I figured it out. You have to hold the map/voice button and the audio power button for a few seconds to turn the system off.

Ok I'm finally getting around to buying my new car. Is there a particular service you guys recommend to email all dealers in the area? Or do I have to contact them one by one?

I know the exact two cars I'm interested in: one of the forester touring models.

I'm 100% shocked that books still exist in today's day and age. I thought they'd be out by now. They make up like 1% of today's entertainment and unless you're 60 or older, stray away from books and start emersing yourself with real entertainment.

Just gather quotes in a 50~75 mile range, go with the lowest one.  Start hitting up subaru dealers and have someone either match it or go 3~5% under it.

There are no shortcuts. No do-overs. What happened, happened. Trust me. I know. All of this matters.

In addition to irideabike's suggestion, I think that jumping on the largest forum for the car you're looking at to get an idea of true dealer cost is worth exploring. The enthusiast forums generally have an invoice price sheet with all holdbacks to help with figuring out a rock-bottom price. Also, I think cars.com and/or edmunds.com shoots out a request for quotes from all dealers in a specified area if you go through their sites. Oh, and make sure you give a google voice number so they don't call and bug you. :D

Good luck and don't forget to post pics of the new ride!

By the way, if anyone is in the market for a new car, there is a service that I was hoping to exist. It's called CarWoo and you basically just put in the car you want and they send it out to dealers for you.  Then they all compete to get your business.

I didn't actually end up buying from anyone on carwoo because nobody had the exact car I wanted (I was too specific) but it was a nifty service nonetheless

I like carwoo in theory. I tried it a few times however the prices they got me were never better than what I could get with competitive bidding by calling up multiple dealers myself and asking for out the door pricing.

That's true but I think the whole point is to weed out dealers for you. You can still negotiate after that first offer. I wasted so much time contacting dealers. For my next car, if its more "off the rack", I'm definitely using carwoo to do my initial leg work.

fair enough. Like I said I like the idea and loathe car salesmen. I genenerally as long as you hit up the internet or fleet sales manager you won't have too many issues.

Here's some car porn for you dohdough.   I'm not much of a car guy but this seems to excite my friends:

By the way, the auto dimming mirrors are fantastic.  I sprung for both the rearview and side view dimming.

You know what's funny? When I was car shopping for a TSX before I got my RSX, I actually didn't like the auto-dimming mirrors at all because it was way too dark. I guess having everyone's light killing my eyes for 5 years really changed my tune...haha. Now I'm wishing they made auto-dimming side mirrors for my car! Officially jelly here. :D

How are you liking the ride so far?

Pretty nice.   I haven't had a chance to really *drive* it.   Maybe this weekend.

When I had my acura, it felt like a luxury car.  The Forester just seems like a wagon or cuv and they just threw some leather and a navi system in it.    Everything is really nice, there's no part of it that you think "this is cheap" but it doesn't make you think "luxury" -- I guess that's not the market for subarus anyway.    I do feel really safe in it though and the sightlines are fantastic.

The turbo is pretty responsive... and I'm not even in sport mode yet.  I'm glad I got the turbo even if gas is 30 cents a gallon more.  Bah.

A lot of great info in this thread. I was looking at a Jetta SE and VW has a 0% offer till the 31st. Sales guy told me I'd get a better price if I don't finance it at their 0% offer. Is that right? I thought you'd negotiate a price and if you qualify for the best rate, the price is what it is. Any good sites people here recommend for finding what is a fair/good price? I was looking at kbb.com. I assume the fair price is just the car, not any out the door price.

edmunds.com.

They also list the manufacturer-to-dealer holdbacks/incentives as well. That way, you can negotiate an even better price.

Is the car new or used? I'd be a little leery of the financing thing unless they break out the paper work with your monthly payments being lower over the same term as the 0% financing. It sounds more like they want you to finance at one of their partner banks to get more commission. It's not a huge deal, but you just have to make sure that the math is right.

I'd only finance with them if it is at 0%. It is a new car. So the price should be the price, regardless of what interest rate they wanna give you?  Thanks!

Correct. If they are playing games, call up the next closest dealer. Ask them to match the price all in. Then see where the financing shakes out.

My guess is that there is some kind of rebate you can take in lieu of the zero percent financing, but the financing is usually the better deal, unless you have a lot of money down.

Calls this what you may, but I would say that Blacks actually benefited from the slavery. Comparing the current lives of many African Americans to Africans, one can see that the former live in much better conditions with greater freedoms and opportunities.
