GetGamesGo.com has a preorder of Aliens Colonial Marines for $38.49 which is 23% off the standard price. I received an email this morning with the code: LV-426

that currently stacks with the already in place discount, to bring the total to $30.49. Talk amongst yourselves.

Edit: My only reason for not immediately pulling the trigger, even though I'm a HUGE Alien fan, is the fear that Gearbox is delivering another Duke Nukem Forever and I don't want to even pay $30 for a game that might suck. The recent gameplay trailers and other media were not very good looking, in my book.

You can't blame Gearbox for Duke Nukem Forever, 3D Realms worked on it until they lost the license and Gearbox merely just added a small bit of "polish" without sacrificing much if any man hours on it and released it like so. So most of the gameplay issues and much else about the game is 3D Realms. Aliens was done entirely by Gearbox so I doubt it'll be bad and won't be anywhere near the mess that Duke Nukem was.

Plus there's no way Duke Nukem could've survived past the 90's in anycase. He's a byproduct of his time and all the characteristics of both the character and environment of the game just doesn't work anymore.

My only retort to that is: A bad game is still a bad game. If Gearbox saw what Forever was before adding their work to it and still thought it was worth releasing, that doesn't make me feel any better. Nostalgia can cloud common sense.

I mean, ACM has been in production for awhile now and their gameplay footage certainly isn't blowing me away.

I agree. Wasn't Aliens: CM in talks/production for about as long as Dukem too?

I can't find the specifics, but I'm pretty sure it's been in development something like 6 or 7 years just at Gearbox. There was an earlier version of ACM that was supposed to release in 2001 or 2002. I remember, because I preordered it then and was really bummed when I heard about the delay.

That may be what I'm thinking of, the older one. Either way, I think I'll be waiting on an Amazon or Steam sale for it. Good post though, I appreciate it. I forget about Get Games Go most of the time.

I don't post many threads, so I was really surprised to see someone hadn't already started one for this deal. But, like you, I'll probably wait til a post release sale comes along.

I posted a thread last night with this deal and for some reason it was deleted today.

Glad more people are getting in on the deal. PC version is definitely the best.

From what I understand finishing & shipping DNF was part of their deal for aquiring the Duke IP. I believe Randy did this in order to have the chance to create a proper modern Duke game.

Gearbox shouldnt be judged for DNF. Like others have said, it changed hands and teams so many times that they were basically doing the gaming community a "service" by making sure it saw the light of day. Since I grew up playing all the Duke Nukem games, including the old side scrollers I actually enjoyed DNF in a nostalgic sense.

That being said, I already have this game preloaded from GMG and have very very high hopes for it as I am a huge fan of the Alien IP

Not a fan of Borderlands? Or Brother in Arms I'm assuming, or their original Half Life expansions (lets forget about the ps2 version)? They really dont have many games to judge from, but aside from DNF (which they diidn't make) I'd say they were all well done

even with the that coupon $30 is a good deal imo but the impressions i read from neogaf are good at all. i love Alien and Aliens i've only seen bits and pieces of the others on cable etc. So i might also wait for anything lower than $30 unless the reviews are great for it.

Yeah, I'd agree this one has a pretty good chance at a deep drop by summer or fall.

Game over man, game over. This game is getting dragged through the mud, as tempting as $30 was for it, glad I didn't bite.

But hey .. EGM gave it a 9 out of 10 (lol ... poor EGM)

Why's it so hard to make a good Aliens game? I guess I'll just reinstall AvP 2010 or just watch the movies. Does anyone know where I can get AvP2?

Edit: Nevermind. Just bought a copy of AvP2 off an Amazon merchant for $6.

Someone just pointed out to me that Gearbox didn't have a thing to do with the entire singleplayer portion of the Aliens: Colonial Marines - they just worked on the multiplayer portion. It seems that Timegate Studios is responsible for that.

Funny that Timegate isn't even mentioned (that I saw) on the official site http://www.sega.com/...olonialmarines/ but if you go to Timegate Studios you'll see their name credited http://www.timegate.com/.

That all seems a bit misleading to me...

Edit: here's more: http://www.eurogamer...-studios-report

Comments from an ex-Gearbox developer dug up by Superannuation suggest that the majority of the game was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, developer of downloadable console shooter Section 8: Prejudice and various FEAR expansion packs.

"Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines," the ex-dev wrote last year. "I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, six years now?

"Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past."

Gearbox is 100% responsible for the failure of Aliens Colonial Marines and Randy Pitchford is starting to look more and more like a big POS with every Gearbox release that isn't a Borderlands IP.
