Given that we're advancing early this evening and that Monday is a holiday for some people, this seems like the perfect time to give a 2-day advance period a whirl. Let's see how it goes.

Advancing now, deadline is Monday night.

sweet perfect timing its my bye week :)

Denver Broncos 45 - Oakland Raiders 21

The Broncos rebound from their first loss of the season with a strong offensive and defensive showing against the Raiders. The D played well for the most part, and there were a couple of weird TDs which bounced the Raiders way.

Osweiler was 8 of 12 for 106 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. It was his first pick of the season, but it was pretty flukey, more on that in a moment.

Warner was 8 of 16 for 123 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT.

McFadden had himself a day, carrying 12 times for 239 yards and 3 TDs. McGahee added 10 carries for 34 and a TD, still not a strong effort but a bit of an improvement on his recent performances.

Sean Moorhouse had a good day as well, carrying 16 times for 131 yards and a TD.

Julius Thomas lead the Broncos with 3 catches for 40 yards and a TD.

Denarius Moore's lone 51 yard catch lead the Raiders. Also worth noting a ridiculous catch by Nick Mosely, which he caught on a full dive off of a deflection. One of the most insane Madden catches I've ever seen.

Joe Mays had a pick as well as a fumble recovery TD and a forced fumble at the goal line (though the Raiders picked it up for a score). Rahim Moore forced the fumble that Mays recovered, while rookie Jaron Archer notched another sack.

The Raiders got a pick six from Ron Bartell as time expired in the 1st half, albeit with a big assist from the Madden servers.

---
gg Tanabeo! That running back of yours is a star, I was glad you stuck with him more this time, he's tough to slow down.

The one play I did want to highlight, since it got me quite annoyed in the moment was as time expired in the 1st half. The Broncos were up 10 and there were about 9 seconds left, ball around their own 40. I drop back to pass and hit the button quickly for a simple flat route to McFadden, which was wide open. Just your typical "see what happens" play, not really trying to score. Just as I hit throw there is a huge lag spike and the game literally stops for 3 or so seconds, when it comes back he still throws the pass which is a weak duck which Bartell easily runs in front of, picks off and runs back for six. Now look, I know 99% of Madden players are going to return that, but taking advantage of an obvious lag-induced play like that still kind of rubbed me the wrong way at the time. I don't blame Tanabeo though, like I said I'm sure most players would have taken the freebie. I like to think I wouldn't have though. Oh well, it didn't end up mattering in the end, and otherwise it was a fine game.

Trade Rejected

These Chargers deals have us seriously rethinking bringing back the trade cap for next season. For the most part everyone has done fine showing restraint without it in place, but the gutting of the Chargers is getting a bit overboard. I'm sorry to single you out, but even if I were vague about it everyone would know who I'm talking about.

That said, this trade was obviously also rejected on its merits.

Don't worry about it, no hard feelings. It was definitely annoying in the moment, but I definitely get that it happened so fast (well, except for the lag part) you didn't have time to think about it. And like I said, I'm sure most people would do the same thing, especially when trailing.

There were several weird plays in that game, none moreso than that insane diving catch.

I respect the committee to make decisions, but you guys have to realize that these trades are subjective and when you say "this trade was obviously also rejected on its merits" I would love to get a better explanation so I don't repeat the same mistakes. The trade with the Cardinals was considered too lopsided, but we were both happy with the deal. This is the same way, the Chargers and Seahawks GM's agreed so we obviously think it benefits both of our teams. If the committee disagrees I would love to get an explanation so we can work something else out. There are plenty of teams that are completely gutted. The only difference is I inherited a team at the end of last season that I have to fix. Most of you have been working on your team for a while.

It's a given that both sides are happy with every single deal which is submitted. If that was all that mattered, there would be no need for the trade review. Obviously, people who are involved in the trade aren't going to evaluate it objectively.

