How is it to play as single-player? I loved the Kotor universe and I want to play a new game in the universe.

ive been playing guildwars casually on and off for the past few months and now level 40. halfway done lol. honestly the problem i had with swtor is it iddn't feel much like a mp game. it would of been better if they just made it more like mass effect. :)

Didn't feel like a MP? All of the content the game provides can be played with friends and most side quests will require a team. Each planet has Heroics and Areas, which will require a group to complete. Heroics are a great chance to get better gear drops and may require a bit of some team synergy to complete. Not to mention all of the flashpoints that the game has that requires a complete four man strike team: Tank, healer and two DPS. Flashpoints contain story bits for the overall SWTOR and also drops the best loot for the FP level requirement.

SWTOR is an MMORPG with a story mode that can be completed by yourself. Half the fun is teaming up with people though :D.

Your Class Quests aka Storyline can be completed by yourself. You get companions along the way to help you in this journey. You can certainly add people to your group to help you along your way. Though the main storyline stuff happens during Flashpoints (Dungeons in WoW) and Operations (raids). Those require groups and some coordination. Sure you can youtube them, but taking down a Hutt in a giant AT-AT with stupid hat is half the fun with a full OPS team.

The free singleplayer is a lot of fun and each class has their own unique story within the realm of the SWTOR universe. Just know that these toons are side characters to the overall main storyline. Which is why the "story" continues in the Flashpoints and Operations.

They sent me an email saying I earned cartel coins, I logged in and looked and it says I will earn 550 because I subbed for 2 months and bought the Digital Deluxe, but only IF I resub, well played bioware.

EA has kids to feed too you know...

But yes, it is a cash grab :D But to me, I really only play SWTOR at the moment. So the price is basically like buying 2 and half games per year. With CAG and PC games being really cheap, having a subscription to SWTOR isn't so bad.

Lol, guess they didn't get the memo that F2P doesn't stand for free to pay.

Anyway, my server is gone and WoW is still holding my attention. Fuck TORtanic.

Server merges were made awhile back, so your new home server is now Jedi Covenant. Have fun on your East Coast PvE server!

You can always reroll with the cool kids on The Bastion :D

I played from release until about March. Then I went back to WoW. Still playing WoW atm, but I'll probably check this out again when it goes F2P. Looks like my old server was merged with The Ebon Hawk.

The Ebon Hawk is one of the more community oriented servers. Those RP-PvE guys love community events soo much.

They even have their own server website: http://ebon-hawk.net/

You'll be able to find a guild on that server in no time.

Griefing em was fun at the beginning. The theme park linear design of the game didn't allow it to continue to be fun.

Sandbox games like how SWG were in the beginning allowed almost endless griefing possiblities and clan wars. SWTOR, guild wars were few and far between. Maybe one or two good repub guilds and then there were the dozens of imp guilds.

Such a shame. Game had serious potential. :/

Yeah, 1.2 really destroyed PvP for me in this game, the biggest reason I stopped playing. If I return to it, I'll prolly focus on PvE.

What server did you play on? The Bastion has had some serious Ranked Warzone competition until patch 1.4 dropped.

You felt that 1.2 ruined PvP? Why is that?

1.2 introduced a much better Expertise bonus stat for PvPers and War Hero gear for all classes.

1.2 reduced the time-to-kill significantly, as well as buffing sentinels and marauders into serious OP status. The nerfs to Scoundrel and Operative damage, as well as the nerfs to other healers, made healing the far better choice for them if they wanted to be competitive. It also gave major incentives to quit a losing match rather than stay and try to win.

Some of these things have changed since then from what I understand, but the time-to-kill issue was the biggest problem IMO. I'll prolly give it another shot in December, when I'll likely try playing the game again, but I'm not optimistic about PvP. (Terror from Beyond looks really awesome too, so I might be biased toward PvE right now because of that as well.)

I would argue that the time-to-kill that you are referring to has to do with with the buff to the expertise stat.

In PvP you need Expertise, it buffs damage, reduces damage and buffs heals. The whole point of the buff is to prevent PvE from becoming a factor in PvP. Of course there are those that have found some PvE gear to be BiS because they were still able to get the expertise stat to the magic 1200 range. There is the issue now for fresh 50s with no gear, these guys get murdered for their lunch money because of the low HP and expertise stat.

PvP becomes a much different beast when in a Ranked Warzone. I've been in a match once before where the DPS on both sides top in the 700k range but total kills by both teams barely broke double digits. Team composition becomes a huge factor where sometimes two good teams just come to a complete stalemate until the end. Sometimes it is serious business when it comes to RWZ for some individuals.

Sentinels and Marauders are certainly killers, but nowhere near the OP status of the 1.0 concealment Operatives/Scrapper Scoundrels. In a pure DPS race Pyro-Powertechs/Assault Specialist-Vanguards are the ones that can dish out the heaviest of damage with their Rail Shot/High Impact Bolt procs.
There was a recent buff to Smash spec Juggs/Guardians, but roots are still their weakness. PvP has certainly changed and those that haven't learn to use the changes are the ones that you see on the forums QQ about how much unfun they are having because they lose all the time.

I gotta say that the Operations have been some awesome stuff. Still need to gear up a bit for Terror from Beyond, but man taking down a Hutt with a stupid hat was fun. The game certainly has a lot to offer and maybe it is because I had no expectations going into this game, but there is so much to do and I enjoy every bit of it.

I was on Veela with Fist of the Empire (My previous guild from SWG). Almost everyone from the guild stopped playing SWTOR. I was one of the first to leave after hitting battlemaster and finding NOTHING to do everytime I logged in.

