It ask for the name and what your symbol you will have. I Tried inviting you, but you need to actually play the game first it said lol. It needs cause you can also learn moves in the Career from the Online training Camp as well. I'm pretty sure everybody can teach everybody, it's not just set to me as a trainer. That's how I have seen it so far. Maybe some others can shed some more light.

Ugh...stupid UPS taking all fucking day. I was doing some updates to the OP and looking at last year's thread and it made me think of a few more questions. What options were available to you as far as creating your fighter? Can you actually pick different weights as a Heavyweight now? Or does it at least put you at 265? I remember last year all HW's were stuck at 235 no matter what. How about nickname choices? Last year you were "The Headhunter". I know there's supposed to be more choices this year, but are they decent? And what did you pick?

All right, in beginning to post fighter information, I ran into something, and it gave me some more ideas on how to do things. I do think resetting the belts and doing a big tournament to kick things off is a good idea, but for fighters who are returning, I think their records should carry over.

My thought behind this is that some of these fighters already have a legacy built up, and I think it would be kinda cool to be able to continue that for those that wish to do so. Others who want to start fresh with a brand new fighter are free to do that too, and will have a clean record. I'd just like to keep it as realistic and similar to a real world MMA organization as possible. Thoughts?
Do you have what it takes to compete?

A lot more options now. I actually made him have a stomach lol. I don't know how to pick a different weight except for choosing heavyweight which sets you at 240. A Lot of Nickname choices now a long with choosing your first and last name. I picked The Saint cause I didn't want Garry. :P I think there are a lot more choices which are nice. IT seems as if your through Career you go to different camps and choose your move set. You know what moves I am improving on. But, It's hard for me to keep up with the attributes for some reason.

Cool. Too bad about the weight though. It sounds like last year where heavyweight is just heavyweight...though apparently they've all gained five pounds and are now up to 240, haha. I guess weight doesn't really matter, but I don't like seeing guys like Brock and Carwin at 265 and then you're supposed to be dominating them at 240.

They should have just made heavyweight CAFs 265 since there will most likely never be another Heavyweight Champion who weighs significantly less than that (which is why I believe in a 206-235 Heavyweight class and a 236-265 Super Heavyweight class). Anyway, the other stuff sounds awesome. Can't wait to get my game!

WOOHOO! Game finally got here! Time to beat Gary's ass! ;)

EDIT - Just want to give everybody a heads up, the code to unlock online play is on the back of your manual. You should probably try redeeming it before you even start the game because if not, the game tells you that there is DLC available for update before you even reach the menu, and then takes you to the XBL store where it appears ready to use points to purchase the update. I thought I remembered a screen asking if you had a code, but I didn't see one and was all the way at the "Confirm Download" option and it showed the download costing 400 points. If you get this far, you have to press X (I think it's X anyway) to "Buy Microsoft Points", and then you can choose "Redeem Code", which will then let you put your code in. I did it this way, but it would seem like less hoops to jump through if you just did it before you even booted the game up.

I won't get mine for a couple hours, but I was playing 2009 till 7 A.M. trying to get the "win all title sin career mode" achievement, starting with my LW submission specialist. No sub of the night trophy yet... god damn it. That's the only one I never got.

May play some more 2009 while waiting. We need to play 2010 tonight, though.

Also, great news on the first and last names. I just hope I can have the announcer actually say "Matt Young" like in other games. It's a common name. But, for some reason, in THQ/Yukes' WWE games, despite having Matt Hardy's name announced when you choose him, you can only choose "Matthew" as your CAW's announced name.

Gary, can you choose first AND last, or just one?

Matt, it looks to be the exact same thing here. You can choose from a "name template" which I assume is the names that the announcers can verbally say. HOWEVER, the list is really weird, and even though there are two fighters in the game named "Nate", it is not available as a choice.

That's why Gary said he would have to choose "Garry" if he wanted his name announced. No, he wasn't misspelling his own name. The game actually has "Garry" as a "name template" name, but not "Gary". So, more than likely, you will have to just type your name in and go by a nickname...like last year. The good news is, there are more nicknames. The bad news is, most are pretty terrible. Thank God the gameplay is improved...because that part was disappointing.