I respectfully disagree that the Chargers needed fixing. The only major deal they made in the season and a half prior to you joining was moving Rivers, for which they got a pretty substantial return. Their roster had plenty of talent to compete when you took them over. Blockbusters are fine, but it does seem from these trades that you are trying to completely rebuild the team from scratch, which while isn't illegal, is kind of unrealistic. This kind of thing is the reason we had a trade cap in the first place, and while I know you weren't around for that so I don't hold it against you, at the same time these sorts of humongous deals are very frustrating for the committee. We'd never considered reinstating the cap until these deals starting coming up, but now we're discussing it seriously.

Just for reference, if we did still have the trade cap you would have already blown well past it. Nobody else in the league is even close to going over, nor do I think we've had anybody do so in 3 seasons.

That said, on this specific deal, I can't speak for anybody else's reasons for voting against the deal, but I did mostly on the basis of the quality of young talent coming back to the Chargers, I felt outweighed what was going back, especially given Gates' age. Nor do I understand why, if he's your leading receiver like you said, you're trading him at all. And certainly wanting to preserve at least some semblance of the original Chargers team factors into it for me as well.

I get that you love to trade, and I don't begrudge you that, I love to trade too. But I think you'd be better served trying to work on improving with the team you have (which, like I said, has plenty of talent) rather than trading the entire thing away.

I'm not arguing but just to defend my reasoning. I inherited a 34 year old star in Gates, but I acquired 3 young TE's that I want to use. You don't bench a star like gates so you try to trade him for value.

The Seahawks are a running team and their starting LT has a 75 rush blk rating so I offered him a guy with better attributes at a much lower salary. Gates is a weapon that they need and I think I have young guys to replace him. Wilson may very well start for my team and he was sitting second string on the seahawks. Finally Weddle is good, but I think Thomas fits my scheme much better. Here's why.

Week one I gave up 75 yards on 5 rec to D. Thomas and 202 yards to McFadden running along the edge.
Week two I gave up 156 yards to A.J. Green on 4 receptions including a 76 yard long gain.
Week three I gave up 178 yards on 6 receptions to Platt including a 77 yard long gain.
Week four I gave up 168 yards on 11 receptions to Fleener and 62 yards on 2 receptions to Alexander.
Week five I gave up 227 yards to Hill and then switch my safeties and gave up 123 yards to Roddy White.

So as much as I like Weddle he doesn't have the speed to keep up in my scheme with these receivers that blow right past him. I figured in trading for Thomas I would get the speed to drop back and cover these guys going deep. It would also give me the ability to move up and make plays against all the speedy RBs that run to the outside over and over again.

As far as the Chargers went I had 5 or 6 players taking up my entire salary cap. They had highly rated old players with not much of the speed this league values so much. I had no idea I couldn't make trades, but I figured it wouldn't be a problem as long as I kept the trades fair. The Cardinals trade I was fine with and you guys said it was lopsided so we fixed it.

This trade didn't pass but if I knew you didn't want me making anymore trades I will just sit on the team I have and get passed all over. Otherwise I will increase the draft pick offered to a 2nd rounder in 2015 if I'm still allowed to make trades. Get back to me when you guys decide on it. I will say after this trade I will certainly not offer anymore trades until at least next season.

I never said you weren't allowed to make trades, please don't put words in my mouth.

As for you getting passed all over, your very first trade in the league shipped out not one but two starting caliber cornerbacks. Given that, it's really not surprising that people are passing on you so easily. I personally think a lot of these moves have hurt your team more than helped you, which is why I suggested taking a step back and evaluating your team before you keep making these seismic shifts every week. You're of course free to decide for yourself whether to follow that advice or not.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful or put words in your mouth but the committee declined my trade and said that I went over the trade cap so I wasn't sure if that meant I was unable to trade. As far as hurting my team I have to disagree for the following reasons.

I traded Cromartie (10 m salary), N. Clements (83 speed, 84 accel, 3+M salary), and Gaither (83 PBK, 76 RBK, 78 IBL making 3 M salary). That freed up 16+ M in salary and got me some young cornerstones (LT, SS) to my new team.

