CAGiversary!
It's that time again. The time where young lads unshackle their clean shaven mugshots for a beard that would make Robin Williams jealous. A time where one-on-ones mean nothing. A time where 4 overtimes a game is considered par for the course!

It's the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Same rules as last year. I'll update the thread with upcoming games and previous results until my team, the Washington Capitals, are eliminated from playoffs. Once that happens I'll abandon the thread from sheer depression, so it'll be up to to everyone else to update it then, which I'm assuming no one will do (SURPRISE ME!). If the Capitals somehow, by some chance, win the Stanley Cup, I will...do absolutely nothing idiotic because I hate to get everyone's hopes up.

Well Pittsburgh does have a lot of Offense and play well against most of the Top 4 in the East, but they seem to have trouble when they get down in games.

I personally see it going like this.
ECQF: NYR > OTT; WSH > BOS; NJD > FLA; PIT > PHI
ECSF: WSH > NYR; PIT > NJD

Leaving Bettman's Dream Matchup of Washington v. Pittsburgh. A team Pittsburgh really hasn't fared well against the last 3 seasons. As a Caps fan though, I don't like the Boston matchup. However, the Caps always seem to play well when they are perceived to be the Underdog in a series. But honestly, it just feels like the time for the Showdown between Washington and Pittsburgh.

As for the West...
WCQF: VAN > LAK; SJS > STL; CHI > PHX; DET > NSH
WCSF: CHI > VAN; SJS > DET

That'd be a Chicago-San Jose rematch from 2 years ago. I sort of see that going Chicago's way again though.

Explain to me how the Capitals are winning two playoff rounds without using the word "Ovechkin" because he's never been the reason for their playoff flameouts

#1 - Backstrom's healthy
#2 - The Capitals play better in front of Holtby for some reason
#3 - Someone breaks Tim Thomas' shins
#4 - The Rangers don't usually fare well against the Capitals in the Playoffs

washington has been terrible this season, begining to end. Rangers/Pens eastern final. I think washington, philly, flordia and ottawa are done in the first round.

The west is different, vancouver has schneider and he is better than luongo. So vancouver could be in the conference finals. I still think outside of that home win streak detroit is done. They are to old to keep doing this, and howard is shaky. St. Louis could go far depending on which goalie they use. Like I said, nashville has all the pieces to make it to the finals. I think LA, San Jose, Phoenix and detroit are done in the first round.

As much as I want the Blues to win the cup if they keep playing like they have they will be out in the first round. I could be wrong but I thought I read that St. Louis Blues are 4-0 against San Jose Sharks in regular season. I thought I read that on their Facebook page but like I said I could be wrong. Even if I'm not that still doesn't mean they will beat them in the playoffs. As I said they seem to have been going down hill till last night.

Really excited about the Preds chances this year. Of course it has to be Detroit in the opening round, but it seems their window is finally closing and Nashville has a pretty tough team. I'd love to see the Cup in Music City though!
I'm going to have to figure out a way to watch the Pittsburgh/Philly series :whistle2:k:hot:
That is going to be a brutal series. I can't fucking wait.

Terrible this season? I think not, good sir. Inconsistent? Hell yes. I'm sorry, but no "terrible" team makes it into the playoffs. We're not even the eighth seed! We've been all over the map this year, but have really been heating up lately, thanks in no small part to Ovechkin.

I think that series could go either way, and I think it will be the Caps that win or lose it, not Boston.

Reasons why Caps win:
third-string goaltender Holtby learns to channel his aggressive tendencies with exceptional puck play and some luck from Green and co's Defense
Mike Green, Backstrom and Ovechkin finally have a solid series in the playoffs.
Caps match Boston's physicality and tenaciousness with some of their own

Reasons why Caps lose:
Holtby can't control himself or gets injured, or we bring back Voukoun or Neuvirth too early from injuries
Caps get frustrated after a game 1 loss and blow the series
Dale Hunter's prevent defense backfires, allowing Boston back into games

playoff hockey is here, Penguins are raising the cup this year. First round winner: Rangers, Boston, NJ, Pitt, Van, St. Louis, Chicago, and Nashville

As a Rangers fan, I'm not sure how i should feel about these playoffs. They normally tend to fizzle out pretty early, but they did have the most points in the East so... I dunno.

Nucks and Kings game has been pretty good so far.

Really excited about tomorrow though, first Bulls vs Heat, then Blackhawks vs Coyotes.
Hopefully the Hawks can take this series in 6 games.
whew. glad Laviolette woke them up.
I'm a miracle worker. What can I say?

Clearly Holtby is the only Capitals player who wants to win tonight's game.

EDIT:
I don't know if it's the Rangers who look really good or if it's the Senators who look really bad. I'll go with the Senators looking bad.

Got a ticket for tomorrows Blues and Sharks game. After working 12 hours yesterday and having to do the same today I was out some time second period. I hope the Blues win it tomorrow.

Yeah that was definitely true, but that's the sort of game I'm okay with losing. Your green goaltender stops 23/24 shots and makes some pretty incredible saves? I'm okay with that.

You know Washington will be able to put more than 17 shots on net next game, and we hopefully won't be a man down for half of the first period again. I like what I saw from Washington. We had a gritty defensive performance, and Holtby played like a champ. Can't wait for Saturday.

Well I saw Holtby play in that Tampa game last year on 3/7/11, and he's the reason that team won the game despite him only playing 2 periods. But man, it was depressing to see the Caps not really get up for that game.

Little late but here are my picks:Rangers, Canucks, Bruins, Blues, Devils, coyotes, Pens, Wings.
Wanted to see Weber suspended but I'm not too worked up about it. Maybe it will cause a chippy series. I predict that Bertuzzi gets the game winner tonight.

Pittsburgh once again proves that 3-0 is the most dangerous lead in hockey. Philly's up 2-0 in the series now, wow.
Sure was. Letang's one of the more underrated fakers and floppers out there.
They all follow their captain!
I liked how Simmonds mocked the shit out of all the penguins with the fake head snap.
That was pure comedic gold. And Laviolette in the tunnel after the first period was also priceless!

PS: LETS GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!
I missed it. What did Lavi do?
He pointed at the camera man, and pretty much said "Get that fucking camera out of my face" .

It was on CSN though, not the national broadcast.