Jesus Christ... That submission of the night trophy for 2009 is impossible. You can only submit guys in the first few fights; after that, it becomes impossible. There is no way to get it. I've subbed guys- no trophy. I just want that fucking achievement.

Anyway, will anyone be on 2010 in a couple hours? I can't play at the moment, but I definitely will be. I'd like to join the camp, too.

Yeah, I never got that achievement because of that dumb ass trophy. I read a lot about it last year, that you had to only attempt the submission once...and it had to be either right at the beginning of the fight, or close to the very end. Nothing ever worked for me though.

I'll probably be playing UFC tonight. I haven't figured out how to join the camp though. The only option it gives me for camps is to create one of my own. I'm not sure if you have to start a career before you can join one or not. I created a fighter real quick to screw around with, but I probably won't actually make myself until tomorrow, or whenever I decide what skill sets and stuff I want to use.

Ok, I got an invite from Gary for Camp CAG, so now it let me join no problem. I see that there is an actual Team Captain and Trainer designation though (I noticed this when I tried going into "Camp Customization" and it said only the Captain and Trainer could access that). So, I guess that means Gary's the Captain...and we need to pick a Trainer. Not sure if it's a "Club GM" thing like with NHL, but the game made it sound like there was only one trainer.

Will probably pick this up tommorow.

I got so lucky with that submission of the night trophy in 09. Right when the match started, in a championship match against Anderson Silva, I just bum rushed him, got a takedown, and hit the right stick for a sub. Somehow it worked, and bam, trophy.

Awesome. Glad to hear most everybody seems to be picking this up (even MagicKing went out to Gamestop and bought it after he saw me playing). Now if we could just start getting more people in this thread. If anybody else has decided on their weight class yet, just let me know. Matt, I think you should try out Lightweight (or Welterweight if you want to be in the same division as me again) if that's what you're actually close to now. Crazy that you've lost that much weight. And I thought I was doing good, haha.

The thing that convinced me to drop to Welterweight was just the idea of facing a different group of fighters as I go through career. I mean, I'll probably play through all the weight classes anyway, but for my main guy, I wanted some different competition. Both Lightweight and Welterweight have some really good fighters. And I guess if you started at Lightweight, you could eventually move up (I would think that would apply to your online CAF too, but I don't know for sure).

Anyway, anybody who knows what weight class they want to start their first fighter in, feel free to post. I'd like to get some more names added to the OP to maybe encourage more new people to sign up.

I didn't want to lose the wight though, see. I started at 125, made my way up to 193 (had a little fat on me) and then down to 175, where I was trim and quite muscular for my height (5'8"). Now, I just look way too skinny. :-\

I was planning to go with middleweight, but I guess I'll have a bit to consider. After a very... complicated night, I'll finally be able to unwrap the game here in a minute. Finally. Hopefully I can get some practice and achievements, and play with you guys tomorrow.

So, I beat everybody in Heavyweight in Career. They asked if I wanted to drop down a weight class. I actually did, I'm just hoping when I can keep dropping down and when I'm ready I can go back to Heavyweight. I like it so far. Only thing is, feels like a lot of knockouts and less submissions really.

Hey Gary, thanks for ignoring my message on Live asking for a camp invite. :-P

I finally got to play, and I just finished a 3 hour session with the game. The best way to sum up my feelings would be to say that I am very let down. For as much as they added this year, they fucked up just as much stuff.

On the bright side, I did get 9 achievements for 180 points, and I'm close to a few more. But let's start with that- achievements.

The achievement for getting a flash KO against the CPU is glitched. I've gotten flash KO's 25+ times, and no achievement. I looked it up, and people everywhere are reporting the same thing. Not a single one of my friends has the achievement, not even the guy who's had a review copy for over a week. Some people claim they have gotten it, but I have yet to see any proof. And even if they did, it's still glitched for a lot of people.

