I sold a Cinderella MetalBox from best buy for a whopping $1.94 on eBay. It's going to cost more to ship than I made lol.

yeah, if it was still sealed i would be more interested in it. But since its open some could argue that the spine is the easiest part of the steel to alter. (not that im saying you did but if you put it on ebay dont expect huge numbers.)

there's some kind of lawsuit going on right now about copyright infringement of the Viva metal paks so there might not be any more.

Did some research. Here's a link to a court document about the case.

http://www.scribd.co...Hong-Kong-et-al

http://litigation.ma...px?CaseID=76384

The first link just describes the case. The second one sells the details on what looks to be the results. I'm going to see if I can find anything else before venturing to purchase the info. It's only $1.99, but I wouldn't be using this site if I wasn't looking for the cheapest way to get something.

Thanks. So the people who own Steelbooks are suing because they basically own the patent for "metal storage containers" for DVD's/Blus. I guess this really can't end well for Viva since it does appear to be a clear infringement

Sounds like they are done:

"The Court permanently RESTRAINS AND ENJOINS Defendants Viva Magnetics Ltd. (Hong Kong), Viva USA, Inc., Viva Media Packaging (Canada) Ltd., Viva Metal Packaging Ltd. and Viva Media Packaging Ltd. (collectively, “Viva defendants”), their duly authorized agents, servants, employees, and all others in active concert or participation with the Viva defendants from (a) infringing the following United States patents of plaintiff Glud & Marstrand A/S (“G&M”): 7,051,872; 7,232,032; 7,350,642; and D562,049, and (b) making, using, offering to sell, selling and/or importing (i) the Viva Metal Box for Blu-Ray and DVD products accused of infringement in this action, and/or (ii) the Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) case accused of infringement in the 2005 action between G&M and some of the Viva defendants."
End of line.

Yikes. Sounds like the end of the road for Viva Metal Boxes, unless they pay a license fee to keep selling in NA.

It was mostly just Disney that used them in the US, so with this decision they'll probably switch back to Steelbook.

I don't have a preference, though I do like the embossing touches that Metal Box's added, and that the spine was made of metal and not a sticker.

Personally I thought the Viva Metal ones were a little sturdier which I liked found it easier to get them in good condition (spines mostly) then the Steelbook brand

So all vivas will go up in price?

First, how can you claim prior non-existance to devalue a movement? I am sure the civil rights movement would love that. "Well, there was no movement to free the slaves before, so why is it relavent now?"
