Took about 17 minutes on the phone to get my PM to TRU but it seems worth it. $48 + $20 RZ certificate for a good game day one. I'll probably trade it in before it dips below the base price of $20 so I'll get $42 back with the 100% promo and GCU 10% bump. Any other PMs to a lower price would be icing on the cake.

What mentality? Following a company wide policy is not our fault. Abusing deals in ways that the company did not intend is a problem. Legit price matches are not.

You and I both know bestbuy did not intend for people to price match the game your getting a 20 cert on without it being deducted from the bottom line.. It's a loophole in there policy. Please dont act like they intended for us to price match the game down to 40 as well.

It's a dog eat dog mentality on here. I'm not judging anybody but I'm not being naive to what I'm doing ether. Look at the eca amazon incident. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. That's all I'm saying.

Best Buy doesn't really care cause they give you 20 for free, then you basically come in, use it, and spend more then you normally would since you have 20.

They want to get people in the store.

Wow now it is a loophole. Explain exactly why bby did not intend there to be a price match? Where in the policy does it say if we give you a RZ cert you forfeit the Price match policy? I am not even sure where you are dreaming up this stuff. You are acting like BBY is run by 12 year olds with no reasoning skills.

If they didn't intend it, they would have amended the policy because they had this same deal last year. They'd also amend it for next year's policy, but they haven't and probably won't. As stated earlier, they get you to come back in and spend more than that $20 Cert. Managers are aware of the PM's and the $20 certs and they still allow it, because it's condoned. If it weren't, it would have been stopped by now. Guess what? It hasn't been.

As for judging, that's exactly what you're doing. You're looking down your nose at us because we'd like to get the best possible price on a new game. The ECA/Amazon incident only further proves our point that companies can and will change policy if it starts to effect their bottom line. Best Buy hasn't, so this isn't really up for discussion.

QUESTION:

Does it matter when you pre-order (i.e. in advance of release)? For example, could I pre-order Halo 4 on Monday and still get the promo for the Tuesday release. I don't see anything online that says I can't but I was not paying attention to previous pre-orders to see if their was a cutoff. Thanks!

They've told people that PM is allowed, so I don't understand your argument...They give the $20 cert to get people back in the store to buy stuff, it's not like they're giving away cash and never expect to see the customer again. I don't think you quite understand the point of this promotion. And it's their.

Yeah. They cut off preorders a few days before release. If you want to preorder and get the deal, I'd do it sooner rather than later, because it's been erratic this year on when they stop taking them. If the machine at your local no longer has it in it, you can take the SKU to the front and they should be able to pull it up, but I'd get there before that happens to ensure you get in on the deal.

Do what you please. If I had proof would you stop?

In the fine print of the promotion it states offer is not valid with other discounts. Take that as you will but you know they mean they don't want you to discount the game to 40 and still get a 20 cert.

The cutoff is when they stop taking pre-orders for the game (usually the Saturday before release in-store and the day before online).

The only proof is what they've said, which is you CAN PM and get the $20 cert. Other discounts does not include PM's, not sure why you think it does.

The PM Policy is not a discount.

Edit: Also, at this point of the promo, 9 games into the promotion (even more if you include last years), they'd have changed the PM policy for these games/deals if they saw it effect their bottom line.

You argued my point, you know that right? Amazon had a policy that they thought effected their bottom line, so they changed it. Best Buy has that same right. If Best Buy continues to advertise the PM policy (and offer an extended one for being a loyal customer), people are going to continue to use it. It's sad that you can't see that.

And you argued mine. If people showed some restraint and acted reasonably, the Amazon policy would still be in place. You and everyone else who abuse these policies force retailers to change them. So, yes, you're right, Best Buy can and will change their policy or go out of business. Either way, people who want the lowest prices possible through competition between retailers lose out.

No, I didn't. You're point is that it's our job as consumers to protect the retailers.

Guess what, it's not. They can protect themselves. This isn't a loophole, or an exploit, or anything of the sort. Its a deal (the $20 Cert) and the policy working in synergy. BB is for it. They want a bigger share of the gaming market. They've gotten it from me, seeing as how I haven't shopped at GameStop in over a year. This is like arguing against the 100% TIV bonus they run often. You act like they don't know what they're doing.

I have no issue with the cert and people getting a price adjustment as you're correct, that's stated in the program rules. What I have an issue with is people seriously talking about wasting the time of either the 1-800 number or store personnel to get a $2 price adjustment. It's that kind of unreasonableness that causes programs like this to go away, not someone legitimately coming in because an item dropped $10 or $20 within a few weeks of their purchase. Amazon didn't cancel their program because people were getting too much money in increments of $1-$2 back. It was that every time one of those adjustments had to be made it cost phone time of their CSRs and accounting time to process the refunds. That's what I'm arguing is not reasonable.

Cool.

They'd be at work anyway. And if people didn't use them, they would be wasting their time playing Angry Birds or chit-chatting anyway.

...to get a $2 price adjustment.

But you just said that you didn't have a problem with the policy.

It's that kind of unreasonableness that causes programs like this to go away, not someone legitimately coming in because an item dropped $10 or $20 within a few weeks of their purchase.

It may be unreasonable to you, and that's okay because it's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but at the end of the day, people are only using the policy the way it was meant to be used. It's still a legitimate price match. It's still within the policy.
