Ys: The Oath In Felghana

Chuplayer

CAGiversary!
The other obligatory Ys topic. I'm not an old-school Ys fan, so I don't have much to say right now, but I just had to come here and say that this game absolutely rules! I've played it so much over the past couple days. Totally worth the asking price.

I'm kind of interested, but sounds too difficult for me. I'll wait for a DotD or a used price drop.

Deuce from Neo-Geo.com did most of the translation.

I'm playing it on easy, only had to drop the difficulty once during one particularly lame boss battle, and I wish I started it on normal. It's really good, and every other boss except for that one is really good, too.

Wait, you can adjust the difficulty in the middle of the game? Or is it like Ys 7 where you have to restart the game to play on a new difficulty?

I'm pretty sure you can't adjust the difficulty on the fly. I never tried it, so I can't confirm or deny.

However, if you lose three times at a boss fight, it gives you the option of lowering the difficulty level on your next try against the boss. Since I only needed this once, and I've been plowing through the game at a difficulty a bit less difficult than I know I could handle, I may immediately play the game again after beating it the first time and play it on normal this time.
It has easy difficulty? I might try this after all when I have nothing else to play.
Yeah, it goes down to very easy. I believe it went up to very hard, but I also believe that another, harder difficulty unlocks after you beat the game. Inferno, or something.

I'll have to get this at some point. Probably save up and buy this, Y's 7, and Y's I and II when those are out on PSP all at once.

That's helpful at least. Ys 7 didn't have that.

I just played a bunch more tonight. It's balls-tighteningly good. GOTY 2010 if people would get their heads out of their asses and give this PSP masterpiece a chance. I hope Falcom remakes this game as a big budget HD adventure because that is the only way this game could get any better. Same camera angles and everything. Just give it a visual overhaul. That is my only complaint about the game. It rules so hard.
I would give this game a chance if Ys 7 wasn't such a disappointment.
You're really missing out.
Did you like Ys 7?
Haven't even played it yet. I might hit up that game after I play a Super Famicom fan translation of Ys 4 and the PS2 Ys 6 that got released by Konami. I don't think Ys 5 has been translated in any form yet.

Seriously. I just beat Oath in Felghana. It ruled so damn much. I'm not even an old school Ys fan. It wasn't until just a couple months ago that I played the first one (two, whatever) on Virtual Console and became an instant Ys convert. I just really like Oath in Felghana.

Do you like video games? Get this game.

Do you like good video games? Get this game.

Do you like extremely good video games? Get this game.

Do you like fantastic video games? Why are you still reading this? Go buy this game at full price right now because this game deserves it.

The whole game is magical. Every encounter and every challenge is something special. And because of that, when the game comes full circle at the end, it does something that would be a chore in any other game but is a pleasure and a privilege in this one. I don't want to spoil it. It's just really emotional. It's a little thing, but the art in the game does a good job of mimicking life.

I don't mean to gush about the game like an obsessed fanboy, but I just have to give the game its due. It deserves a round of applause :applause:

Let me know what you think about Ys 7. It was a huge disappointment to me and I am wondering how it compares to Oath.

I would pick this up but I didn't like 7 and it seems like every time I listen to the internets about a game against my gut feeling, I end up getting burned badly (like with Ys 7 ).

You may have to wait a while for me to start Ys 7, and while you're waiting for that, you can get busy figuring out ways to hate yourself for not getting Oath in Felghana sooner ;)

I already have Ys 7. I just haven't played it yet. It's only a matter of time.

I loved Ys7, and it made me sad that I missed out on Ark of Napisthim. I want Felghana, but I don't have the funds for it, yet. Eventually!

Sell blood.

This has been my first Y's title. I am reviewing it, but just cant find the time to finish it. I like the visuals, and the dialogue is pretty funny and pokes fun at the genre a bit.

Just an FYI...

This game is awesome!!!!

This is my first Y's game and it does not disappoint at all. I have put about 9 hours in so far on medium difficulty and im at the final boss and just cant beat him even if I lower the difficulty need to go back and grind some more levels up.

Buy this game you will not be disappointed if you like rpgs! There is also tons of replay that I can see after I conquer this masterpiece.

+1 for GOTY for PSP.

I just started this last night and I am REALLY enjoying it. Makes me regret all the more not grabbing Ys Seven LE for $30 when I had the chance! I am working on another game(in addition to Professor Layton with my wife)and a book, but when I finish them I plan on cruising through this since I am loving what I played so far!
I've heard reports saying this game is very difficult.
There are difficulty levels and when you die a few times in the same area or to the same boss you can lower the difficulty a notch. It's definitely one of the more difficult Ys games.

Unfortunately I can't speak on the lower difficulties, but normal is fairly challenging. Normal enemies can sometimes be a bit too much if they become an unruly mob and there are no ways to block or quick dodge. Bosses on the other hand are all about finding out the right strategy to beat them and you'll likely die a number of times trying to figure that out. There's only been one or two bosses so far for me that I beat on the first try which was pretty amusing. I'm at the last boss now but have only been playing bits and pieces of it here and there otherwise I'd likely have beaten it by now.

Definitely a fun game in my opinion, but I'm using it more for a pickup and play for a short but while using the PSP's sleep mode in between sessions. If you're not terrible at figuring out the correct strategy, have some decent reflexes and don't mind dieing a lot them you'll more than likely enjoy the game.

Ok, I am playing Ys 7 now, and absolutely loving it. I want to buy this game next, but I have a question: is the CD in the Limited Edition version the same CD as the Ys 7 Limited Edition? I really love the CD, it has like 24 songs or so, and I am hoping that the CD of the Oath in Felghana are brand new songs.

EDIT: Picked up the game tonight and the CD contains 23 different songs from Ys Seven LE.

Beat Felghana last night. The boss was tough the first time, but once I upgraded the armor all the way to max, it wasn't too bad. Some of the other bosses were definitely harder than the final boss.
