Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Edition) - $69.99 @ Best Buy

That's the best retail price I've seen for it before tax.

WBShop.com had a coupon deal that made it $68 after tax and shipping, so that price @ BB for retail is a pretty good one.

Is it 69.99 in store as well or just an online special? It might not be worth it to wait for tuesday to go into the store and find out it's 89.99 in store.

But yeah I got mine through borders for $67 after tax, but I might do this because you get the ring too...
I already did the WBShop.com offer.... but I may do this because of the preorder ring and $5 coupon...
Same here. Need to make up my mind quick though - didn't realize it was coming out next week!
moonphrogg, you're a moron. the theatrical editions were a huge step up from the DVDs, and now the EE's are going to look even better.
And yet, they could have been better had WB not applied that pesky DNR to smooth out the image.

ill keep my order from borders for $67, this would come out to $75 after tax at BB for me

good deal tho, you have to wonder if amazon will pm

Just ordered. No tax in OR, figured the price probably won't drop much more than this and if it does, not worth waiting much longer. Plus the ring is a nice throw-in.

Any word on a Costco price? I'd like to think they'd be fairly competitive. Also, how long until $70 or less is a routine price?

Damn, my WB order shipped today, as I was trying to cancel it. Would rather have had the ring than the portrait set. And in reality, I probably should have just waited and seen what the price on this will be on Black Friday or otherwise. Ah well, I'm a sucker.

i picked up my ring from my local BB today, am I locked in for $69.99 price?

Is the $69.99 price limited time? If the price drops on Sunday, will i get it for the lowest price?

Can i use the $5 off coupon next week when I go to pay for the rest and pick it up? Or should the coupon have been presented before hand?
I canceled my borders order for $66 and went with best buy for $75 + the one ring. Im such a consumer whore!
...And how! (hehe)

...but to be honest, you've only saved a dollar. Best Buy has the One Ring replica available to buy for $10. Personally, I'm planning on picking up the ring today and getting the set tax-free (I'm not in NY) on Tuesday from Amazon.

Also, @ DynamiteShikoku:

If you ordered from BB, you aren't going to get your price lowered... the sale price is $69.99 for release week. As for the $5 coupon, I don't know for certain whether or not you can use that coupon for a pre-order, but it's probably going to depend upon the employees/managers at your BB... just like any other BB coupon/offer. Otherwise I would guess that you can't cancel your pre-order unless you cough up the $10 for the ring.

Supremely disappointed to read that the split disc is back. Why oh why would I have to switch discs in the middle of this film on Blu is beyond me.

Oh well. $65 (with coupon) for the complete set is a good deal.

I'd rather have the disc swap in the middle of the movie, like it was with the DVD copies, and have the PQ and AQ look as good as they can make it.

I'm amazed why people feel the need to complain about taking a few minutes to swap discs, when it's what they had to do previously for the DVD versions.

Didn't say it was a new thing. I said it was back, re-read my post.

I complained about it back then and I'll do it now. It's not stopping me from picking up the set, you make it out like I'm saying it's a dealbreaker, it's not. Is it an annoyance? Yes. Didn't realize I couldn't say that.

Meh. Playing around with some video editing and audio and video codecs recently, I'm not completely convinced a single disc couldn't hold the Fellowship and possibly one disc for The Two Towers. I think they got lazy. But, it's no deal breaker for me.

However, the price could be. Do you guys really think this could drop lower later? It seems like $70 became the most recent price. I'm a fan of the movies, but not enough to mandate a day one purchase. I've got my cheaper Borders order still, but I could cancel it.

Also, we do have another thread on this BTW: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288931

By the time the disc switch is due, I'll be ready for a bathroom break anyway. I could see where it would be annoying to some, though.

That's only $5 more then I paid with the 50% off coupon with Borders. Pretty good deal.

Not really minding the disc swap either. With the extended cuts I only watch half the movie a night anyways. Every now and then I'll take an entire week and watch the extended trilogy. It's going to be really time consuming when The Hobbit comes out...

It's not healthy to sit for 4 hours straight without getting up anyway, so I honestly see no merit in complaints about the disc split.

I am concerned about the color timing issue on Fellowship, but the real reason I'm not buying this immediately is because I don't have $70 to spare on this right now. Hopefully it'll be on sale cheaper soon, and when I have the cash.

Yep. And having it all on one disc would probably have meant compressing the audio or video and thus lowering quality.

I tend to just watch 1 disc a night when watching the EEs anyway as I have a hard time finding a 3.5-4 hour block of free time anyway.

Disc swap = break to take a dump, get more food/drink, explain to your woman wtf is going on in the movie, etc. It's not the end of the world, particularly when these movies are so long.

Just picked my copy up, my best buy literally, the display case they had was completely empty, i was super shocked cause normally you don't see this happen a lot. Went to CS and showed them my receipt. Didn't use the $5 off coupon because well, it's just $5 bucks (to me it's just losing $5, to others a $5 is like $15 to them).

The box is GORGEOUS! Pressed imitation old book look and the cases are polished BLACK! SO COOL!!!!!!

I thought you had to buy the one ring separately. Probably too late to get it for free with purchase, huh?

If so, I'll stick with my Amazon order that showed up yesterday.

Well, the in the picture the box seems to imply its free when bought with the Blu Ray.

Does the ring look any good? I can't tell from the pictures, or it doesn't seem so great in the picture.

I decided to not order this for now and cancelled my Borders order. I can wait for a drop. No need for a day one purchase for me.

Definitely too late for the ring. I tried to find one yesterday, and they were gone. I think they remove pre-order stuff a few days before the item comes out. It was gone from the web site too.

Does anyone know if I can use the $5 off coupon on this set? And if so can I also use a giftcard that I have to pay for the rest? I tried figuring this out myself but am confused by the small print.

Is it actually going to be 120 and this is just a sale price that practically everyone is matching, or is this the "real" retail price. Just trying to figure out if I should jump on it now or wait for a lower sale price maybe near black friday.

You should be able to. It does say "markdowns taken from regular prices", but I was able to get Avatar for $15 ($20 on sale from $55) without a problem. The part about gift cards means you can't use the coupon to buy a gift card - you should still be able to apply a gift card toward paying for the movies.

I know it's kinda YMMV but this price with the 5$ coupon and the 10% coupon would make this a pretty fantastic deal. I used to have no problem stacking those kinds of things. Has that changed recently?

The ring is kind of meh. It's got some of the fake gold paint chipped off and the chain feels cheap. It is $10 of value, so I guess that's to be expected. I have it hanging off of my Gandalf statue as another novelty item to admire.

It was available for $4.99 on their website last night as well. I'm too lazy to check, but if someone is after one, there's another option.
