Been lurking forever and finally have something to contribute. For those of you that were burned by Best Buy's drop in trade-in values and have a Microcenter near you, here's a possible alternative. Microcenter has some trade in values advertised on their website and in the new sales paper. Notice the trade in value for Crysis 2. I've never personally traded there so if anyone has please post your experiences.

http://www.microcenter.com/storefronts/gaming/used.html

YMMV, as some stores do not have trade-in capabilities.
Stores without trade-ins: 'Twin Cities/St. Louis Park, MN', 'Beltway/Rockville, MD' [add more when discovered]

Current trade in values as of 11/29/11 from the CAG community (Thanks fortunado for compiling and editing list)

(11/29/11) - Added some new values today. I overheard someone say that all the games MC buys get shipped off to their buyer and then redistributed among the stores that lack certain titles. At my store they will take one copy per game, per console, per day, per person. So it may be possible to just spread trades of duplicate games out over the course of a few weeks.

(4/1/12) - RAGE Anarchy Edition not being accepted at some stores due to UPC being different from what they allow (even though it is the "better" version). YMMV on this if the employee will override.

To keep the wiki current, try to enter the date you obtained the value.

I gave up shopping there when I overheard a salesperson pitching $189 virus protection for a customer's new MacBook Pro.

That place is where computer parts go to die.
too bad you have to use the credit to shop at microcenter...
Yeah, nobody likes Ipads and and new games.

damn my microcenter is like 30 miles away. But $75 credit for Crysis 2, FEAR 3 and Dead Space 2....might have to make that trip.

I wouldn't buy games there but they have good prices occasionally such as the Intel i7 2600k was the cheapest anywhere (even after tax!) when I purchased it in early summer. Also, they have a wide variety of laptop & tablet pc cases.

I miss their trade any 9 games and get an extra 10 dollar promo they had 4 years ago.... I cleaned out a near by GS of their PS1/DC sports games that came up 10 cents-25 cents and traded it in for MC credit.... spent about 30 dollars in crap and got about 400 dollars in credit because of this promo.

I'm going to trade in Kirby's Epic Yarn today, so I'll try to remember to post a report afterwards. (The TIV is less than $20 at Amazon, and eBay prices are max of about $25 for used.)
I have yet to see MC's BF ad o_O
That's cause the last few years MC, hasn't had any good BF deals worth going early for.

I remember them having some pretty killer deals on HDTVs a couple of years back.

yeah...but a few years back they had some pretty good prices, now they are going up :(

I didn't even know they did trade in's. Has anyone done one there? How well do they scrutinize your games? Are they just like Gamestop -- check for scratches, if none, then ok?

fuck, I spent an entire hour there. The system kept crashing and eventually I just left. Apparently the system was down for other stores as well.

Okay, so I went to the store in Columbus, Ohio. They used to have a dedicated games section but a couple of months ago changed it over to "electronics", and now sell TVs and other stuff.

So, I go to the service desk and they know nothing about it... sales guys in the "elec." dept. know nothing about it, and claim that they used to do trade ins but don't anymore. I mention the ad, but they say not this location and they don't know any locations that do trade ins anymore. Go to the pick-up desk where repairs and service issues are handled, and one guy sort of remembers that they used to do it. Again, I point out the ad and they call a manager over. He is very nice about it, says he just found out about the ad himself and they really have no mechanism in place to take the trades. He acknowledges that it's their problem, though, because of the ad and decides to do my Kirby as a return "open box" and give me credit for $25. The clerk points out that they have no way to test the game, but they both look quickly and see that my game is complete, near mint (because we only played it twice before my 16-year-old son--who usually *loves* Kirby games--felt this was too childish).

So this actually doesn't take that long (15 minutes in the store tops), but I would definitely say it would be an adventure unless you call ahead of time to confirm they do this. I asked about TIV for other games, and no one knew so I'm lucky the ad had the price. In all, though, I walked out very happy... I got $26.69 credit (they gave me "back" the tax) and rather than put it on a merchandise return card the clerk agreed to put it back on my credit card. :)

Does anyone know if you need the game complete, with the manual and box? There's almost no information on the website. I might try to trade in Dead Space 2 this week regardless. It would be nice to know when the offer ends, too.

I know both the Microcenters in Northern and Southern California have dedicated gaming sections and they sell used games as far back as PlayStation 1 (though not many), so they should accept trade ins at those stores. I could have sworn I also read somewhere that they'll match all GameStop TIVs and beat them by a certain % or something like that. It could be worth someone's time to check to see if that policy still exists.

Most of the time their pricing is shit on games, but they usually have good items on clearance from time to time. That's mostly because I doubt many people shop there for games when theres a million other big box retailers in CA who have more competitive pricing, and there's even Fry's to compete with them for everything they sell in Microcenter. But I usually find myself making a couple of clearance purchases there every year.