I went online today and found Veela isn't even a server anymore. It was one of the top PVP servers in the USEast when it launched.

This game really sunk fast. :/

You should be in Prophecy of the Five server now. Having only hit Battlemaster only means you never got a taste of ranked warzones. Don't expect to be a top player now, everyone that has been playing knows the ins and out so each class now, hopefully :D

Do not install on your SSD! The game still loads from the server side, so loading from a SSD vs HDD basically is the same speed. Sucks I know, but that is just the way it is.

Your trial account will be convert to F2P, so you can keep any progress you have made on those characters. Note: You will only be allowed two characters on a F2P account (unless you purchase more slots with cartel coins) so in due time you will be asked to delete characters if you happen to have more than two characters on your account.

The servers are actually going down tonight for the F2P launch. So tonight you only have until 1am to play and don't expect to be able to play again until 1pm or later tomorrow.

Hello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for twelve hours on Thursday, November 15th, 2012 from 12AM CST (10PM PST/1AM EST/6AM GMT/7AM CET/5PM AEDT) until 12PM CST (10AM PST/1PM EST/6PM GMT/7PM CST/5AM AEDT). All game servers, SWTOR.com, and the launcher will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than twelve hours, but could be extended.

Because your Bounty Hunter is really just a good person underneath. Going full light or dark side gives you access to specific tiered relics, however this is useless at end game.

There are two specific unlocks that you can get for going either full light or full dark, but the unlock is only helpful when leveling an alternate character. For now, just respond how you think your character would respond, role play and enjoy your experience :D

The Bastion-West Coast PvP. We actually have a lot of late night east coast people play on our server because of their work schedule. Getting to level 15 takes no time at all if you want to re-roll :D

There are some items that you can't wear because you are not "Dark level 6" which really isn't that bad. There is "neutral" stance, so a lot of the players are thinking that we may one day get some armors that are for neutral stance characters.

My Scoundrel is only out for himself, so as long as the choice benefits his interests (money, women, power, ease of mission, etc) that is how I play. So far he is smack dead in the middle of that bar.

The game does a great job at allowing the user to really role play their character. Just wait till you guys get into flashpoints, I know some of you will really get a kick out what they did with those :D

What's the story with companions? The free trial never lasted long enough for me to actually get a second one, but I assume you're limited to one at a time. Are they pretty much just flavour as the game goes on, or do they legitimately contribute to a fight? And if so, is the general balance of companions decent? Are they there even in flashpoints or group... whatever the Fuck group quest bullshit is called?

Companions add to your character's story in a few a ways. During cutscenes they may respond to your responses. Depending on your choice they may either agree with you, dislike your choice or sometimes insert the comedic relief (see Guss Tuno). They also help you during combat in many ways. Usually your starting companion is either a Tank or DPS spec (Bounty Hunters get a healer) so that they can aggro mobs and you can lay down the killing blows. The final use of companions is your crew skills aka Crafting.

Each companion that you get has a certain bonus to either mat gathering or crafting skill. This helps in trying to get rare mats or even getting bonuses on crafted items. All you do is just send your companion off on a gathering or crafting mission and await for their return. Crafting is great for getting items for your self/ship/companion and a great way to sell things on the GTN (swtor market system).

Companions also a very fond of gifts, the higher their affection is to you (out of 1000) the better their return rate of gathering/crafting skills. They can also send you items/credits random just because of their fondness. You can also romance certain companions if you choose.

I am unsure if crafting is available to F2P players at the moment, but companions story wise are just as much apart of the story as the actual character that you play as. I just can't wait to get my HK-51 and have HK-51 duels with people :D I know I am going to grief a bunch of meatbags with him too. Already made all of his gear for him :D

Forgot to mention that your companions would need some serious gear (same as yours or better) to take with you into a flashpoint, but for heroics and Area missions they will do just fine. Companions are missing two item slots (two relics spots) so their end game stats will never measure up to what a player will have, but you can still deck them out with some serious gear.

/edit: Heroics are repeatable side missions on every planet. These missions require 2 or more players to complete and may even require some actual strategy. Drops are usually blue and above for the level that the mission states. Area missions are obtained as you gradually walk into a new area. These missions will need a full party and some may even need two full parties. Drops are similar to Heroics, you want to be doing this missions for gear, social points and for more experience.

Yeah, I know that they have their little dialogues and crafting shit and what-not. Just wondering how generally useful they are. Like, are the little pistol-wielding droids and twileks that the Guardian/Evil Guardian start with completely overshadowed by roided out wookiees and killbots later on?

And if you spec as, say, "guy with lots of healing and maybe some buffs or some shit", will a tanking or DPS-based companion give you enough punch to actually carry on, or is that sort of spec only viable when playing with other people?

A companion's effectiveness is based on gear. Each companion is the same level as you regardless if you use them or not. This allows the user to select their companion purely for preference without any complications due to level (though gear is still an important factor). During your story line progression they are certainly useful in your success, sometimes mandatory to your success.

Your buffs can be used on your companions. On my Scoundrel that is healing spec I have my dps Risha just dish out all the damage while I heal her. Not the most ideal playstyle, but she certainly can get the job done better than me. I can roll through end game dailies with just a companion if I need too.

You don't need to worry too much about your companions, gearing them out is more of a late game deal. Just keep your favorite companion out when you do your storyline cutscenes and that is where you will get he most out of them. You are much better off grouping with people than to depend on a companion.

Point of information, you can form groups at ANY time. Even your storyline stuff can be completed with a group, sometimes it maybe even needed if the boss is too hard for your current spec.

/edit: Updated the third post with Free to Play info.
