I think created fighters is the way to go. So skills in online tournaments are normalized? I did not know this. So a person with a created fighter with more XP will not have an advantage against a lower XP fighter in this tournament?

My review just went up -
http://www.game-over...disputed_3.html

I'm interested in more CAGFC - I enjoyed it in 2010, and as long as interest could be maintained, it would be fun to do again this year.

Well, by my count we have about 7-8 people who have expressed interest so far. That's not a tremendous number, but hopefully it will grow once the game is out.

The decision we are facing though is how to set things up. In 2009, we kinda let people just choose their weight classes...and some of them only had 2 members for the first few weeks. Ultimately, it worked, and we had a great experience with rivalries in all 5 weight classes and a nice variety of fighters. But we also had closer to 15-20 people starting out.

In 2010, we had less interest, and ended up just voting on one weight class for everyone to start out in. As things progressed, people were allowed to sign up a second fighter in a different weight class. I'm kinda getting the feeling that we might need to go a similar route this year, especially considering there are now 7 weight classes...which would spread us even thinner.

All of this is also assuming that people want to use created fighters. This has always been MY preference, as it gives you an identity that you can carry through the duration of the league. However, with the new options for balanced fighters, I suppose we could do a "draft" of actual fighters and wouldn't have to worry about one person getting Jon Jones and another getting Tito Ortiz because their skills would be balanced.

That would still limit us in terms of number of fighters in a division though...and the problem all other leagues have, people dropping and leaving popular fighters open while longtime members are stuck with "crappier" fighters. I don't want to deal with the headache of "Ooh! I want to switch to Anderson Silva!" At least with created fighters, if somebody dropped/got booted, it wouldn't be a big deal. I still think I would prefer created fighters, but I'm definitely more open to real fighters than in years past.

This one is definitely open for discussion though, so feel free to start weighing in (ba dum ching!) and we'll see what kind of shape this thing takes.

I'd say stick with created fights primarily, but maybe if enough interest is there the real guys could be our secondary fighters or something. One weight class is probably good to start and maybe 3 at most when things really get going. Should try to pick the three that might allow the most diverse style of play.

Also, I liked how you did the cards before and I think that should continue, but I think fight nights would also be good too. Times where we could get together and whoever is online together could fight each other. Maybe these wouldn't include title fights or something, but I think it would be a good way to get a community going.

This might be the first UFC game I actually own. Probably won't have it the day it comes out, but interested in more info on the league.

Ehh...mixing real fighters with created ones might be confusing...but with the whole "balanced" skill set, it's definitely something we could explore. At worst, separate tournaments could be set up.

As for Fight Nights, I like the idea of actually holding a card on a set night (do we know if there's a spectator mode? I need to read more reviews. I know EA MMA had one), but as for like any round robin style of tournament, I wouldn't want that to count toward overall records or rankings...especially since the fights don't take long and you could easily knock out 10-15 in a given night. It could definitely be used as a great training tool though, and would really promote a "fight camp" kind of atmosphere.

I really like the responses I'm seeing about created fighters. To me, that's where CAGFC really shines. I've seen some people online who only like using real fighters, but in my opinion, the created fighters added so much personality to the league. We had fighters from E.Honda to Lincoln Burrows to the gay, black, Swede with the pink tights and blonde hair, Gail Pennyfeather. Considering this year's game will feature porn staches and fighter walk outs, not using created fighters would almost feel wrong, haha.

You should definitely get in on this, Chase. CAGFC is one of the most fun leagues I've ever been a part of. I've always loved it because of how easy it was to run. Cards are drawn up week to week, so there are no set schedules that have to be stuck to for months and months. Not to mention, fighters can come and go as they please and it won't cripple the league. Basically, you get out of it as much as you want to put in, without needing to be committed for any set length of time. It's very laid back in that regard.

Ok, now that we've officially decided to give this thing a shot (and it looks like we're leaning toward CAFs again), why don't we start voting on a weight class to start with. Keep in mind, I think it should be a definite for us to use the "authentic" stamina setting, as I don't want to see any button mashing or spamming of any techniques. That alone would make me reluctant to go with Heavyweight (and in 2010, I think we did WW and HW).