The microcenter in Houston has a large dedicated gaming room, with its own employee, they have a huge wall of used games as well and lots of posters and stand ups everywhere. Really neat walking through there, they even have a section with nothing but gaming magazines.

wow such variation, best to call first... mine's about 45 min to hour away.

I wonder how many of the same title they would accept? Sucks because I passed up several DeadSpace 2 for 360 at BBV yesterday because they're just not worth anything anymore.

Yeap went there yesterday the guy Chris there took my black ops(ps3) for $23 and crysis 2 in under 10mins :))

What a cluster fuck, went back today, and the gamer guy was missing. They called for him 3 times and then just ignored me for 45 mins. Eventually I found someone who admitted he was on lunch break and wouldn't be back for 25 mins. They finally found someone else, who processed the trades fairly quickly, then couldn't print the receipt and futzed around for 20 mins trying to complete the transaction.

268$ in trades, and the stand out was brink which got 28$

Turns out the gamer guy wasn't even working, it was the idiot manager who tried to call the wrong cs person.

I had a great experience trading in at Microcenter today. The guy was really cool and got me TIVs for everything I asked about. I went in primarily to trade in two copies of Dead Space 2 but decided to bring in about 8 other games I had with me that I had picked up at BBV that were destined for Best Buy. When they rang up I was sold. Some values were better at BB but doing it all at once there was easier than making two stops for an extra $10 or so. He was surprised by the Two Worlds 2 value too.

:wii: Wii Party $15
:360: Two Worlds 2 $25
:wii: Monopoly Streets $18
:ps3: AC: Brotherhood $12
:360: Dead Space 2 $25
:360: Dragon Age 2 $20

Walked out with $160 in credit (for 8 games total, kept 2). Not sure what I'll get but I'm thinking wait until black friday and pick up a console or something.

WTF. Someone there must really love used games. Calling my local Microcenter now to see if they do trade in's. Thanks for these values!!

Are you talking about the one on Bethel? I was planning on heading to one today but if they won't take trade in's I may as well stay in.

Wow. I can't believe they gave me $28 for that p.o.s. game Brink. Gamestop was going to give me $4 a while back, so I held on to it for a "trade 3 get extra $10" deal. $28 is way better.

Just for everyone's FYI, they do not sell Kindle gift cards or any other gift cards (pre-paid MC, Visa, etc.).

They didn't even open up my case to check the disc or manual; just typed in the bar code, filled out some paperwork, and I was done.

Great TIVs. Now the dilemma is WTF do I do with all this Microcenter credit.

Got the $25 for LA Noire today at the MC near San Jose. Took them about 30 minutes to figure out how to do the trade though. Turned out that it was locked to one of the worker's accounts and no one else had access to it. Not a very good way of doing things. But it all worked out.

Just a tip for those that don't want to buy anything just yet the voucher they gave me had an expiration date but you could use it to get a store gift card that doesn't expire.

Thanks OP.

Yes, Bethel Rd. is the only one in Columbus now. It seems that they took out the dedicated game "desk/counter" during the remodel, and now have no one designated to do trade ins. Everyone was pretty much clueless, and even the manager said they'll have to work on it (put certainly didn't get a feeling of urgency from him). Go if you want to trade in a game from the ad, but be prepared to wait and bicker and talk to a manager.

Hm really tempting here but the dilemma is figuring out what to do with microcenter trade in credit lol. Thanks to all who posted TIVs.

Did a trade today and it went smooth. Some of the games I brought in were missing instructions but everything had cases and artwork. Normal amount of scratches for used games. Traded some of what was previously listed and two games that weren't. Thanks to those that posted additional trade in values!

:ps3: Dead Space 2 $17.00
:ps3: King Of Fighters XII $9.00

Great tip!! I didn't even notice the expiration date. I just got a gift card anyways cuz I wanted something more substantial than a printed receipt.

To anyone who is thinking about going to Microcenter, I would do it soon because the TIV's look really iffy. I got $28 for Brink, but in-store and online, used copies of Brink are selling for $17.99. So.......yeah......

Bummer, I really want to trade in multiple stuff.
Can you use the credit on other items in the store instead of just games?
Yes. It's just like a regular Microcenter gift card. Usable on anything they sell.

The sales associate that was processing my trade told me that Microcenter will price match any B&M store. They will even price match certain BF deals. Just an fyi for anyone who was wondering what to do with there MC credit.

Microcenter sucks ASS.

Normally customer service sucks, you wait forever for help. Their 'associates' are poorly trained and nearly clueless. You wait ridiculously long just to for that one person who is sort-of capable of performing trade-in.

Sometimes the trade-in system is down; offline or whatever. Their trade-ins prices are normally as bad as GameStop.

When you do have some credit built up; their prices aren't competitive. They suck at sales. You'll end up holding credit for the occasional clearance.

They do not price-match competitors. They do not price match. They did in the past, but it's arbitrary now at the discretion of whoever in the back room.

I am more frustrated shopping there than anything. You've been WARNED.
