I noticed we don't have a Fallout: New Vegas thread in the PS3 section, so I decided to rectify that by creating this thread, and maintaining it! :D
Stuff will be added here throughout the week... I'm just getting the ball rolling! :)

I am somewhat interested in this game, but only if it runs smoothly unlike Fallout 3. I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on that. And also if they are pissed that the 360 is getting exclusive DLC from what I hear.

But they only ever referenced the 360 version in all those articles, and specifically so. Now I will have to see if I can find anything about the PS3 version. Seems weird some of those gamebreaking glitches everyone reports yet the game is still getting glowing reviews...

I would wait for a patch fix first, and then wait for a Game of the Year edition. I loved Fallout 3 by the way.

Got my collector's edition from amazon this morning. The collector's edition is beautifully made. A sturdy outer box, the inside of which is velvet-like. The casino chips appear to be made out of metal and the cards are brilliantly crafted.

I've only played for about an hour and a half so far, but it seems awesome. It's basically Fallout 3 + some element of Fallout 2. You can now make medicine and stuff just like Fallout 2 (xander root + broc flower = healing powder for those of you who played Fallout 2). Runs smoothly so far, but then again I had very little problems with Fallout 3 (about 200 hours of gameplay and it only froze half a dozen times or so on me).

As for the 360 getting the DLC first, I was a little angry when that happened with the PS3 (although then, we didn't think it was coming to the PS3 at all). But now, I understand that it coming a year later is kind of a good thing since it will give me a nice break from the game and bring me back to it just as I'm itching for a Fallout 4 announcement.

This is why I rarely buy games day one. More often than not, new releases come out with bugs, which may or may not ruin the whole experience. I'd rather wait a few months and get a cheaper and less buggy yet still the same game.

Just came back from buying the game at Kmart. Once I get my strat guide in the mail (a couple of days, maybe), I'll probably start filling up the OP with more info and tips to use for the game. ;)

I just got this game from Kmart and looking forward to playing it. I really enjoyed Fallout 3 but never made it around to the DLC, so I don't care that XBOX is getting the DLC first I will probably play through this game quickly and trade it in to make money (paid $20 at Kmart). Then pick up the GOTY when it arrives next year.

I bought it from Kmart and it came w/a slipcover. Also talked to a friend who has played for about 5 hours and has not ran into any problems or glitches.
Did anyone who got this from Amazon or anywhere else have it come with a slipcover?
My Gamestop preorder copy has a slipcover.

I also got the CE guide, so I can try to answer any questions. I won't be able to actually play the game until the weekend, though.

I've played for 7-8 hours. For me, the game will often hang for a second while I'm walking around, but it's just a minor annoyance. I did have it freeze once and kick me out to the XMB which is the first time I've ever seen a game kick someone back to the XMB.

I played for almost 3 hours, the only real problem I had was where it will sort of freeze for a split second every 20 seconds while you're walking. I'm not pleased with that but I'm just saying it didn't crash or do anything severe.

I played for about an hour today... Didn't really do much, just named my character (His name is Machete... and yes, he's Mexican  ), and adjusted certain stats... I'm trying to get my speech, science, and lockpicking skills up early on.
I only ventured out into the Mojave Wasteland, and stopped for the night. Didn't really want to do anything until the strategy guide arrives. :)

I regret not working on my speech when making my character, it will come in handy A LOT !

All standard edition copies have a slipcover.

I don't like slipcovers that don't have any extra artwork/foil lettering vs. what's on the case cover. Just makes it annoying to take it over to get inside. This one has a little bit on the title, but nothing compared to the work someone like WB takes in the slipcovers for the DC Animated Movies for example. Or the case cover is different from the slipcover front like on Dante's Inferno, Red Dead Redemption special edition, or the Iron Man 1 Blu-Ray.

I have a name bug. If your name is less characters than the name Courier it will leave the remaining characters. So if your name is Stan it will add -ier to it and you will be Stanier.

It looks like what ever you type in last stays in the input screen I put in a mess of jumbled letters and now it adds what ever you typed into it adding a bunch of nonsense to my name. So now my name is something like (name)dsfjhnasdjcxzcceses.

I only have about 15hrs in but have not had any real issues except the random skip that others have. One thing I have noticed is that zones load a lot faster than FO3 this could be because I dont have 20 save files yet.

So, I'm currently about 23 hours in, and there is so much to do in this game. I constantly have at least 5 quests open.
I really like the challenges thing they added, and that some of them will give you perks when you finish them.

Did anyone get the CE at Best Buy? I know it was supposed to come with a DLC code in box but there are no stickers on the front like they usually do for games w/ pre-order bonuses.

Does anyone think the game is a little bit more difficult than Fallout 3? I've definitely died a lot more. And the weapons and items definitely seem to be quite a bit expensive. I have a missile launcher that sells for 2.5k caps...