Then there's the "Fighting with pride" achievement. It's not glitched, as far as I know, but the means of acquiring it that everyone is mentioning does not work. I read that you have to get in a clinch and throw some blows back and forth. I did every type of clinch and used every type of strike possible from every clinch, and even used former PRIDE fighters. No achievement.

The strikes feel... off. It's like they were trying to steal Fight Night's system, but didn't do it right. yeah, glancing blows and such are more realistic, but the strikes don't feel anywhere near as impactful as they did in 2009.

I also can't get a fight stopped due to a cut. Every time I try to inflict more damage on the wounded area, I knock the guy out. Any tips?

I completed Title Mode. That was a breeze. Title Defense, on the other hand... whoa boy. I just have to say, I *really* hope the cheap AI is only in this mode and not in the rest of the game, especially the career. That could cause me to get rid of the game very quickly- something I never do.

You have to go through all 12 fights in Title Defense mode in one sitting, which is a pain in the ass. And the fights get ridiculously hard. The difficulty you choose does not matter in this mode. The worst part of it is how cheap it is.

In 2009, the computer got more skilled and offered more of a challenge as you increased the difficulty. In 2010, the computer just cheats. It's one of the few bad parts of the Smackdown vs. Raw series, so Yukes apparently thought, "Hey, our UFC game doesn't have enough flaws" (I'm not being facetious; 2009 had very few problems) "Let's add this in and practically break the fucking game!" The CPU will literally catch every punch or kick on the higher difficulties. You cannot attempt strikes without getting destroyed.

I haven't played online yet, but I hope that is mostly lag free like last year. I also hope that we can at least alternate who the 1 trainer is per camp so we can all get the achievement and not have to create multiple camps to get it.

I haven't played Career Mode yet, but it looks much improved from last year. I just worry that the AI will be like it is in Title Defense. if not, it should be a ton of fun.

Event Mode is really awesome, and has the exact presentation of a UFC PPV. I'll have to go through and actually watch a card and see how entertaining it is. I have to do that to get the achievement, anyway.

In summation, based on the features I have played- everything but career mode and online- this game, while having better features/modes than 2009, is definitely step back. Had I not played 2009, I'd be thrilled with this game. It's a very good game on its own. But, as for now, I simply shake my head and dream of what could have been.

I was excited for the game and liked the demo, but I didn't pick up my preorder last night. I've been debating whether or not to buy it, Red Dead and Mario Galaxy 2 are going to soak up a lot of my dwindling gaming time already and I've got a backlog still. I think I'm going to wait and join the league later in the year.

Well, even regular Title Mode, when you get to the final fight, the difficulty just ramps up. I even chose beginner because I just wanted to get through it because I had heard Title Defense was much harder. But I had Big Nog in my last fight (I was using Lesnar because I was also trying to get the Flash KO achievement), and he just spammed the shit out of submissions. I didn't have a problem hitting him if I was strategic with my timing (which is critical on the higher difficulties), but he would just constantly go for takedowns.

And once he had me down, there was no such thing as him "transitioning". I tried to not spaz out and try to escape over and over again. But any time I wasn't going for a transition, he would pop on a kimura or an ankle lock. I finally beat him just by abandoning real MMA strategy and going ape shit on him from the opening bell. I threw as many punches as possible and rocked him in the first 20 seconds of the fight. He recovered, but I was able to finish him off later.

I do think the AI in this game is a bit too good. They seem to be able to utilize the sway system infinitely better because it's like they KNOW what punch is coming. You never see them sway into a punch (like I seem to do half the time). I wouldn't say the game is "broken" by any means, it's just going to take a lot more practice and and different strategy than you could use in last year's game to beat the AI routinely this year.

As for the Flash KO achievement, I didn't get it either, but I don't think it's broken. I think most people aren't understanding what a true flash KO is. I'd bet anything to get it to pop in this game, you have to catch the guy with one punch, without having built up any damage to his head prior to that. Yeah, I knocked out guys a million times without rocking them, but I had already punished them a ton before that, and the after fight stats showed their head damage in the 90-100% range. For a flash KO, you've probably got to knock them out well before that.

To comment on Matt's last post more directly, here's my opinion on what they did wrong and what they did right with this game.

