Frequently Asked Questions

Q: It says that the game is on sale today, but I just checked and it's still full price. When is it on sale?
A: That's probably because you're checking the store well before the update happens. Updates typically happen between 4-7 PM EST on Tuesdays, so please check back then. Somebody will probably mention that it's live in this thread when it's available, just in case you're lazy.

Q: Where else can I buy PSN content besides the PlayStation Stores on my PS3 or PSP?
A: Media Go is Sony's media manager program that lets you browse and buy stuff off of just the PSP's PS Store. GameStop.com offers PS3 and PSP games and DLC on their websites along with letting you buy that stuff in their stores. GameStop will give you a code after purchase that can be redeemed either in the PS Store or under Account Management on the XMB. If you want to redeem a code from wherever you are, www.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com is the best place to do so.

Q: Does GameStop adjust their prices to reflect new sales?
A: Permanent price drops are usually reflected by GameStop, but sales usually are not acknowledged.

Q: Would you mind listing the previous deals so I can see if a game I'm considering is a frequent sale item or not?
A: Since that would be a lot of work, I have a simpler solution that will give you access to the past few years' worth of sales. Just go over to the What's in the PS Store thread I run in the PS3 forum and click on the "Search This Thread" button right above the first post on the right and type in the name of the game you're interested in. The results should let you see if that game has been on sale at any point in the past few years and give you an idea of whether it's better to get the game now or wait for a sale.

Q: When does a deal actually expire, as far as the last moment that I can grab the game at the sale price?
A: All sales end when the next update happens, which would be probably about an hour before the update actually appears in the New Releases section of the store. Since there isn't a set time for updates to happen, it would be in your best interest to not be putting off getting a game on sale for that long to have to worry about this issue.

Q: I'm interested in PlayStation Plus. Do I keep any games that go on sale for PlayStation Plus members?
A: Yes, anything you pay money for as a PS+ member is yours to keep forever. Most of the free content is attached to the subscription and expires once that sub lapses, but anything you buy is like every other purchase on PSN and is attached to your account and is playable forever.

Q: I'm interested in PlayStation Plus. Do I keep the games that are taken down from the PS+ section of the PS Store?
A: Yes, you can keep playing those games for the length of your subscription. There's no need to rush yourself to beat those games within the month unless you're just enjoying it that much.

Q: I'm interested in PlayStation Plus. Do I keep all of these games forever? What if I re-subscribe after letting it lapse?
A: Unfortunately, no. You can only play them for as long as you have a PS+ membership, though games you buy with a discount are yours forever. If your sub lapses at all, re-subscribe will give you access to all of the games you previously had, so there's no reason to not grab them when they arrive.

Q: I noticed that some of my PlayStation Plus games do not have an expiration date on them. Are they mine to keep forever?
A: Unless you bought them, they all have expiration dates. The free titles that don't have expiration dates are those where you got a demo and an unlock key, which behaves differently than the normal games you usually get with PS+. If you let your sub lapse, the unlock key expires and you're left with just the demo taunting you about what you once had. You can log in on http://www.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com to double check that if you want to be sure.

Q: How many times am I allowed to redownload content that I've purchased?
A: Any games you've purchased can be downloaded as much as you want on up to two systems at once for anything beyond 11/18/11, so you can delete games whenever you need room and redownload them when you need them again easily. Everything you purchased before 11/18/11 still adheres to the original five system limit. Videos are a bit different in that your ownership of them expires once you download an item from the video store and delete it, though you're free to back-up that video to your PSP and then to your PC via Media Go.

Q: Are PSP Games playable on the PS3?
A: No, the only games playable on the PSP and PS3 are PS1 Classics, PS1 Imports, and PlayStation Minis at the moment.

Q: Can I pay exact change for PSN content?
A: Yes, though you need to at least have $5 worth of items to be able to pay exact change. This is done so that Sony isn't pay credit card fees on small $1 purchases, so if you don't have anything to push the total of the items in your cart above $5, you'll just get the difference in credit on your account that can be applied to future purchases.

Q: Can you explain the terminology that you use here?
A: I usually add something after the sale price to indicate what kind of sale it is. Permanent Price Drop is a permanent drop in price, so this is the new base price for this item. Temporary Sale is a sale whose expiration date is not specified in the PS Blog post or by the publisher/developer, but most of these sales end after one week. Persistent Deals are PlayStation Plus deals that are always available to PlayStation Plus members and are usually adjusted when they go on sale to everybody else, so you probably shouldn't jump on them right away as a member.

Q: Can you break down the format you use for these deals?
A: Game Name - Add-on Name or Platform if Not PS3-only - Price - Sale Modifier or Additional Info

Q: Can I post here about getting people for my gameshare group?
A: No, there is a dedicated thread for gamesharing, so I'd prefer that you use the thread for it rather than filling up this thread with gameshare requests. Also, I'm not interested in gamesharing myself, so please don't send me PMs asking if I want to join your gameshare group.

Feel free to ask questions or pose questions that I should add to the FAQ. Thanks.

People were asking about Persona 3 FES/P3Portable in the other thread and didn't really get the full story.

