Can I leave the gamepad in the cradle whenever it's not in use or is it better to charge it only when the battery is low?

We've had outs sitting on the cradle since day one (launch day) and despite nearly daily use from my son (mostly in Miiverse) it seems to be holding its charge the same as always.

I don't generally advocate for digital games but I would highly recommend the digital for Wii Fit U since you need to synch with the fit meter, and putting in a disc would be really cumbersome when synching every day. This way you just boot up the console and start the game and you can synch right away. If any game is to be bought digital it is this. Besides the fit meter is only $20 if you already have the balance board. Gamestop sells the balance boards cheap if you can't find one elsewhere.

Yeah, like Animal Crossing for the 3DS this seems like a good choice for digital. I have a store pickup order in place for the meter for $9.99 from Fry's. I need to get in there tomorrow to pick it up before they cancel it. I still have time to download and sync to get the game for free, right? It would be nice to get some use out of that balance board. I bought it at the release of Wii Fit and used it for about 2 days .

Edit: Crap, I already might be too late at Fry's. My order says pick up by 12/31/13 or the price is subject to change. It is still $9.99 online but could change by Friday when I can get in there. Maybe I can put another order in. OK, put a second order in, in case they change the price before Friday ;).

do preowned wii u's at gamestop work really good or dont buy used?

I hate Gamestop in general, particularly their used market, which saps the money from the industry, preys upon buyers and screws those who trade in, so my comments will be biased in that regard; however, it seems to me like buying used from them would be a bad idea.  I would consider a refurbished system from Nintendo or Amazon or someone, but at the same time, why not just get a good deal on some brand new hardware instead?  I'm all about recycling, but...

Eh, I bought used systems from GS before with no issue, I just got a refurb Vita since they had it on sale for 130 and it works great.

I'm thinking about getting the Fit Meter and giving Wii Fit U a try. I didn't stick with Wii Fit that long, but it's winter and I certainly need an exercise routine. When does the promo end, for buying a the meter and getting Wii Fit U free?

With as many stories we've all read just on CAG about how an user is experiencing hardware issue and being advised to "does it boot up for 5 minutes? if so, trade it in to GS", I would not buy used unless it is factory refurbished.... not gs refurb or anything.

Plus, with how long I expect to keep my hardware, just not worth it to buy used. Yes,  many will be fine and we've all heard the "OMG, I bought a used Vita and it has a 32GB card in it!" stories, supporting the manufacturer with a +1 sale (out of millions!...) and buying new give me a little peace of mind. I have enough to worry my mind in RL I don't want to worry about some preteen's bodily fluid on/in  some used crap.

For me it really depends on WHERE you are buying used. If you are buying used from GS, then you can probably get a better deal elsewhere by paying a few bucks more for a better quality product. GS's used products are usually thrift store quality, aka the worst of the worst. Also stay away from the flea market for used systems, those are usually really bad as well.  If you are buying from another family or person on CL, ebay or a yard sale you have a much better chance of getting a system that was hardly used. I own many systems from yard sales and I have done well.  Just don't pay more than you would pay for a broken system, and if you are paying a lot make sure you test it out when you are buying it.

I probably wouldn't buy a used handheld or a used controller though, unless it looked in almost perfect shape, definitely wouldn't buy a used 3DS.. too much going on there.. especially since the buttons on handheld systems can't be replaced easily and they get abused by children and who knows what else. With a used system just add a new controller and its no problem.

Although I generally agree with comments here about not buying a used console from GS, I did pick up a used, near-mint 3G Vita from there a few months ago for $137.xx, a great deal at that time, and it works perfectly (my second Vita). If you do look carefully at the condition of a handheld, you're probably going to do fine. Home consoles, on the other hand, you have to be a lot more careful.

So do you need the sensor bar for anything? I haven't hooked it up and I've played a bunch of games and I'm not sure I need it. I really don't want to put it above or below the TV because it would be a huge huge pain in the ass to do properly. Anyone else not using it?

You really only need it if you want to play Wii games or use a Wii remote to navigate the Wii U menu. I do that occasionally - it is convenient when playing the new Wii Sports Bowling for example. There's no need to get the gamepad down at all then.

You only need it for Wii games im pretty sure. Or maybe when you ever want to use the Wii Remote?

I don't see myself playing any Wii games so I guess I'll do without it for now. I've got SM3DW, Zelda, SMBU+Luigi, Pikmin 3 and Nintendoland. So far so good.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it is used a decent amount in Nintendoland.

We haven't played them all yet but do any require the pointer? The ones we've played just made you hold the wiki remote sideways and worked fine.

You might want to keep that sensor bar out for Pikmin 3, unless you plan on playing it with the gamepad only.  I found the remote + nunchuck, while using the gamepad as a map, to work best.

Finally

The Metroid one is fun and uses the pointer if you are playing multiplayer. I suppose if you play it single player you can be the gamepad player. We've only played it multiplayer so far so remotes (pointer) were needed.

I started playing Windwaker finally and I have to say that the control layout on the gamepad leaves something to be desired. Maybe I just need to get use to it, but having to reach below the right stick to tap buttons feels awkward and I felt my thumb cramping up before long from bending it awkwardly down to the buttons. If I held the gamepad lower it was fine, but then when I need to use the right stick I have to move it back up. Anyone else having trouble with this?

Metroid Blast uses Wii Remote Plus, so it doesn't use the Pointer, which sucks, since you have to recalibrate a lot.

I'm enjoying NES Remix so far, though I hate Clu Clu Land and Golf >_< I feel like I'll never get all of the Rainbow Stars in those and on Excitebike #10. UGH.  Overall, it feels very hit and miss, since some games really don't seem to fit into the concept well, or whatever the concept is, it's very scatterbrained.

I do love the Stamps though, and it continuously makes me want them to be there on an OS level, and not in-game.

I played with Pro Controller + Gamepad as map. That is far better (to me) than having to touch a remote + nunchuk which I avoid like the plague ;).

This is how I did it as well.  As close as we're going to get to the classic GC controls.

Are you sure it doesn't use both? I have not had to recalibrate a lot. Maybe you are trying to play it without the sensor bar?

I ordered a Wii Fit Meter. So I guess I'm going to be sitting on the balance board and pretending to exercise…. ;)

It controls like Skyward Sword, which doesn't use the Pointer for Aiming.  It's supposed to use the Pointer for automatic calibration, but it doesn't quite work all the time.

Well I've only played Metroid Blast a few times, but so far I've had no problems with calibration. Calibrated when we started and that was good for the entire session. No recalibration needed.

Next month Nintendo should put out their quarterly financial statement and that should have the numbers in it.

Got a Wii U pro controller yesterday. It's a pretty damn great controller. If the triggers were analog I'd put it right up there with the best controllers ever. Very ergonomic, 80 hour battery life etc. much more comfy to use than the game pad so I'll use it in any game that doesn't require the gamepad or use it in a way that really enhances gameplay.

In hindsight Nintendo should have probably launched with a pro controller and Wiimote inside the box and made the controller and optional accessory bundled with Nintendoland. They'd probably be much better off now if they launched at day $250 with those controllers and NSMBU bundled.

Speaking if which, u beat NSMBU last night and started working in getting all the star coins. Already got all the secret exits as cleared every stage through the end. Also caught Nabbit in every world. So I just need to get the star coins and I the star road levels.

Great game. Best 2D Mario since SMW.
