Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! Thanks for putting out a show for us to enjoy over the holidays!

Merry Christmas guys.

It's a little disappointing that the Wii U game pad does have lag as a universal remote. But at least that's understandable and a software update can't fix. I'm amazed that the Wii Remote could act like a universal tv controller back when the Wii TV Channel was still on. I guess the TVii is just an improvement on that, though it might be even better one day.

What is the tv/movie match app that Cheapie was talking about for searching through Hulu / Netflix / etc? I couldn't understand what he was saying.

Wombat,
During the Fat Albert discussion, you mentioned Weird Donald. There was Weird Harold, and Dumb Donald. Kind of sad that I still remember that.
Thanks for all the great pocdasts in 2012. You guys came 7th out of 60 on the NeoGAF Podcast of the Year poll which is a very respectable finish.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=505219&highlight=podcast+year

Persona 4 Golden is the reason to own a Vita, but I don't know if any of you guys would really get into it. Maybe Shipwerck would if he had 80 hours to spare.
I've already played Persona 4 on PS2. Really good game, but way too long for me to play it again on Vita.

Yeah, I dunno if I want to revisit that game when it will be mostly the same content.

And I'm surprised by Cheapy's complaints about USB cables. I use an extension cable that I bought on mono price on my Ps3 controllers.

The price of the Vita vs NeoGeoX feedback:

People need to remember that in addition to the Vita hardware itself, you also need to pay for the overpriced memory cards and buy the games separately.

For the NeoGeoX, you get a bunch of games included with the handheld. Sure it's a "meganerd" device cuz of the price but it's not a bad value if you plan on buying all the games on Wii VC or in those SNK compilation disks. But yea, it's a novelty for a niche audience and should be viewed that way.

Wombat was pretty spot on.

PS3 controller should work with any mini USB cable, you can buy a 6 foot amazon one for like $5.50 on amazon.

Or you can buy a charging dock (I bought one for $15 a couple of years ago) and alternate. Play one until it goes dead, then put the dead one on the charger, and pull the fresh one off the charger.

edit 1:
On the PS store redesign, when I first installed it, it was slower, but I think in the interim they have improved the performance. What annoys the hell out of me about it is they took all this time to rebuild the interface from the ground up and they didn't add any way to filter or sort your "my downloads" list.

I still heartily disagree with Cheapy wanting batteries in the PS4 controller. I much, much prefer the PS3's charging system to the 360's. Having to buy batteries or a rechargeable battery pack/charging station is not something I want to do. Plugging in the controller every now in then while playing is not a inconvenience to me in the slightest. Is Cheapy's issue not being able to be close enough for the cord to reach the controller? I can't fathom any other issue with this...

EDIT: It's funny to me that Wombat mentioned the Pitch Perfect movie - my family watched that on Christmas (mom's choice). And we all hated it, even my mom, who loves music. So... it's not for every music lover.

Also, about XCOM... when my friends and I played, we created a squad of each other. And if one of the guys died, we would just reload. Yeah, I guess it's a cheap way of playing, but we didn't care. Like Wombat said, losing a leveled up guy and then having to use rookies sucks. So we didn't bother with that, and just reloaded on a death.

Last edit: What was with the ending music? It played over you guys talking.

Great show as always guys. I hate to say it but I was in the "is Wombat leaving" camp due to his starring on another podcast but I figured what the heck; cheapy seems to be happy with Wombat promoting this other show on CAG so Wombat must be one of those dudes who is happy juggling two balls err podcasts at once. Of course, that didn't stop me from having a fantasy about Cheapy and Ship interviewing potential Wombat replacements from the ranks of CAGers but whatever.

@Wombat

Would you recommend for people to attend cooking demonstration shows like the one you went to but with straight tickets as opposed to having the VIP treatment you had? I.E. were the ticket holders drinking beers and sampling the food too or was it just the VIP back stage passers who got the goods? I don't think I would want to pay to watch a celebrity chef cook and not be able to sample any of what she/he was cooking. That said, my significant other has been needling me to take her to a celebrity chef cooking demonstration for some time now...

@Jasper

Have to agree with you dude. I have a launch PS3 SIXAXIS that still works/charges fine. I probably have two other dualshocks that were paid for via my not having to replace batteries like I do with the 360 controller. Sounds like somebody should have bought Cheapy a charging station cradle for xmas.

@Lik

I'm sorry bud but no way the NeoGeoX has more value than the Vita. 1st: Most popular NeoGeo games are available on the PSN and while I don't know if they're made playable on Vita, yet, they eventually will be coming to Vita. While no Vita games are going to be coming to NGX. 2nd. It appears that all Vita bundles going forward will include a 4GB memory card or at the very least you can get the 4GB card dirt cheap. 3rd: Playstation Plus.

Like I said, the NeoGeoX is purely a niche item for nostalgia and collectors. Wombat was correct that the Vita is expensive for the masses as whole even with the "dirt cheap" memory cards and PS+ sub. I am not comparing them directly as competition against each other.

If you're a really big fan and like Trophies it's worth it, but it is mostly the same content.

