I've was lucky enough to go to a couple of advanced screenings of The Ghost Writer and Hot Tub Time Machine (loved them both) and got to wondering if CAG had a dedicated thread just for this. I didn't see one, sooooo here you go!

Now I'm definitely open to suggestion on how this thread should work, so feel free to let me know.

Here are a few of my suggestions:

1) If you see a film in advance of its official release date, let us know what you think (keep it short and sweet -- this ain't AICN).

2) (WARNING: SOME SITES HAVE SUGGESTED THAT YOU COULD BE BANNED FROM FUTURE SCREENINGS FOR THESE ACTIONS, SO CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING YMMV.) If you score passes but for whatever reason you can't go, offer them to other CAGs for free, exchange passes for a different date with another CAG, and/or barter with another CAG (reminder: NO MONEY SHOULD CHANGE HANDS). Why let FREE go to waste?

3) Since pretty much all passes allow for a guest, maybe this could be a good way to meet another CAG in your area (especially if you don't have someone already to go with you)? Or several CAGs can plan to attend the same screening?

4) Most films screenings listed here will be U.S. based, but that doesn't mean that screenings in other countries (U.K., Europe, Japan, South America, etc.) can't be listed here. Who knows, maybe you will attract attention to film that many of us will be aware of and at the very least, look for it when there is an art house theatrical release and/or dvd.

Here are a few links and suggestions on how to score advance passes. If you know of some more, please PM so I can add them:

with this area being the suck fest that it is I don't think we have ever had an advance screening of a movie. We may get midnight showings of some movies. Hell the one theater in the area that was shoing the eight films to die for doesnt even do them anymore from what I understand.

Good thread, I've gotten 2-3 from the SD thread, unfortunately Birmingham doesn't seem to be a prime market for free screenings.

Well I was wrong. the St. Louis MO area has 3 advance screenings. How to train your dragon in St. Louis, the hot tub time machine in Creve Coeur and clash of the titans in Fenton. Only one I really want to check out is clash of the titans only I'm not going to drive 45 minutes to see it 3 days early. Also work hours wont let that happen. Sucks for me.

If anyone is in LA/OC area (SoCal), I'm part of a group that does advance screenings weekly. Depending on who you are, I can get you an invite on the premise that you not be involved in the industry (can't work at a studio, for a review site, or at a theatre).

Hey JJSP, any chance you have any more info of ur advance screenings? I usually go with my gf to advance screenings with screening exchange, but most of their screenings are in the san fernando valley area, and we're usually driving from chino hills. Let me know if you have anything coming up in the OC area.

you sound legit Viol8tor

or should i say ROGER EBERT

I like the idea of this thread, but please don't bump it if you don't have new information. Also, for official threads, we like to just have specific information in the OP. The movie logos are really clogging it up without serving any purpose.

JJSP , im interested, not working in the industry
what kind of screenings do you usually get? im closer to LA area
Thanks. Not completely free, but someone might still want it.
I would hope that the $7 to ship it would deter *any* CAG from getting it.

Cool thread. I've been using Gofobo for the last 6 months and it's pretty cool. Got to see Kick-Ass at Showest here in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago and it was great. Now I'm looking around for that Clash of the Titans code since I missed out on those on Wednesday. :(

I jealous on Kick-Ass, but have completely struck out on Clash passes:cry:

Not only did I not score a pass for this past Monday's Clash of the Titans screenings (attempted thru 4 different sources:roll:), it looks like Indy does not have one film currently scheduled for April screenings :bomb::bomb::bomb:.

fuck me!

Hope others have been luckier.

Great thread. Wanted to try for Clash tickets in NYC but my girl would kill me if I saw it without her.

Any others in the NYC area? Lets keep each other informed locally.
You heard me right, my girl is working on a farm in Vermont where the closest movie theater is like 45 minutes away so it looks like Ill be paying regular admission for it.
Yeah, I wouldn't want her to kill you over it. Good women are hard to come by!
I've been trying to navigate the sites but to no avail with finding the RSVP codes for gofobo. Any recommendations? I'm in Chicago.
same, trying to get some tickets for Orlando but can't figure out how to get an RSVP code.

The most user friendly of the sites is the blog: http://freemoviecodes.blogspot.com/

There's nothing current for orlando but they posted stuff for She's Out of My League and Hot Tub Time Machine (both which were quite entertaining)

yeah I saw Hot Tub Time Machine thanks to the thread just about that on CAG :) I didn't know Out of My League was playing here, but I wasn't interested at all in that movie anyways.
