I just now found out about the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset for PC gaming (will not work with 360 or PS3, because current consoles lack the processing power to process 2 seperate 3d monitors at 720p, but will most likely be usable with the 720 and PS4)
The Oculus Rift developer kit will be released in April 2013 (will start shipping in March) and includes the Virtual Reality headset and Oculus SDK kit which will able you to implement this into a game you developed or are developing and able to explore your game world in full 3d immersion. The Oculus Rift also comes with the Unreal engine and Unity SDK day one (most popular engines for indie development) so explore the game worlds day one out the box. The Oculus will work with about any computer, so no minimal specs required, but performace will be better of course with better spec computers.
Release: April 2013 (Developer kit) $300
Projected cost for consumer release: $200-$300
The Oculus Rift will be demoed on the Late Night with Jimmie Fallon show on Wed night 1/30/2013. After reading what this device does and can do with future development support, the sky is the limit.
Here is the official website for Oculus Rift VR headset (has a FAQ, and if you wanted to purchase a development kit)

Here is a youtube video of the device being demoed, and explained by Oculus reps of different device features, gives you a great idea of what it does.

After watching that video, imagine playing Skyrim with the Oculus Rift......That would be Amazing, Also the Oculus RIft has no borders (The optics are larger then your eyes, so cant see edge of eye monitors) and full headtracking (Your game character looks up,down, left, right, behind whenever you do, which means complete 100% immersion.