Ok fair 'nuff. Of course, I'm coming from the perspective of a CAGcast listener who wants to get Vita news instead of hearing buddies wax nostalgic over a new system that plays 20 year old games that I can barely remember playing in the arcade back in the 1990s.

Thanks for the show guys!

First let me say that I've tried to listen to other podcasts, like bombcast, and they have 4+ people all talking over each other. I don't like that podcast, jumbled mess with 30-min talks of a crap game I don't care about. You 3 were always great with your dynamic. 6th place on neogaf? Well that's gaf for you, CAGcast top podcast imo.

But this episode, you guys had a lot of "talking over each other" with interruptions, etc. It was a bit distracting, then awkward pauses as a result waiting to see if others would chime in. I'll say it was probably due to Shipwreck+Wombat getting new mics, that repeat what you say in your headphones? Maybe you should turn that off. I've noticed Cheapy was the only one to do it in previous CAGcasts, hearing yourself could be distracting when trying to get a feel for when your other co-hosts want to chime in. Other podcasters are usually in same room and still fail, so take my input with a grain of salt :)

P.S. Batteries in your controllers in 2012-2013, you are insane. WiiU does it even more wrong, but that's another issue. Just charge the controller you are not using, then swap them as charge goes down. You said you had 2, this should be a non-issue for you.

FYI on the 360 you can plug it in to charge it as well with the play and charge kit. It does cost more, but I like having the option to do what I want - charge by cord or not. I also prefer the 360 version because I don't want to have to take my controller apart to change the battery when it won't hold a charge.

Also, my launch PS3 controllers (no rumble) won't hold a charge. Maybe due to the fact that I don't play PS3 as much and the battery doesn't get used as much, or would that make it last longer - I don't know, but if it is due to not using it, this may explain why some people's batteries don't last as long.

Good show. I don't understand the love for the walking dead. The story is good but that doesn't make up for the lackluster gameplay. I know its easier to tell that kind of story in a point and click adventure game but the walking dead story with Dead Rising or Dead Island gameplay would be awesome.

I had to Google "Robert Irvine straight jacket" when I got home last night after listening to the CAGcast because I couldn't tell if Wombat was joking or not since no one on the show laughed. Thanks for adding that to my search history.
Merry Christmas guys! Who idea was it to do a show on Christmas day you guys are CRAZY!
They recorded it in the previous week. That's when Cheapy had originally asked for CAGbag questions (which they didn't get to).

When I was younger, I had a GBA. Making sure that thing had working batteries was a pain in the ass. Then, I got the DS. Wow, what an improvement! If the battery was getting low, I'd just plug it into the wall and I could keep on playing. Nowadays, I am still annoyed with having to use batteries.

The PS3 does it right! If I am playing a game and the controller starts to die, I just plug it in and can continue playing. With the Xbox 360, I have to pause the game and search the house for new batteries. Or, I have to go check to see if any of the rechargeable batteries are charged and switch them out. But, those seem to disconnect on me for no reason, and they never last as long.

I got so annoyed with batteries in my wireless Xbox 360 controller, that I went out and bought a wired controller. Best decision ever! Putting batteries in the PS4 controllers would NOT be an improvement, but a downgrade.

They sold rechargeable battery packs that you could charge with a cord, just like a ps3 controller. Honestly this is the way to go because if the battery starts to go bad, you can replace it easily, unlike the PS3 battery. That said, the PS3 batteries on my 07 system are still doing just fine.

Cheapy, although I have to disagree on controller batteries, I completely understand your stance. You've got a sweet-ass home theater setup with your console half a mile away from your couch, and when the controller dies, you wanna just swap out a battery dealy and keep going. But if you love me, ya gotta get get those USB cables for your PS3.

Like most of your shows I noticed a joke that wombat threw out that was not acknowledged. Time travel was brought up and Wombat asked if everyone was named Calvin Klein. It took me a few seconds for it to register and made me smile, so I'm just hear to let Wombat know that I got it. Not sure if Ship and Cheap didnt hear you, thought it wasn't funny, dont like you, or all of the above. I'm going with all of the above. ;)

Where the hell is Shipwreck from? 3 hours from Cincy into KY is my neck of the woods, depending on which direction he's going. SE KY and W KY are the only places 3 hours out from Cincy.

Please all stick with X-Com. It really is a fantastic game!

Anyway, I wanted to add to the discussion on the PS Store. It's interesting that Ship likes the new PS store, because I agree with the person that asked the question - on the whole they made the store worse. Don't get me wrong, I like the pretty overlay image thing. And the new design does make it clearer that they sell movies and TV shows too, which I suppose is the main point of the re-design.

However, I think it is a lot slower - especially the filter search. And that really annoys me. Actually, what I really want is a quick way to see what is new for the games I own. Then if there is new DLC for a game I like, I can buy it right away. I don't like having to go look up each game to check. Especially with that crappy filter system.

What do others think of the new store?

That's what I love about the 360 controllers. Plus its a pretty versatile setup - you can basically chose how you want it to work: regular batteries, your own rechargeables, a rechargeable pack, or a play and charge kit. Personally I just have a quick charger and slap in a fresh pack when my current pack dies.

