may not have their prices correctly marked-- generally, all TRUs will have the same pricing (there will always be exceptions) so do not let the price tag dissaude you from at least checking to see if it's at the price that it's been reported here.

Games, when possible, will have their SKU number posted. Please post any SKU numbers you have that aren't already in the list!

Also, some stores will be able to give you a price adjustment if your clearance game(s) drop-- if not, you can always try to return and rebuy the game(s).

Here are the latest drops-- special thanks to Prim4444! http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7341511&postcount=245

Yes.

Although, I will note that I do not mind maintaining this for the rest of my CAG life. But, if anyone ever wanted to take a crack at the TRU clearance thread, they are more than free to.

I'll keep track of the topic this time, didn't read the other one recently until just today and missed out on quite a few good deals.

Not sure if I should be posting this as it was jaysapathy's decision to delete it, but here's the most recent of the OP from the other TRU thread (March 9, 2010). Should it be requested, I will remove it.

Well... for those in the market for a Zune.

The 8GB Pink will be dropping from $129.98 - $64.98 next week. I would have to assume that any and all Zunes should follow suit if they are in stock. I didn't see any of the accessories in the drops though.

A lot of stuff going to be marked down next week store wide. No games though.

Thanks for that giant list you recovered-- I think I'm just going to work backwards from the old OP up until the turn of the new year. The original OP's list is really outdated, and I'm not even sure what games from his list should be omitted for age.

Speaking of which-- going until I hit January 1st of this year for updating the OP. Is that enough? Do you think clearance from 2009 is still around? If anyone can make a compelling arguement stating that this would be true, I'll keep going back through 2009. If not, updating all of the stuff posted this year should suffice. When we get new updates, I'll start posting SKU numbers for the games (although it appears Prim is always on top of it)

If you'll notice, the OP right now is a carbon copy of the Target OP. I like this layout, but if you guys don't, let me know. I'm also pondering, since TRU seems to have less price points for clearance (Target is percentage base which yields in all sorts of prices while it seems like TRU just picks a number and sticks with it regardless of MSRP of the game) of simplying making a 5.00, 9.98, 19.98, and any other price point that comes up, and jamming all of the games under each section. Stuff would still be organized and alphabetized by system (with those little emoticons probably) but every 19.98 game would be under the 19.98 section, as opposed to seperating by system. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, we can try this out, or we can just stick with the Target template.

Let me know what you think!

Maybe old clearance games could be posted in the OP with the spoiler tag. Then it would still be there for anybody interested, but still out of the way.

If I'm understanding right, you're talking about a list like this:
$19.98
:360:
:ps3:
:wii:

$9.98
:360:
:ps3:
:wii:

If so, I think it would be great. It's organized and I like the idea of seeing all games at a particular price tag in one spot.

Yep, that would be it right there. It's a little more work, but it could make things a bit more organized. I might try that out when we get a new list of drops.

Also, something I am considering: The main part of the thread would be "Latest Drops" and then I'd spoiler tag at least the last four-six months in the OP. This seems like an attractive solution because Target is so dynamic and fast moving that something like that could never work in that thread, but at the slower pace of TRU... that could be feasible. Plus it appears that Prim can provide very large lists of drops with the date.

And thanks for the list of drops, Prim!

Just to be clear, you do realize that my post in the other thread was meant to be sarcastic, right? I know sarcasm doesn't transfer well on the internet so next time I'll add a smiley with the rolling eyes. ;)

Cool new thread! Thanks for doing this FoS. I'll help out when I can, although I doubt it will be much since I don't work that often.

Looks great FoS!

I wouldn't bother going back further than the drops that happened this year, but if you do the list I made does have the dates for each game of the previous (significant amount of games) drops which all happened in August. I think every game that had dropped within August. You may have noticed but in case you didn't that will save you from having to go through the thread. I think there will be very few games now left from those drops available - mostly just the stuff most people here would not buy.

Putting everything under each pricepoint sounds like a good idea.

The Xbox games listed, are they still on the shelves with the normal games usually?

I was in a TRU about a week ago but I only went through the clearance bin as I hadn't read a list of what was supposed to be dropped.
The Xbox games listed, are they still on the shelves with the normal games usually?
You mean 360? Well it depends. Right now my store has a bin of $9.98 & under games that usually isn't there. But the only 360 clearance game we have, Alone in the Dark, isn't in the bin because M rated games aren't supposed to be on the floor. But of course around xmas when all $19.99 games were on sale, even the M rated stuff came out of the cases. So I guess my answer is, even within a single store, ymmv.

As others said already, FoS, you are a glutton for punishment for taking on two threads like this. But if it brings you some sort of joy, then so be it.

Hey guys...I was contacted by TRU with the request that remove "Official" from the thread title name to prevent any potential confusion that this was actually an "Official" TRU thread.

Yes, it sounds silly to me but I told them we would comply. Carry on!

Really? They are going after you on that? Someone had too much time on their hands this morning. Maybe we should tag all the "official" threads as "CAG approved" or "Permanent" just for clarity.

