ORIGINAL:
Hello folks, last year I had a thread to help rearrange my backlog into a bit more fun of an experience. I really enjoyed the results of the thread and decided to give it another go. I'll put all my games (under spoiler, by system) down at the bottom, and you can just reply with whatever games you want me to play. Whatever you want to contribute is totally cool with me, if you want to go through the whole thing or just give me a top 5 or anything will help. I know that some of you are going to tell me to get rid of some of the games, and trust me I'm already trying to trim my backlog down from 131 games to around 95. My CAG anniversary is the 14th, so I'll compile the results then and start my new year off with my new backlog. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

A little back story if you need it. First off I was too lazy to take the prices I paid out since I copied all this from my backlog post. Secondly, I only bought 2 games last year. Halo: Reach and Super Mario All-Stars. The reason I did this is because after joining CAG in Jan of 2009, I basically bought every $10 (and a few more expensive) game that I came across and before I knew it I had a backlog of ridiculous proportions. Running out of money also happened, but still. So after not really playing any new good 2010 games, I decided that I'm going to rearrange/trim down the backlog and then let my self buy some games that I can play with my friends. Hopefully this works out well. Thanks again for the help.

Of those games, I'd say the ones that you should play first are:

Bioshock
Braid
Arkham Asylum

And personally I'd recommend (but they aren't acclaimed quite as high as the first 3):
Dead Space
Costume Quest
Pac-man CE DX

Just me but I would pick out about 5-10 games you want to play and sell the rest. That could be a decent amount of money for something that you really want or need.

and honestly the only games I would bust out are The Club for the 360 and Metroid Prime Trilogy. I don't have a PS3. I only play stuff that interests me though so I am not the best judge of what to play.

That is just me though. I never have any amount of games at the house. Maybe 4 at a time. For 99% of games the ONLY place the price is going is down. Why buy and hang on?

My suggestions:

Wii
MPT, I really liked MP3 and with 1&2 having the some control scheme, easily top of the Wii list
Punch-Out was supposed to be fun as well

PS3
bioshock
dead space
Dark Sector
Batman
Uncharted
PacMan
GTA
GOW 2

The PS1 games won't age any differently and you seem to have some long RPGs on that list. Hold off until you get your back log a little lower.

Xbox360
Shadow Complex
Mirrors Edge
Beautiful Katamari
Mass Effect
Crackdown

Rest - KH2, SW Battlefront (I don't know your hand held systems)

Good luck and I should make this same thread for myself since I have a backlog that is sadly a bit bigger than yours.

For 360:
Dead Rising
Halo Wars (Collector's Edition)
The Orange Box (Full Price) [Need to Beat Episode 1+2]
Mercenaries 2 ($9.99 at Best Buy)
Gears of War 2 (Xmas 08) [Need to beat the Deleted Scene]
Mass Effect ($9.98 at Toys R Us) [Need to beat Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station DLC]
Left 4 Dead 2 ($34.99 at Best Buy) [Need to beat The Sacrifice DLC]

For PS3:
Assassin's Creed ($11.98 at Radio Shack)
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed ($14.99 at Gamecrazy)
Bioshock ($9.97 at Sears)
Dead Space ($14.98 at Target)
Call of Duty 3 (Free with Quake Wars. Don't ever buy Quake wars)
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin ($19.99 at Gamestop)
Wolfenstein 3D (Full Price)
Dragon Age: Origins (Xmas 09) [Need to beat Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, and Awakening DLC]
Fallout 3 (Gift)
Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Collection (Xmas 10)
Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year (Xmas 10)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (Xmas 10)

Those are the ones that I've played and liked or heard good things about. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games this gen, so I would say start there. Batman, GTA IV, Gears 2, L4D2, Dead Rising, and Mass Effect are all really good. Personally, I really enjoyed Mercs 2, even though lots of people didn't like it.

I'm sure it won't effect anyone's judgment, but I decided to take :ps2: Buzz: The Mega Quiz out of the running for my new backlog. Also a free bump to see if there are any more helpers out there.

I'd say for starters get rid of basically everything from previous gens with the exception of maybe one or two games. IMO you don't have some of the "ultimate legendary" titles so not really worth the effort.

Save the portable games for when you go on a trip, again there don't seem to be that many superstar titles there either.

Then just start distilling the rest down to the very best and just play those. Like Doritos crash course? C'mon its likely not worth the time especially when you have the likes of bioshock or mass effect competing with it.

I concur with the previous poster that selling lots of the surplus titles is a good strategy. It will cut down on the backlog and hopefully net some cash in return.

I guess this should be a lesson to all that just because it's cheap doesn't mean its a good buy. :)

Shadow Complex (800 points on XBLA)--great game and short.

Prince of Persia ($14.98 at Target)--easy game and not that long

The Orange Box (Full Price) [Need to Beat Episode 1+2]--knock these out as they're great and pretty short.

Gears of War 2 (Xmas 08) [Need to beat the Deleted Scene]--that's like an hour. A couple if you want to do it multiple times to get all the achievements.

Mass Effect ($9.98 at Toys R Us) [Need to beat Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station DLC]--BTSK is great and pretty short. I didn't bother with Pinnacle Station, not really story related so I'd just skip that one.

I only went through the 360 ones, as that's all I game on.

Agree with the above post. Ditch all the prior gen stuff. You're never going to get around to that stuff with such a big current gen backlog.

Also agree to ditch the portable stuff unless you travel a lot. Why waste time gaming on tiny screens when you have a huge backlog of games to play on the TV.

And I cut all the Rock Band/GH games as those are just huge time sinks. At most, pay to import the Rockband songs into the newest version and then ditch everything else. No need to have so many of those games around.

Agreed. Played this last year and it's awesome.

Also, you can get rid of Wii Fit and just stick to Wii Fit Plus, which is the same game with more activities added on.

First off, I love this idea and may have to steal it. I'm constantly looking at my backlog and considering what I should play next and using it as a deterrent to buying new titles until I've gone through them.

Secondly, I have to disagree with the "last gen" tossers. Not only for appreciation of what games paved the way, but there are also some good titles. I think I had more fun with Star Wars Battlefront than some of it's next gen equivalents. I see you have a lot of RPG's and I will (unsurprisingly) recommend FFV and FFVI especially. Solid, compelling story telling, a good battle system, and interesting characters need to shine.

I was trying to keep a balance of games around. Want to get in quick beat-down? Soul Calibur IV. Action-Adventure? Batman: Arkham Asylum. RPG: FF VI, (VIII....I don't know. The draw system....) Bioshock is a must play. Crackdown is good for quick fun. I think the original Dead Rising was under-rated and fun for zombie smashing.

another way to choose is the fortune cookie on the backloggery. if you use that site, you can let it randomly choose what game to play next, you can leave all systems checked off, or pick and choose which to pool from.