For my PS3 controllers I just hook'em up to my pc's usb hub. I can't stand having my controller hooked up to the PS3 while trying to play from the couch.

on the show they talk about not really caring about the vita in my point of view sony needs to give up and home console market and just move to just handheld devices cause the ps3 was the most hackable and gliched console out there sony time and time agin has shown that there consoles are a second thought as to the handheld consoles have been the first as a gamer i found that after psx and ps2 sony have leaned to working harder on the psp and psvita the pspgo was not the best idea but was still a good peice of hardware so in all there are better consoles like PC and xbox and the wiiu out there in all Nintendo is the best of japan gaming and pc is a big platfrom for japaness games so in all sony home console is a dieing one and makeing a new console may be a bad idea as a gamer how love japaness games i have ad a lot of time with the Ps3 and Ps2, PSx ,psp, psvita i find that to me the handhelds run better and are what i have the most fun on i have play the psp and psvita for hours on end and the ps3 for just as long adn in my time i found it to be less fun on the ps3 the ps2 was a ok console it had fun games and not as many issuses tat all changed when it came to hacking when it comes to sony there are the most hacked gameing platform in the world but im going to stop at this cause in the end this is just what I think in all sony is to centered on internet and music and tv then on the games and gaming with a lot of better home console choices Like xbox and Pc and Nintendo there are better things to spend your money on this does not mean not to go for the handheld sony platforms with a host of good and hardcore games on a handhelds sony has one of the best handhelp market but price is to shy away from and in the end Nintendo can has just as many hardcore handheld games like 999 and more in all it caome down to price and hard ware.....and the fact i have no life cause i just typed all thing for no realy reason >.

Just a heads up Cheapy, regarding your PS3 controllers. You can charge them up via your laptop. My laptop is near where I sit when I game, so I just plug my controller into there to charge while I game. I've tried one of those mophie external batteries that I use for my iPhone and iPad, but that doesnt work.

I would like to report animefreak5445 to the grammar police. That is, hands down, the worst use of punctuation I've ever seen in my life. Can a moderator clean that up please?

@ tdog and animefreak5445

I have to say that reading animefreak5445's post gave me a headache. It reminded me of reading Virginia Woolf - and that is not a good thing.

"Stream-of-consciousness writing is usually regarded as a special form of interior monologue and is characterized by associative leaps in thought and lack of punctuation."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_of_consciousness_(narrative_mode)

Anyway, I think what animefreak was trying to say was:

In my view, Sony should actually give up on the PS3 (and PS4) and just focus on handheld devices, because they are more fun to play and have fewer problems. I think this would help Sony because they are trying to do too many things - such as music and TV, and can't sort out all the issues with the PS3. However, they need to do something about their prices too.

Is that about right?

If so, I disagree. A lot. I think everyone knows the Vita is not doing well (despite being pretty good), whereas the PS3 is doing very well after a slow start. As long as Sony gets the PS4 out around the same times as the next Xbox and doesn't set the price too high, it should hopefully do alright. Just focusing on handhelds would basically be suicide for Sony.

Sadly, I think Sony got a lot of things wrong with the Vita. Mainly assuming that everyone would be prepared to pay so much for the games. I think they are finally getting some cheaper, smaller games out now - games perfect for handheld devices. But I just think most people would rather just play games on their phones than pay for a new gadget.

That's a generous five yards for Roth. (For all of you Tony Gonzalez Limited Jersey who started him as a running back in your fantasy league, be sure to thank the official scorer.)?Watching this play live, I thought there was a Tony Gonzalez White Jersey chance he could go all Earl Campbell and bounce off some smaller guys for a touchdown. Evidently, he thought different. In the Cowboys' thrilling win over the Dolphins on Thursday, Jason Witten had four catches for 43 yards, zero touchdowns and one cheerleader. When running out of bounds in the first play of the fourth quarter, Witten's 6-foot-6, 265-lb. frame couldn't stop running in time to avoid a gaggle of cheerleaders. Though most of Julio Jones Impact Jersey the women run away in time, one cheerleader can't avoid Witten's arm.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, another one of the Reggie Wayne Authentic Jersey Reggie Wayne Colts Jersey violators who was sternly advised, was incensed by Roan's crew early in Sunday's 24-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, when Roan called an illegal block ... on the kicking team. Unsure in retrospect how a Andrew Luck Official Jersey kicking team could block in the first place, Roan tried to cover his backside by saying that "By rule, there is no flag on the play."

"Yeah, we tried to hook up with him and we couldn't make it come together. We tried to fit in to their Randall Cobb Impact Jersey schedule that looked like it had some space in it, but there wasn't enough. So we made an effort. It's kind of just classic for us just competing to try to find a Aaron Rodgers Grey Shadow Jersey way and we Jordy Nelson Game Jersey just couldn't pull it off at that time. We had to take a shot at that. It didn't work out for us there. We had already spoken before that and we just couldn't quite get together on it."
