One Piece collections 1-5 $16.99 each

One Piece is probably the best Shonen out there. It's the spiritual successor to Dragon Ball and beats it in every category. I'd say $17 is a great price for a blind buy.

For anybody even remotely interested in this series / likes this series, you should really try to buy as much as you can. The better this series sells, the more likely we are to get more of it dubbed. It needs to be supported.

I love this series and the lore behind the One Piece world. The manga has been fantastic and the newer story arcs are really great. This series does have a tendency to lag sometimes or beat a dead horse as they recap the hell out of stuff early on a lot. It did seem to get better but these newly re-released sets are a great buy for the price. You're getting a ton of episodes for less than $20. I'm in for these no problem.

dunno why this series never took off in the states. anybody know if they're planning on dubbing the 300 or so remaining episodes that havent been brought over yet? i would totally buy these if i could expect the rest to be brought over.

I assume they will, and from what I understand they're going to. The only problem may be with the whole licensing issue in the states...
This anime has 550 (and still going) episodes.

Holy fuck.
I've been watching this series for damn near 10 years, I really enjoy it.

I started a year and a half ago. Out of bordem I watched a few eps right after the crew got separated and powered through the series in a couple of months and loved every episode. I already have the first 3 box sets might have to get 4 and 5 as well.

Would you recommend buying the box sets or just streaming the content for now and waiting it out?

I'm worried that if I buy these sets they won't finish releasing the rest of the series.

I started watching the first couple of episodes on Hulu (commercials ) and it looks like my kind of action/humor anime. Pretty funny so far. Although that 550+ episode backlog is daunting... :fridge:

I've never watched the "official releases" so I don't know how they are or if they are edited for content, I really don't buy anime but I watch a lot of fansubs. The best person to ask would be probably be Squarehard, if they ever do release these in Blu-Ray I would wait for that since the show is in HD now.

It's pretty expensive though, $85 for roughly around 1/5 of the current show that looks like it's barely half way done.

Oh wow I didn't know they started releasing HD episodes.

And holy crap, crazy to think there will be another 500 episodes.

I know this series is very popular in Japan, I think it's the most popular at the moment.

I love the manga, but I can't stand the anime. I hate the voice acting for most of it. I don't enjoy 'reading' my shows, so the Japanese isn't a viable option for me. In all honesty, it's just as annoying anyway.

+1 vote for just reading it instead! lol

Something to look forward too.

For anyone that's not familiar with One Piece, FUNimation released a "One Piece 101" video about the main character, Monkey D. Luffy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjFByvEuxGI

Why didn't it take off? Cause 4Kids initially dubbed the series and ruined its chances. Most newcomers saw the dub and assumed that's how the show really was. As for fans of the series, it made them steer clear from the dub and resort to piracy (hur). 4Kids basically refused to release an uncut release and stopped dubbing it after several arcs in. Didn't help the edited the living hell out of it.

FUNimation eventually got it and continued where 4Kids left off, ignoring most of the changes 4Kids did (simply for consistency in the edited dub). Unfortunately, Cartoon Network cancelled it in favor of airing more Naruto right before canning Toonami all together.

FUNimation recently announced they have Season 4, which covers the Davy Back Fight all the way to possibly the Enies Lobby arc, if not then up to Water 7
.

Don't count on an HD release. Toei's very hesitant about allowing FUNi to release it in HD due to the fact that Japan doesn't even get BD releases of the series, save for the movies. In fact, neither Naruto, Bleach or One Piece have had any of the TV episodes released on BD. The only way to see the episodes in HD is through Japanese HD TV programming.
Haha there is like a $2 difference? But yeah Box set 6 is included so that's good. Too bad I get charged tax.
I guess tax depends where you live, Its a like a $4 difference if you are not charged tax.

Half of them were unavaliable for shipping, so I picked up the three that were along with the FMA:Brotherhood movie, which was also the same price to make it 4 items.

I then picked up the other three from Amazon so thanks to both of you on the deal.