I followed that by trading a bunch of backups to the Cards for a bunch of guys that have been getting playing time like Dozer(second leading receiver in first start), Toler (#1 cb and a pick in first start), Fusco (starting RG), and Gray who replaced the main player (backup QB Pongi) I traded away. I also freed up some cap, gained a 2nd round draft pick, and once again got younger.

The final trade I purposed allowed me to once again get younger, allows the players I brought in to see the field, gives me a new starting QB, and strengthens my weakness against the deep pass in my secondary.

So after the three trades I have made my team went from being less than 1 mil under the 15-17 mil under. This allows me a lot of flexibility in the offseason. The Chargers went from being one of the oldest teams in the league to one of the younger teams allowing me to grow with my players instead of wondering who might retire.

I have picked up players that fit my offensive and defensive scheme instead of playing in a way I'm not comfortable with. Finally I believe because of all of the team evaluation I've done I think I will be able to compete in this league with the players I've acquired.

There is no trade cap anymore, we removed it this year. But under the old cap, you'd be over it, that's all I was saying. And that all these deals are forcing us to consider putting it back in place. For the moment, you're free to trade as much as you like, but the committee isn't just going to rubber stamp deals we find to be unbalanced or otherwise unacceptable.

Just to avoid future confusion maybe when you guys vote you could each give a short reason for why you decline a trade. "IE. Player X and Player Y are way better than player Z".

As you said before obviously the two parties involved in the trade think it's fair so by declining without explanation it makes it hard for the people trading to figure out how to rework it so the committee will approve it when resubmitted.

Just a suggestion.

People are free to provide their reasoning if they want, but I'm not going to compel them. The voting is anonymous for a reason, I don't want to put anybody in a position where they are being lobbied on these trades.

I'll typically say which side the trade we thought was getting the better deal though, unless it's obvious.

yea i like im not part of the 2 day advancement test run as im on my bye week, its a good idea n im sure a lot of us could handle it, but everyone has shit goin on n its inevitable that if we stick with it, there will be weeks where we get to that second night n theres 5 games left or maybe more....i dont think one test week will show us much ya know

in regards to the chargers, ive already stated this but its clearly sometthin we gotta do somethin about, we should have discussions about new owners making trades. i know its hard to take control of a team thats been drastically changed, n the first reaction is to try n make trades to fix it. its happened to the chargers and steelers this year, not so much the browns cuz theyre just fucked. but if we figured out some way to either compensate new owners by maybe giving them 2 FA signings in the offseason when we go by groups, or to just not allow new owners, even at the start of m14 to make trades till they prove their commitment. i donno just thoughts running thru my bored mind at 8am on this snowwy sunday

Once again for the Cardinals, defense led the way in their 28-16 win. The stars of this game were by far Daryl Washington and Patrick Peterson. Peterson is a star week in and week out, but as of late Daryl Washington is becoming a regular as well. Both Peterson and Washington had two interceptions a piece, Washington took both of his for touchdowns. For the 49ers, they did not have trouble moving the ball. They almost gained double the yardage that the Cardinals offense put up, but in the end it was the turnovers that killed them.
  • Offensive Player Of The Game: 49ers Ja'Mario Ward- For the 49ers, it was all about big plays. None were bigger than Ward's 74 yard touchdown run. It appeared that the Cardinals were going to run away with the game, but then Ward had his big run to get the 49ers right back in the game. He wasn't as solid the rest of the game with 9 other carries for only 34 yards but against the Cardinals stout defense, to have any type of success is impressive. STATS- 10 carries, 108 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Defensive Player Of The Game: Cardinals Daryl Washington- An honorable mention has to go to Patrick Peterson and his two interceptions, but Washington stole the show. Every time the 49ers looked like they were getting back into the game and could potentially take the league, Washington made a play to turn the tide. He had two interceptions both for touchdowns, one to seal the game for Arizona. STATS- 1 tackle, 2 interceptions, 2 touchdowns