What They Did Wrong
1. The menu system is still pretty terrible. Yeah, they improved it, but things still take far too long to load, and some things still feel buried under a million different submenus. This gets worse online because the game seems to need to "connect" every time you back out of a menu. I'm hoping this is just a server issue due to the game JUST coming out though. Every online game deserves a little slack its first week out.

2. The difficulty ramps up a little too quickly. I guess some people could see this as a good thing, but as Matt mentioned, it's more because of how the AI fights. They spam and cheese a lot of things and it makes your defense go from being tactical to "spastic button mashing". My hope is that CAGFC will make you forget about this. Playing human opponents was way more fun than playing the AI last year anyway. As long as the lag isn't tremendous (which I haven't tested yet), I think we'll have a lot of fun.

3. Creating your character still leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to hear a real name announced, you have to change from a "name bank" which is pathetically small, and doesn't even have first and last names of fighters that are already in the game. Nicknames are also pretty terrible. I wasn't able to do much with the clothing design because unless I'm doing something wrong, you don't have access to any sponsors in regular CAF mode. You have to go into career to unlock them. You do get to use a basic color wheel this year though, so that opens things up a bit.

What They Did Right
1. The presentation is ridiculous. Sure, the commentary can get a little repetitive, but you HAVE to compare it to other sports games that are out there. It's way more relevant than anything in Madden or NBA 2K. Also, it REALLY feels like an actual UFC show this year. When you download the card for UFC 114 and play through it, you'll see what I mean. You even get to see Mike Goldberg on the screen.

2. Lots of options and modes. I've seen some reviewers say that all the modes were basically the same, but I think they're nuts. Title Mode has its own feel from Career. And though I haven't played Title Defense mode yet, I hear it is significantly different from Title Mode. Then you've got the Ultimate Fights, Event Mode, Online Exhibition, Camps, etc. This is an insane amount of gameplay modes.

3. Ultimate Fights mode itself is a huge improvement from last year. The challenges are so much deeper now. You can choose to fight as either fighter, and each fighter has 9 total challenges for you to try to achieve. On top of that, there are simply more of these fights, so that mode alone should take a good amount of time to clear. Add to that you get intro videos for each fight featuring Arianny Celeste, and what's not to love???

4. I actually like the stand up game this year. It's quicker, more fluid, and yeah, some of the punches don't seem to connect like they did last year, but I think it's more of a sound effects thing. You don't hear that heavy smacking sound on every punch...which is actually more realistic and makes the game less arcadey. Striking is definitely more strategic though because your opponent has more options available to avoid your strike (blocking, moving, swaying, etc). Counter punching is huge.

5. They utilized the right stick properly. It makes sense for it to be the only option to execute/escape submissions. With some people having turbo controllers, it's not fair any other way. Also, some people feared this meant you have to rotate the stick to stuff a takedown...which is not true. You only have to hold back on the right stick. Your timing and takedown defense vs. your opponents takedown offense determines the rest.

There's probably more things for both areas, but that's all I can think of right now.

Yeah, counter, step punch, etc. I haven't done it yet, but I would bet the farm that's what they mean by "Flash KO". I just hope it doesn't become the new "submission of the night" trophy from 2009. Last year's game had an achievement for knocking a guy out in the first 20 seconds. It sounds like basically the same achievement, haha.

Also, Gary is sending out invites as we speak. So, you guys should be able to get into the camp soon. Actually, for the Trainer achievement, Matt, I'm starting to think I was wrong. It's just set up really funny in terms of the camp. When you look at the roster, it starts you off as a "trainee", and there is an option to go train somebody (though when you try it says that you have to level up first). So, maybe at first only Team Captains can train people, until you level up...then anybody can. But for the Camp Customization and stuff, it's very specific about "Only the Team Captain and Trainer can access these features". So, who knows. Maybe it's a hierarchy? lol

Oh, wow. You can just assign it? haha. That's cool. Nah, I don't mind you being Team Captain. I don't think Trainers can send invites though, so I'll just have to keep you updated with who on CAG has this game so you can get them an invite.