It definitely is a bit harder to kill certain enemies due to the armor they wear sometimes. I know that you're able to make piercing bullets using a reloading bench, though I don't think I'm far enough into the game where I feel it necessary.

When I do have trouble killing someone, I tend to crouch (to increase accuracy) and shoot 'em in the head. ;)

There are some enemies that are pretty freaking difficult like those Cazadors or whatever. I'm level 19 and still a couple of those are able to take out both of my companions and force me to use a dozen stimpacks.

I'm really loving all the new variety in enemies and weapons that were put into this game.

Wow...only about an hour in....then it locked up when I tried to go into the General Store in the first town you are in. I think a 3 minute load wait was long enough (to see the score in the baseball & college football games). Quit the game at that point and it bounced the system trying to quit/stop the game.

I didn't have that problem. Stupid question, but did you erase what was there before typing in the new info?

If it were legal to marry a video game, I would have married Fallout 3. (No, I didn't even mind the dumbass ending. Sue me.) That said, FONV is (based on about two hours' play :)) better in every way.

I'm playing Hardcore/Normal, and most of the hardcore elements haven't really been a factor yet, but I almost got my ass eaten by Geckos in a side quest that wasn't even marked (what? you mean I can't just follow an arrow? I have to find the place MYSELF?:D) And I kept forgetting that Stimpacks wouldn't immediately heal me, so I'd shoot up, look at my hit points, oh shit, shoot up again, and then smack myself after realizing I just wasted a Stimpack.:bomb:

I climbed up on a rock and I could see New Vegas in the distance - what's the casino that looks like the Stratosphere? - that was a very cool moment.

I see from the guide that they've brought back the "stupid" dialog for a character with very low intelligence. I need to try that.

 Oh yes, I definitely did that. I even reset my auto complete dictionary in my PS3 settings. I tried googling it up to see if anyone else had the problem but didn't find anything about it. It's ok because my game froze up shortly after that and I haven't touch it since, but today I'm going to give it another try.

Is it just me or does Hardcore seem more like an annoyance rather than a challenge? I've only been playing for 3-4 hours so far and I've had to eat and drink maybe once the entire time. I thought you would have to do so multiple times during an entire day cycle, which in my eyes, seems pretty hardcore because you have to make sure to stock up on enough food to get through a couple hours of the game. To be honest I have too much damn food in my inventory.

I was really excited about this mode but it seems all it really did was add 3 extra RAD meters.. and as for the weight of ammo, it hasn't really become a problem yet since I'm only focusing on non-energy weapons. Healing over time hasn't been a real struggle either, you just have to know when to pop that first stimpack.

Who knows, I'm sure it's harder to deal with later. Just comes off as a chore rather than a challenge. And minus all the bugs it really is a pretty fun game. Hopefully another 100+ hours of joy like 3 was.

My name is Josh, not Joshier.
FYI, infinite exp glitch found due to a conversation loop:

Figured you console users might find it useful, since we PC gamers can just enter a command for 1000000000 exp. ;)
I don't understand the point. I think that would take a lot of fun out of the game.

It's an easy way to experience level capped characters with different builds IMO. Some people might never try a melee build or otherwise since it takes time to level them up. Plus, it's one way to try out different specs or point allocation since Fallout has no way of re-specializing.

So, I've finished the get 10,000 damage with guns and energy weapons so far. I'm about half way to getting it with explosives, but I'm annoyed at how difficult it is to come across ammo for the grenade rifle/launcher.

I got killed by a TON of Feral Ghouls chasing me at
the Old Nuclear Test Site
. Don't venture there without plenty of RadAway and Stimpaks!
One hour in and the game froze and I had to restart my console; this is not looking good...
That's happened to me twice now. It always seems to happen on long hikes too which is very aggravating.

I'm 45 hours in. I got the trophies for guns/energy weapons/explosives. I'm at 8700 damage with unarmed by pure accident. I was exploring a vault full of rats and mantises and I didn't feel like wasting bullets on them, so I took out a power fist. I destroyed them all 1 hit with a 20 unarmed skilled and got the damage counts up to around 7000.

There are almost too many side quests in this game. I did everything there was to do in Fallout 3, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do that here.

Also, even with half the perks, I still find myself unable to decide on a useful perk often.

Glitch #2: Somehow I got stuck in a rock... Luckily I saved just before; So far I'm having a lot of fun with the game but when you have to play it in fear that it could glitch out at any second it really takes you out of the experience. We should put I poll in this thread to see how many people are playing in hardcore mode. Oh yeah and the dinosaur building from pee wees big adventure is awesome.

What is your recommendation on the game at this point, ChibiJosh? I loved Fallout 3, but didn't jump right in on this one right away.
