Also big shoutouts to option.iv for giving me the idea with the wonderful work he does on the PS3 Fighting Game Matchmaking Thread. A lot of the ideas come from his thread.

GGs last night to Guardian, Shinobi, asianxcore, bs, and Kensei. I need to get better at Marvel. I don't know if it'll matter that much since everyone is going to be playing AE in a couple of weeks anyways :whistle2:#

Good thread idea, Tom. And good games last night to you and Kensei, asianxcore, Shinobi, and bs.

It's worth practicing Marvel still. It's not going anywhere, especially with Super Marvel coming out. It's going to be a cornerstone of the fighting game community for years to come.

As for the thread, you could list CAG names/Gamertags, and list the games that each of them has in a spreadsheet maybe. I'm not sure if there'd be enough interest in something like that, but it's an option.

We can probably do something with like a Google document. For now I'll just list everything in the thread, so if you wanna start listing games, etc.
Hah, tom and I are from the same city and we've never even played together online.
Haha, seriously? That's insane. For some reason I thought you were from South FL. We'll definitely have to play sometime.

AlphaPanda - Happy Accident
Games: Mortal Kombat, Marvel VS Capcom 3

I've always talked about hopping into a lobby with you fellas at some point, but every time bs000 has sent me an invite, it's literally right as I'm about to head to bed. That's happened about 5 times so far.

To be honest, I'm a bit intimidated about playing in a lobby with ya. Mostly because I'm pretty terrible at fighters and with not having a stick and whatnot, I just get the feeling I'd ruin the fun for you guys. Perhaps I'm just overanalyzing, and practice makes perfect, it's just one of those things.

I think you're overanalyzing a bit. People drop in and out of our lobbies all the time. It's no big deal, and playing against others is never a waste of time. Maybe you'll have a trick we've never seen before and vice versa. Like I've said before, you don't have to worry about offending anyone. Just play and have fun. We pretty much always play some fighting game on Wednesday nights, so just plan to put away the CoD or Halo for one day. :p

GuardianE - GuardianE9999
Games Played: Marvel vs Capcom 3, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Blazblue: Continuum Shift, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, Tekken 6, Dead or Alive 4, Soul Calibur 4, Virtua Fighter 4

Thread was locked, but now it's unlocked...hmph.

A fluke, or can we continue this whole thing? I think this thread's more productive than the other one.

...that's probably why it was unlocked.

Touché.

Anyway, now that Mortal Kombat has been out for a month or so, who's your favorite character? I've been starting to really like Reptile, personally.

There was a slight misunderstanding but it's been resolved.

As for being intimidated, everyone is friendly. We're all here for the same reason - to have fun and get better.

EDIT: Added a Spreadsheet to keep track of all the member info. See OP.

Went ahead and added myself, dudes. Hopefully connections will be smooth with most of us being on the East Coast.
Been meaning to try to hop on with some CAGs. I got a tournament to get ready for.
I see Guardian finally upgraded to VF5 :)
I've had it for forever, but I'm sooooo terrible at it. I have no idea what I'm doing. If you want to school me sometime, let me know!

Question for the spreadsheet, how do you return/enter within a cell? I have alot of fighting games I want to add, and want to make it look like Guardian's and Tom's but I can't.

Thx

Fixed it for you. You just had to put spaces between the comma & next game & it automatically expands the cell. Otherwise it thinks it's one big long string of text.

Just filled out that Google Spreadsheet. A bit hesitant to play against the regulars since I'm still learning at a casual pace, but I'll give it a shot when I have the time.
So wait - people play Battle Fantasia? Is it anygood?
I have it, and played it a little bit with Shinobi for a few hours way back when. Nothing extensive, and I have very little idea of what I'm doing. Very few people had it so there was little motivation to learn. It's an Arc system works game, though, and is pretty important to the genre. For starters, it helped to solidify for Capcom the notion that a 2.5D fighting game could work, paving the way for SFIV. Also, the story mode is similar in format to that of BlazBlue.

If others decided to play it, I wouldn't mind popping it in.

Let's organize some BF/BBCS nights please. I bought Valk/Makoto dlc when they were on sale and I got the new Platinum dlc yesterday as well. Looking for any excuse to get good at BB now. I can only hope there won't be a big update soon so my time invested with a character won't get flushed down the toilet too soon. Guardian/Shinobi/Tom hit me up if you want to body a fool.

I'd say let's get a BBCS session this week then. I was talking with Kracka McKracka (fatboyjam) and I know he's interested in picking it up as well. I don't think you have to worry about another patch for a while since the one that hit a few weeks ago was pretty major and I don't think there have been any arcade patches since BBCSII came out.

Just over a week until AE. Get hype!

I think I'm in the mood to play some BBCS tonight if anyone wants to get an early start. I'll probably be playing some Mortal Kombat or MvC, but send me a message and I'll switch games. :)

GGs to Guardian today in MVC3. I'm thinking of dropping Doom because I just don't feel comfortable enough with him. He's just too awkward. I played with Jimbo Sunday and he said Doom is probably my weak link right now.

My replacement options right now are Akuma (which is what I was testing today), Dante (Weasel shot), or Iron Man (Unibeam). I'm basically looking for someone who has an assist that can extend the other character's ground combos and also create openings. I'm afraid I'm going to have the same problems with Iron Man that I did with Doom, and I don't think he's a viable anchor.

TL;DR. I can't wrap my head around Marvel but I can't quit it either :wall:.

Well, I'm generally against having an assist only character on a team. Not to say it's a bad strategy (see Tron), but you shouldn't feel helpless when a character gets snapped in. You should probably either practice a lot to get more comfortable with Doom or pick another guy to even out the ranks.

