Is it worth playing...?

Bosnian_Lord

CAGiversary!
Edited part: So, if u have game, that you don't know is it worth playing or buying, because you read conflicting reviews, just ask your fellow CAG members on their opinions. ;)

Original post: Dark Void, I was thinking of buying it, and before doing that, I've been reading some conflicting reviews, so I came here to ask You guys, is it any good?

I'm pretty sure there's a demo available on XBL and PSN, I'd definitely start with that. I was excited for the game and was very disappointed.

I did play demo. but, I'm still undecided if it's worth playing the whole game. Demo didn't give me much.

Thx for the response ;)

Whenever anyone brings up this game I have to chuckle. A guy I used to know was fond of a site with that name which was filled with, according to another acquaintance, "dog dicks and necro porn".

This game is really bad. There are some good ideas in it like the flight combat but the controls are garbage and the execution on just about everything failed miserably. I would stay far away from this game if I were you.

I did not enjoy the game much... it became stale really quick for me.. and the sloppy mechanics really start the show.. it was so close to being a GOOD game.

Honestly man, you can get it for $8 dollars shipped on amazon right now... how big of a gamble could it really be for that price? I too have been debating it and I realized that even if its the worst garbage ever committed to disc (which, at 59 metacritic, that seems extreme), I could get at least half that money back at my local used game store.

its 3 dollars more than a crappy dvd from walmart and 2 dollars less than some hour long dlc on XBL. Hard to go THAT wrong at such a low price.

Then again... I could be wrong... *glares at Alien vs. Predator*

That is true, when the money part is concerned. But, in my case, it's not the money part (although, it's nice price at $8. I was thinking, that I would have to pay around $15.)... I was thinking, if I get it, to go for the Platinum trophy. And, I don't wanna spend 15-20 hours on a crappy game, that I want enjoy playing.

Bdw. I just checked Amazon, and Dark Void is $10.98 (free super saver shipping). I also ran on to "UFC 2009 Undisputed" for $9.50 (fsss).
Maybe, I'll just pickup UFC2009, instead. :) I'm pretty sure, Ill have fun playing that (newer owned UFC, only played demo's, and always enjoyed kicking my friends asses) . :D

Thx all for responses so far. :)

I got the platinum in like 8 hours... Its a fairly short game with a god awful story and less than desireable controls at times... but its not all bad. I paid 4 (rental) and overall I wasnt too disappointed. If you're looking for a slightly different shooter and dont mind it missing some polish go for it.

lulz at modern games being "15-20 hours" :p

UFC2009 is a solid game if you're into that stuff and a good deal at that price.

There's a ton of pretty good games on Amazon for super cheap right now, I need to snatch up a few more later on....

Also, to play Devil's advocate. Jeff over at Giant Bomb gave Dark Void a 3 out of 5 (which is a GOOD score according to their scale), as well as Gamespy. So yes there are quite a few complaints lodged against it (included in both reviews), but not all people think its garbage.
*disclaimer, I did just order dark void after reading this thread and seeing the reduced price*

Good time you got on your plat.
Last plat. I got it took me more than 30 hours of playing time. I would of played it for 100h if need it. The game in question is God of War 3. :D

I don't mind some polish missing in games. I'm not that picky.

Yeah, I know about the hours... But, it takes longer if ur going for trophies. Which I like to do. Prolongs the playing time. :)

I decided to pick up UFC2009. Since I newer played full game. I reckon It's worth the 9 bucks.

There sure is good games for nice prices on Amazon. I think last week, or week before that, I picked up Bioshock 2 and Borderlands (new both) for just over $20.

Yeah, there are some conflicting reviews. I've been reading the same ones.

I think, I'll buy Dark Void My self. It's 10 bucks. And if it sucks that much, I'll pass it up to My little cousin. He can play anything.

All I need now, is to find something for $5, so I can get free super saver shipping. :D

Any ideas?
I beat the game and I would only recommend it as a rental or very cheap purchase.
I'm afraid rental is not option for me, because I'm in States on vacation from Europe, and I left my PS3 back home, and back home, we don't have game rentals. Which sucks bdw.

So whenever I come to States, I try to stack on as much good/decent games as I can. I buy games here, because they are much cheaper than anywhere in Europe, especially my home country.

Taking your guys opinions in consideration, I'll pass on "Dark Void". But, in stead I'll picked up: "Street Fighter IV" - for $12.

TY guys for the help. :)

Is it okay if I edit thread name, to just say: "Is it worth playing?"

I was thinking to do this, because maybe somebody else is in the same pickle about some other game... i sure will need some more advice in the future on some games.

What do you think guys?

You already made your choice but I'll go ahead and throw in my opinion as well.

I had (high) interest in this before launch but didn't pick it up right away mostly due to the reviews. However, once the price tanked, I finally picked it up for about $12. Maybe it was my lowered expectations, or maybe for some reason it just clicked with me moreso than most, but I really found it enjoyable. I finished it the same weekend I received it, and enjoyed the heck out of it. Was it a great "AAA" title? Of course not. It did, however, have great voice acting and a unique concept: the inclusion of the jetpack. Sure, jetpacks have been around in games since the NES days, but no game has ever used it in such a way as this. It takes some getting used to the controls, but if you give it the proper amount of time to get used to it, the game really starts to shine. If you can look past the mediocre shooting and sub-par story, you've got a pretty decent(and unique) game on your hands. It's not what it was promised to be when in development, but certainly better that all of the hate that it undeservedly received.

As for your idea on changing the thread title, sounds like a good idea to me. I don't really know of such a thread on here and I think it'd be a good addition.

thanks for that. I just may change my mind since reading your post. :) It's still priced the same...

and thx for the thumbs up for the idea... :) I'll change it now.
check Sears, the 360 version is $4, the PS3 is $10 and dropping monthly.
Thx man for that. I should be going to Sears one of these days, so I'll check it out.

How about this game guys: "Bionic Commando"

This is the first time that I came in contact with this game, so I don't know anything about it. So I'm interested in your opinions. :)

It's $9.96 on Amazon, with free standard shipping.

You can probably get $10 of fun out of Bionic Commando, once you get out of the semi-invisible, deadly radioactive boundaries of the city and get the swing mechanics down there are some fairly enjoyable areas in the last 2/3rds of the game.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed 1 is on sale for PSN for $5 (remake of the original classic game), might be better off buying that.
Maybe. But, I don't have my PS3 with me (on vacation in States, from Europe, and didn't bring PS3).

I'll see what's the price of it, in Sears, and than I'll decide. To me it doesn't look that bad, from gameplays that i saw on YT.
