Sorry but I am so sick of this Gamestop bullshit. You don't like their policies? Don't shop there. Them refusing your business is pretty much the goal you were trying for (as far as I can tell from your story). Get a Gamefly account if you want to play a game for a day and return it. And yes, I do work at Gamestop.

EDIT: We had a customer actually tell my manager to shut his mouth and that if he ever saw him outside of the store he would slap him in the face, all because we were sold out of a game the day after Christmas. Working in retail for over 7 years, I am so sick of the entitlement customers like you think they have. So thank you for telling us your story. I've been wanting to vent like that for 7 years.

You work in a tough store, brother. I used to live in Santa Maria, shithole town, and many of the residents aren't much better. I can imagine the kind of crap you deal with working at that gamestop over there, plus it's the only one in town.

Luckily for me I live in Austin now, there are like 20 Gamestops here, so when I have a bad experience at one, I just don't return.

Gamestop isn't Blockbuster. You shouldn't buy buy games unless you have the full intention of keeping them after playing them.

What could anyone possibly use the 7 day policy for that couldn't be considering "renting"?

1. I have 2 systems and a friend was coming over so I "rented" a second copy
2. Bought random game before checking if it sucks or not. It definitely sucked
3. "Rented" a game that only took 4 hours to beat.

It's nay impossible to actually come up with a scenario that would be considered legit.

Those are perfectly legit scenarios and usage of Gamestop's policy. I imagine the critical difference between you and the OP is that you didn't do it enough times to get blacklisted in Gamestop's computer system.

I don't do it all, but that really wasn't the point I was trying to make mind you. You could say there are legit uses of the policy in question, but my challenge was to come up with one that actually make sense.

Besides a double gifting, i really can't foresee any :-/

Gamestop is setting the policy not the customers. It's part of their plan to make money. As long as you are playing by the rules they have set, you're good.

The can always change the rules or "fire" customers they deem unprofitable. Just as customers can choose to take advantage of their policies or shop somewhere else.

The issue isn't a "legit use of the policy," but rather an "abuse of the policy." An example off the top of my head: the "take a penny, leave a penny" tray. It's there for people who are just a little off from exact change, or maybe don't feel like holding onto small change. But it you're like the OP and repeatedly empty the tray into your pocket, the clerks are going to get angry.

GS has the policy so that legitimate customers can buy a used game, take it home, and if they don't like it, return it. If you're "buying" the game, knowing full well that you're just gonna return it, you're using the place as a free rental service, which it isn't. It's all in the intention. It's also about how many times you do it. The OP has obviously abused the policy to hell, which is why the manager cut him off.

It's customers like these that will make Gamestop start a restocking fee like Best Buy does now.

Thank you.

I don't get why anybody is taking the manager's side. Basically the guy was being a dick. It sounds to me like he only returns a small minority of games. Gamestop has that return policy to ensure that customers feel secure in buying games. If you don't like it you can return it. If they don't want his business, they can just say so, no need to be a dick about it. Here's the question: what advantage is there to buying at gamestop if you can't return it? Might as well just buy online if you have to be 100 percent sure. So fine. Gamestop loses business. How exactly are they still in business anyway? They have sh1t prices, sh1t customer service, pushy salespeople, small selection, always out of stock. Why even bother? And with a dick manager there it's no wonder this guy decided to tell him off and take his business elsewhere. I did that a LONG time ago.

If you cut through all of your Gamestop hate and look at some of the posts it looks like the OP actually has a history of return abuse. That's at least what I got out of the thread.

Eek...what was the point of this thread? You sound like an asshole, a terrible businessman (if you're constantly trading in games, you do get that you are going from virginal butthole to pornstar butthole the more you do it, right?) I'm not a fan of Gamestop, but occassionally you can get good deals there, but it sounds like you are trying to exploit the return system. If you think it's unfair, buy your games on craigslist, then throw a fit when the guy who sold to you says: "give me my Fucking game, and go Fuck yourself"

It can't be too late to have that category created.

And to the thread. I highly doubt he decided to just single you out at random. You had to have done something, and he even let you return that one. Be happy with that. To think that you could abuse the system forever is stupid. And I highly doubt he's going to lose any sleep over this. If anything, he'll probably laugh at you when talking with people that work there. I know when somebody flips there lid, it makes for a good story more often than not.

Why would Gamestop give a crap? All they do is sell opened games anyway. I don't shop at Gamestop and haven't for years, but I know the few times I've gone in for a game I can't find anywhere they have to grab one of the open cases off the wall. Which I've come to believe is just their used game (sold at new prices) storage area. But that's neither here nor there. We all know their customary practices which apparently droves of people don't care about.

I guess I just find it ironic that a company who deceptively sells used and opened games at new prices, which are always the "last one we have in stock", would refuse a customer who is returning games within the companies guidelines.

Again, if you're returning a bunch of games, aren't these just more open games they can put on the display wall and sell at new prices? You're basically opening the game for them and saving them time. And they can make $60 every time they sell it.

I gotta give it to Gamestop, they are one scumbag company, but they are geniuses to take advantage of all the window licking consumers who don't understand how to make a company treat them fairly. Maybe the Gamestop employees could come over to your houses and play the games for you too while you hunch in a corner and chew on some nickels.

They have to gut at least one game in order to have a shelf copy for display. They do not sell used games as new. If it comes down to getting a gut copy, it's comparable to when companies sell floor model products, take it or leave it. You have the choice to go elsewhere or your product. But don't get butt hurt about it and make ignorant statements, because you just seem liked a jackass spewing uninformed information. You and the OP should hang out, you seem like you'd get along.

Someone actually looked back at the OP's post history and found one in which he admits he already got the ban hammer from a GS for returning games.

The guy certainly sounds like a dick, and I know exactly the type you mean. Still, you have to learn how to stand up for yourself without cursing or otherwise stooping to his level. Smile, stay cool and speak firmly. Never hurts to learn the name of his boss or district manager and drop it into the conversation.