Anyway, to FoS, yep your masochistic side is showing through here, but thanks for the effort. One suggestion though, perhaps it's just me, but the blue prices on the black background are a little tough to read. Perhaps the lighter blue used for the "Keep extaneous discussion..." disclaimer would be better. Just a minor quibble I had.
cheers

Im with hosty that the blue prices are a bit tough to read, but thanks for the effort you are putting forth!

And TRU getting at the community because it has official in the topic, lame but oh well

Oh, no, I wouldn't say it brings me joy or anything resembling joy. But, someone has to run it right now. Like I said, if anyone wants to run this... if it gives them joy... :)P) then they can feel free. Just keeping the gravy train running, and I want some things to add to my resume. Let's see them turn me down on the new position at work when I tell them I am the OP of two threads.

But I don't think running this thread will give me any issue. I added every update there was to add for 2010 in a couple of hours (some of which was me screwing around on the internet, not even working on the thread) This thread is about 5X easier and less time consuming than the Target thread.

And about the blue-- I figured it may have been too dark. I wanted to add something from the TRU color scheme, basically like a palatte swap of the Target thread. I'll switch to the lighter blue, guys!

Nice work FoS! Glad to see you taking the reins on this one. I am predicting a success similar to what we have in the Target thread for the new TrU thread!

I know some people are against an updated OP, but I prefer having something updated within a few days of a drop. I agree that it is a good tactic to not post drops in the OP prior to them actually happening, but once they are confirmed I think it is fair game to post them.

As for lurkers or people from other sites stealing the info, that is going to happen regardless. As with any deal, if you want to get in on it, you have to show up the day of the drop. If you don't and you miss out on the deal then you have nobody to blame but yourself.

TRU sucks.

I find it interesting that they watch these message boards so closely. I would too if I were them.
FoS you must be either a 75 year old retiree or a teenage high school dropout to have the time to run both clearance threads.
I just manage my time well. ;)

Hey, I tried the new format I proposed in the OP. I saved the old one in the word pad. I like how condensed it is... but it seems... I dunno... crowded or something. Check it out guys and let me know how you think (and especially iPhone/mobile users, to see if it's easy to read when on the go-- and hispanic users, let me know if you can read the list)

Personally, I liked the way that you had it formatted more when you had it broken down by system. TRU doesn't shelve their games by price (well, except for the occasional bin, but that's the exception and the markdowns are obvious there), it shelves them by system.

I'm mostly thinking in terms of when I'm standing in TRU looking at the list on my phone -- if it's listed by system, then when I'm standing in, say, the DS section, I can see all of the DS drops at once. If it's listed by price, then I have to check down through each price section for the DS games.

I also would expect it to be a bit easier to maintain by system, as when something drops further, you won't have to scroll back and forth quite as much to move it.

As far as phone visibility goes, my only comment would be that the yellow on the SKUs is extremely difficult to read against the light grey background that the mobile site uses (same problem on the Target thread, actually). Other than that, looks great!

Thanks FoS for all of your work!

I agree with you guys, as far my preference goes for updating and looking at the list. I like having it broken down by system. There was a couple of people who chimed in saying they liked the proposed idea too. So, I'll think about it for a moment, but right now the OP looks... fugly with all of the system emoticons and lines of text smashed together.

And I know that yellow text has been a complaint for a while. I keep meaning to fix it, but always forget. I'll definitely do something about that for both threads.

EDIT: Restored the OP. Sorry if anyone liked the new format, or didn't get to see it. I wanted to try something different from the Target thread, but I think the old way is really best, if I had to pick between the two.

EDIT 2: Switched to a gold color for the SKU. Let me know how this works on iPhone/mobile device.

It's definitely better, though it's still pretty light. Readable, though.

Also, the "LemonChiffon" (that's a color? really?) text used on the system names is pretty close to invisible -- fortunately it's still possible to see which system is which with the system emoticons next to them.

Basically, because the mobile site uses a very light background, no light colors are going to show up well. Really, what would be most preferable would be for Cheapy to change the background colors on the mobile version to match those of the main site, since this is a problem anywhere on the site where people use light-colored text, but I've messaged him about it in the past and never gotten a response.

Actually, I like the format how you have it now. It does seem a little less cluttered and easier to view on a mobile.

I'm sure a lot of companies do actually. Whether or not it's the top brass, marketing, or pricing teams is in doubt; though I wouldn't be surprised if the online/website teams for retail companies regularly check CAG.

Thanks for the new thread... I hadn't been checking the TRU for a while. Time to stop in and see what I can pillage. Appreciate all your efforts in both threads FoS!

What are the pixel art things made out of, anyway? Are they those plastic rings that you put together and then iron? They look like it, but I was just wondering.

GH: World Tour(PS3) full band bundles are down to either 79.98 or 74.98. Can't remember which one, but I know it's one of the two. Not sure about 360, as we were out of those. I'll double check the price and see what I can find in regards to SKNs on the bundles

Couple of SKN's that were missing from the OP:
Wii:
Blast Works - 23778
PS3:
TNA Impact: 405340
360:
Popcap: 203988
PS2:
KoF:XI - 404518
Pirates of the Carrib: 364006
SlyCooper: 604545

Also, good luck with the thread Sonic, although with the way things have been in regards to TRU Clearances, this thread shouldn't be that hard.