The biggest issue I noticed you have is taking advantage of your approach options and knowing when to call assists. This is really the same issue that Gootecks has on Marvelous Adventures. Wolverine is so mobile that you should be either dashing in with an attack or putting me in a blockstring as Doom comes out with Plasma Beam. That's really the ideal situation because you can basically do whatever mixup you want on approach when I'm locked in. If Wolverine (or any point character) is crouching and doing nothing, but not in blockstun? You're doing something wrong. You should be pretty much constantly moving.

Ultimately, I'm a big proponent of picking a character you have an affinity for and making them work for you, unlike the other way around. If you like Doom, you can learn Doom. Iron Man's options are limited, but he still has plenty to work with at the level we're playing at. I really believe that every character is viable in this game right now (perhaps more gimmicky in some cases). The ONLY condition for a team is that you have OTG/DHC options... but you already have those with both Wesker AND Wolverine. Is a beam approach option assist great for a team? Yes. But I don't really have one on my main team (Dante's Weasel Shot has limited applicability and mostly works in cross-up situations), and I do okay for now. I think it ultimately depends on your gameplan, and what strengths you want to enhance with your assists.

Even taking a look at your current team with Wolverine and Wesker. Doom's probably your weakest link, I agree, but are you fully comfortable with Wolverine and Wesker? And also, they're both very strong characters, but do they complement each other as well as other possible combinations? Honestly, Wolverine and Akuma are pretty much BFFs right now in MvC3, as they work together perfectly. Maybe start using those two and adding a third character that can mix things up. Maybe Haggar with lariat assist for offensive shutdown. You'll never know what works until you try.

I really think that you'll start getting stronger in the game if you focus on a few characters and their team dynamics in training mode. If you keep switching teams, you will only touch the surface of what your team is capable of, and you'll never be fully comfortable. Unless you're using Wolverine. Everyone's comfortable with Wolverine. Just take some time in training mode to get comfy with approach options and how your character moves.

I hope there was something that made sense in that rambling block of text.

EDIT: Eh, I hope that didn't come off as too preachy. I didn't mean it to be. Just my initial impressions.

I agree that you should be strong with all 3 of your characters. I used Haggar for a while but once your other teammates are down he's pretty useless. Akuma is a great assist and one of the best anchors in the game. I suggest trying some other characters and look for good DHC options. Team synergy is very important in this game.

Peeps should play vanilla SFIV with me, imbaness is so fun. Also, everyone playing now bought this game because like "lol 10 bucks sweet" and they never block.

I get everything you're saying Guardian. I think the reason I'm wanting to drop Doom is because I largely picked him up for the assist. He's a really solid character, but he just doesn't fit for me. I'm not very mobile with him and I can't Doom loop consistently. Like Kensei is saying, when it's down to Doom I just don't feel like I can do anything.

As far as mobility and rushing in, I do feel the most comfortable with Wolverine. I'm not quite there with Wesker yet as I feel I can do better with his mixups. Part of the reason I was leaning towards Akuma as a 3rd is he helps both characters, his tatsu assist can perform a similar function to what I was using Doom's beam for (cross-ups, make strings safe, pressure, etc.) with the added benefit of being able to extent combos for the other character. He can also do decent damage without the help of an assist, and most times when it's down to him - he has a decent amount of meter and has lots of ways to efficiently use it.

The only other option I'm considering is keeping the Wolv/Akuma pair and possibly putting Taskmaster in the middle. His horizontal arrow shot might be a better option to cover Wolverine getting in. I'll have to do some messing around in training to see what works.

GGs last night to Shinobi, Guardian, Kensei, Old Rasputin, & Sinfulfate. Both in Marvel & BBCS. I think the new team in MVC3 is working out a lot better. I still need some adjusting, and I might still fine-tune it a little bit.

The highlight of the night was every single trolling attempt leading to a guaranteed loss by that person - Guardian & I being the main offenders. I'm so pissed I didn't save that BlazBlue replay.

Muuuhahaaahaaa. It never happened. ;)

Good games to everyone last night.

Good games guys. I finally picked up the new BlazBlue. Don't know if it's a good idea learning another fighting game though. My Marvel play was so terrible yesterday after such a long lay off.

GGs to Action Kazimer earlier today. Great Tron, she's really a problem lol.

Only a few more days until SSF4AE, get hype!

Added myself to the list. I've been playing SSIV a lot recently in anticipation of AE, and I'm trying to work towards the C to Shining C achievement. I'm doing Makoto right now, but I fucking suck with her.

I also love Mortal Kombat and Marvel 3, and I have a ton of other fighting games as well. If you see me on and you want to play something, just shoot me a message!

GGs to you too, Tom! Definitely stoked to play more with you guys.

I pulled 9th at that tourney I went to. Awful, but not nearly as bad as I'd feared. Got cheesed to death by an Astral Vision Morrigan spamming soulfists.

Damnit Joe, you beat me to it.

Comes out this summer, which is a lot sooner than I expected. I'm pretty stoked because while I've played it, I never really learned 3rd Strike. Day 1 purchase for me.

I added 3rd Strike Online to the CAG Fighter directory.

So, SSF4AE session this Wednesday?

Prep patch is up for AE. It says AE is available to buy, but this is obviously not the case. Will prolly be waking up at 3 am est to start dling it.
is the lack of a psn logo meaningful? or am i overreacting?
I wouldn't worry. It's already been confirmed for PSN as well. The trailer that leaked was likely specifically for Microsoft's use.
