Purchased for PS3.

Die-hard Rock Band guy but this is a cheap excuse to use the instruments more.

Thanks OP.

I'm expecting more of the same from both Rock Band 3 and GH Warriors of Rock. They've run their course, and no matter how many new features they throw in, "instrument games" are and have become a fad.

Speaking for myself (and I love Rock Band, and will buy Rock Band 3 when it drops in price), my instruments are collecting dust as I write this.

I was happy when I got the bundle for $40 after credit last year. Now it's like I paid $30 for the guitar. (Hangs head and shuffles off...)

At least Rock Band seems to be trying to go somewhere with the pro modes and keyboard. Guitar Hero likes to keep moving sideways instead of forward. But I guess they need to if Activision wants to flood the market and kill this type of game once and for all.

I guess if they want something new that will be a big success -- Porn Star Hero! :)

Nice, finally a price I'm willing to pay. Guitar Hero is pretty bad, but the demo for this one was decent, so it should be worth the $10.

Thanks OP.

Picked up the PS3 version, don't even have a PS3 yet. I'm "late to the party" guy. I've never played Guitar Hero before.

Where are some good, cheap Guitar Hero guitars?

I haven't researched low prices, but Ben's Bargains currently has the GHIII bundle new for $20 (I think it's $25 shipped). Might be a decent deal if you want GHIII.

This is definitely worth it at $10. I picked it up when it came out just to get a new guitar controller. It's not great, but you'll get your money's worth at this price. For maximum enjoyment, assign Johnny Cash to all four instruments.

I got this for $15 about a month ago and it really didn't impress me, doesn't really stand out from the others, its just OKAY, has a decent set list. It is A LOT better than guitar hero 4 though. My personal favorite is still guitar hero III for some reason.

Also, have fun with the 14 minute long Peter Frampton song.

I know Kmart had the World Tour boundles for $29.99 or less as well

I picked it a couple months ago in my gold box for 17 something when it and a bunch of the other music games were on sale. To be honest, I think this game is far and away the best one from a feature perspective. Where it falls down is in song selection. However, once you import songs from GH4 and Smash hits this is a pretty good game.

The challenge features in each song are gamey but add longevity and incentive to try instruments you don't normally use. Getting guests in and out of multiplayer is easier than in any of the rhythm games, and the new very easy mode for my little ones is as good as that in Lego Rock Band.

Does the game still give me the warm fuzzy feeling that the original GH did? No. However, for $10 this is a steal.

I don't have any links to the best place online to find them cheap, but if you have a Disc Replay they usually have a nice assortment for $5-$20 depending on which guitar you want and if you take any games bundled with it.

By far the best guitar controller I've found is the current GH5/Band Hero controller. There was a guy on ebay about a couple months ago selling multiple copies of Band Hero w/the guitar for 18 plus $6 shipping. The Band Hero setlist isn't that good but at the local game stores the guitar goes for around $20 by itself so it was a good enough deal for me. (When it arrived it was apparent how he could sell it so cheap as it looked like he bought Band Hero bundles on clearance somewhere and had stripped the drums out to sell separately.)

I know a lot of people swear by the GH3 guitar, but it was the worst one I ever owned and still dropped occasional notes even after I did the rubber band trick to secure the neck/body connection. The GH5 controller snaps tight and has been a great guitar so far.

Personally, I really liked the size and clickiness of the Frontman guitar and it can usually be had very cheap online. However, it is a pain to play with since the Sony firmware last year that broke a lot of USB peripherals. Since then, it a real hassle to get it to sync properly (usually a 5-10 minute process that only seems to work if I have it plugged into the 3rd or 4th USB port with ports 1 and 2 already taken). I don't know how much luck people with the newer 2 usb port PS3s have had getting it to work at all.

does anyone know if you can use the guitar hero 3 guitar for this game.? i have guitar hero 3 and played it a total of about 2 hrs but this track list is pretty good...

For those wondering about controller compatibility, there's a chart here: http://cdn.guitarhero.com/ghhub/gh_compatibility.pdf

Also, for those looking for cheap PS3 controllers, the Les Paul GH3 pack is available at many Big Lots locations. If you have one or more locally, check there. It goes for less than $20.

Does anyone know about the difficulty settings in this one? I found GH3 on PC and PS3 really difficult even on the easiest setting, but the "easy" difficulty on The Beatles Rock Band is just about my speed.

Just ordered a copy of GH5 and Pinball Hall of Fame for PS3 for $4.96 out of pocket after using some promo codes. :D

Thanks for the heads up, OP!

This seems like just about the right price for most music titles nowadays. I'd jump on it if I didn't already have it.

Thanks its good to know this will work with my rock band 1 drums and guitar hero 2 x-plorer. This is a good price at $10 even if its a fire sale. I was getting tired of Rockband 2 since I don't buy songs.

I got mine in the cart after 3 tries, then the price says $27.99?!?! WTF!:bomb:

IMHO this was the best guitar hero yet. It really opened things up and didn't restrict you to playing drums, vocals etc online if you didn't want to. You can jam with a four man lead guitar band if you wanted. Also, the achievements were not ridiculous like in all of the other games. I can only play on Hard/Medium and was able to 1000 this game with some effort.

Looks like the only version left is PS2 now.

If you think it's a fad, you should see what's Konami has done: 15 versions of nearly the same music game.
Wow that was quick. Looks like all that's left is the PS2 version.
They actually made GH5 for PS2? Unbelievable.

Sony still has an active PS2 consumer base which they support. It's better than telling an Xbox owner to screw off because you need to buy the 360 now.
You think Best Buy will price match?
Best Buy usually does not price match online retailers.

I think it's because it's very very easy for developers to port games to the ps2. This is why some games get a ps2 treatment but no wii treatment. So as long as it's easy and there's an installed base, why not.

There were some great games on the xbox but who the hell wants new games with xbox graphics? Not me. I don't care if microsoft dropped new game development for the old console. I can only imagine how shitty mass effect 2 would be on an original xbox. And really, if you're still stuck on the original, do you really need madden 11?
Best Buy usually does not price match online retailers.
It could be a YMMV. I overheard one Best Buy employee telling some customers that they'll match legitimate known online retailers. And an employee let me pricematch a Gamestop.com price.

But the thing about retail is that not everyone is on the same page (just ask CAGs who have been trying to take advantage of the K-Mart video game deals).