My personal preference would be either Light Heavyweight or Lightweight. To me, those are two of the most exciting divisions in the UFC, and I think give some nice versatility. Really, we could even plan to do both of them, in the way that everybody starts out with one fighter, and once they demonstrate that they don't have an issue getting their fights done on time, they're allowed to add a second fighter in a new weight class. That's how we did it in the past and it worked pretty well.

One other issue is whether or not we use balanced fighters. Strategically, I like the idea of being able to craft your fighter and your skillset to the type of fighter that YOU want to make. However, given past experiences (and just the general trend with online gaming), I just don't know if that's even possible without leaving room for some kind of glitch or exploit (100+ fighters, 30 striking/99 sub fighters with unstoppable takedowns, etc).

For the sake of CAGFC and guaranteeing that things are fair, I think balanced fighters might be the way to go. Probably not as glamorous (I think balanced fighters have all skills set at 90), but at least you'd have peace of mind knowing you're not being cheated.

So, feel free to voice your opinions on these topics and maybe vote for your top 2 weight classes, and we'll see what we come up with.

EDIT - Haha, as I'm typing this, UPS knocks on my door with my game! Sweet! :)

I agree that we should use balanced fighters. As for the weight classes, we have 7 to choose from. I know Nate and I went with our real weights (welterweight) in 2010. My real life weight class now would be on the upper end of lightweight or maybe a small welterweight as I am hovering around 155 pounds. I was also the final CAGFC 2010 Welterweight Champion of the Wooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrlllld.

Yeah, if I used my real weight again, I'd be back at middleweight. While my wife was pregnant, I ate for two as well, lol. But actually, I don't think I'm going to use my actual self as a fighter this year. I want to have a bit more fun with it.

Also (and not everyone will get this), I vote for making a Fight Camp called "Jew Claw". It has a nice ring to it doesn't it? What a way to strike fear into your opponent's heart...unless, of course, they have gypsy tears, lol. :)

Played through the guided tutorial to learn the new moves and get reaquainted with the old ones.

New Gameplay Tweaks I LOVE.

Simulation stamina
Submission blocking
Transition interrupts
Checking leg kicks
Knee strike intercept on takedowns
Encouraging you to use a jab since they CANNOT be counter grappled but CAN interrupt power strikes
Ground sways

And finally, the new submission system. I have to disagree with JaytheGamefan's review of it. Yes, aesthetically, it's distracting and pulls you out of the action a bit. But it's a solid solution to a huge problem that was the previous submission system. I would much rather a game developer have their priorities as 1. Get it to play right. 2. Get it to look good. Changing to this type of submission system is a step in the right direction of making a better MMA game. They can worry about making it look prettier for UFC Undisputed 4. I also think it makes submission switching more tangible, as now you'll actually be able to see your sub attempt slipping away, and know that you need to try something else if you don't want to lose it.

Basically, yes. And I know that probably sounds lame. But you have no idea the amount of exploits that were present in previous games with people using CAFs. At one point, it was possible to create a fighter with a 105 rating. The results were just absurd. We had to institute ratings caps and all kinds of other things just to have something that resembled a fair experience...and even then people were basically operating on the honor system.

If I had any confidence at all in there being no exploits, I would love to allow people to craft their own fighters. But in online gaming, I feel like you can never underestimate the lengths people will go to to cheat. I'm sure we'll find out in the next few days if there are any huge exploits though. So, everybody just keep an ear to the ground, and who knows, maybe we'll actually be able to let people adjust their own stats.

I'm down with created fighters and would say heavyweight is my preference, but light heavyweight is fine too.

n8rockerasu,

Not including tournament results into records sounds okay, but what about moving the CAGFC more towards it being less about records and more about fight nights and tournaments? I know this is probably a no and I probably agree with that for now, but if demand slows down and we need to spur activity I think being more event and tournament focused wouldn't hurt to keep interest up.

If you wouldn't mind maybe I could help with the social end of things in that regard. Setting these kind of things up, even if they don't reflect win-loss record. We could think of them as exhibitions and maybe every now and then it could at least help generate a title shot or something.

Loving the game...though the online STILL isn't perfect. I've played about 20 matches...give or take and in about 5 of them the match randomly disconnected...usually in the first minute into round one. Somtimes a little later. A bit of lag on a couple of the other fights as well. I love the simulation stamina settings...it really makes you have to plan out your attacks then just doing rock em sock robots. The only thing I hate is the submission system. Going to try to get more familiar with it and give it a chance, but as of now, I cant stand it.