There are reports of P3Fes corrupting saves randomly. Doesn't happen to everyone, but you'll be rolling dice with it.

Persona 3 Portable is the only version that lets you have full control over all your party members...it's on A.I. otherwise.

The cursor in P3Portable when navigating the daytime world is so much better than controlling a character. You are in the same areas the whole game, you always know where you want to go, and that slow run speed adds hours onto the game. It's way faster to just point a cursor and quickly do things during the daytime. You can also warp around everywhere, with more options than P3FES on PS2.

First page!

I'm curious as to why Cheapy shut down the other thread? Is it just because of its size?

Really pissed that I missed the Portal 2 sale for PS+. Had it in my cart but was waiting a couple of days to get it. Didn't realized it was for only one week. F@#K!

It may feel more like a visual novel at times than the PS2 version, but it makes getting around locations MUCH easier & faster, especially if you're doing side-quests outside of the dungeons. & while it sucks the anime cutscenes were cut down to just some screencaps, I'd still say that P3P is perhaps the best version of P3 out there.

.....& now I remembered P4G is out next Tuesday & I gotta wait for my copy (Solid Gold edition!) to arrive.

Was that a Black Friday sale, per se, or was that the Best of 2011 sale?

Probably because the last was too hospitable.

I know it was up to around 500 pages. I think the CAG forum has a page limit for threads. Not sure though.

There should be a sale next week, that would be my guess. I can almost guarantee that there WON'T be any one-day black friday deals.

well, it is basically visual novel + dungeon crawler. The fact that you have a character to move around during the daytime is basically a formality

I'm excited to play P4G, but I'm only 7 hours into P3P. Might get around to P4 next year sometime.

I can vouch for the Persona 3:FES save game bug when I was playing my DISK version on a Backwards compatible ps3. I lost my 30 hour save file. When I started over it happened again at the 20-hour mark but i was perpared and was saving onto 2 save slots each time I wanted to save.

If you guys want to make sure it doesn't happen to you, do this. Save the game. When the save is complete, Go to save again and check if your save file is still there or if it got corrupt during the save because that is how it happens. That is how I caught it the second time my file got corrupt. If it got corrupt, just make a new save.

Hope this helps.

Hoping my PS3 gets back from the Sony repair soon so I can take advantage of whatever upcoming deals there are.

Hey, Choplifter HD is on sale (which I doubt I'll be able to take advantage of). Was that one of the free Plus games this summer or was it on sale previously?

I hope amazon doesn't screw up my Solid Gold copy. RPGs on consoles are fun but there's something about playing a good, long RPG on a handheld that just works for me.

It was free this summer when the IGC launched. It's not too bad of a game.

Apparently the Playstation blogcast says that the bullet-hell game Sine Mora is coming to Vita and PS3 next week - November 20th. Looks excellent.

Nope, they're the same. Almost all of them revolve around ranking up to different levels in the game. But each rank requires several different things done in game, including a lot of score based challenges and no-death challenges. Looks like only 29 of the 1700 people who have the game on TrueAchievements have unlocked all the achievements in it. So not impossible, but it's gonna take some dedication.

Bleh. I had a question in the last post of the old thread, but it got locked and passed over.

With digital PSN games I know you can delete the game and keep your save, but with digital Vita games, is that still possible? Or are you completely on the hook for the full size of the game?

As of right now, without PS+, if you delete a digital game off your Vita the save goes bye-bye. The only way to prevent that from happening is to use the content manager and backup the game to your PC or PS3. Now, in theory once PS+ gets turned on, you'll be able to backup your saved game to the cloud and delete the game off your memory card and be golden.

Hopefully at some point they'll add the ability to manage your saved game separately from the game itself, but currently it's not possible.
Really pissed that I missed the Portal 2 sale for PS+. Had it in my cart but was waiting a couple of days to get it. Didn't realized it was for only one week. F@#K!
Someone posted this in the Target Clearance Thread:
Portal 2 PS3 $8.98
Ymmv, of course.

Sine Mora will not be a cross buy title (just a heads up).

Digital Reality answered the question today on Facebook with a “unfortunately, no”.

The reason behind this is that the games have different feature sets.

"The PlayStation 3 and Vita versions have different content – while the Vita is extended when compared to the XBLA or Steam versions, the “ultimate” version is on PS3 – more about this soon!"

Even though that hasn't been mentioned as part of the newest firmware I'm wondering if it's included, but just hasn't been mentioned. Seems to me that you would have to have the saves separated from the game data to upload it. But, I could be wrong. It's just me guessing.
Wait a minute. What the fuck is going on here? Where are all of the pages/posts/information contained therein?
Not sure if serious....8-[

CheapyD started a new thread. I assume the old thread is archived away somewhere...

Why would I not be serious? I just got home and clicked on what I thought was the normal thread, but it had next to no posts. I thought something had happened that caused the mods to delete almost everything, which would've pissed me off to no end, but looking at my subscription list, it looks like Cheapy managed to create a new thread with the OP that I was somehow already subscribed to. That's confusing to come home to when I go to see what posts have been made since I last saw it and see the OP where it shouldn't be.
