CAGiversary!
SimCity - coming out March 5, 2013 (PC)

A.K.A. SimCity 2013/SimCity 5

It is a reboot of the original SimCity franchise

This is a new SimCity that delivers unprecedented depth of simulation. The model-like world and detail of the simulation make this the most responsive and personal SimCity ever. This is also the most expansive city management game yet where you can control a region that delivers true multi-city scale and play a single city or up to 16 cities at once each with different specializations. Multiplayer is also a first for the series, which adds a new dimension to your game as your decisions impact both your city and your region and creates new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements. Finally, SimCity is a live service that simulates real time updates from new challenges to new features and content

thought about getting this cause amazon was giving a 20 dollar coupon for physical copy. But instead i'll pick up tomb raider for 36 bucks. Hopefully this game drops fast im interested in it. But i can wait
last i checked it required origin.

not getting it /thread.
I'm sure people get sick of hearing this.

But, agreed. Origin is a deal killer for me.

I can always close Origin so that isnt a deal breaker for me, what bugs me is always having to be online. Also I think steam and origin are both evil but I have gotten use to it.

Yep, the Origin thing doesn't bother me so much as the always online. It's so damn shoehorned into this game that really comes across as nothing other than DRM.

i just got done playing the 4 hour beta tonight. I was not going to get this game till a price drop happend but after playing the beta tonight it's hard to night buy it day 1. The game is sooo good i was thinking it would get boring like the sims but it does not.

It has been a very long time since I have played a Sim City game.

Most likely will pick this up at one point in time. Now issues with Origin, service is not that bad, I just run everything through steam still.

I am glad someone started this thread because I was about to make it, lol. I will get it when it is cheaper. Orgin doesn't scare me. I played the beta and loved it. I was wondering if any CAGs want to get a region going? I want to do a tourism/casino with an electronics backed sister city.

I will after I get the hang of it. I havent played in a while so I dont want to hold you back (if it does). If it has 0 impact on you then I dont mind joining from the start.

This is a really interesting launch. I love how EA/Maxis spun the always-online DRM as a "live service," and I also love how a few game reviewers ran into server problems and lost access to their saves/cities for their reviews. And then there's the philosophical holdouts who refuse to kowtow to lousy DRM practices.

This thing is packed with drama. It'll be fun to see how all of this shakes out.

EDIT: I was reading around about this launch and at the /r/simcity at reddit some users noted that the physical copy of the game only has 2 GB and requires a full 10 GB download if you want to boot into the game. EA says suck it, no bandwidth havin hillbillies.

That isnt a dealbreaker for me with downloading as sadly that is how every game is now. What concerns me is the drm problem.

I didn't raise the point as a negative, only as evidence of the kind of thing that's going to piss off a lot of the philosophical holdouts even more.

There will be fireworks with this one. Hopefully.

Cynical Brit has a video, and it looks great. I should note around min 20 they start talking about that the problems with the game being that it almost requires multiplayer as the towns pause when you leave them. Also that the towns are kinda small.
Boom

I'm so torn on this game. I loved playing the betas, and the game was fun despite its scaled back... uhh.. scale, but I despise Origin and EA and the silly DRM-policies, especially with this game.

I don't know what to do. I know I've got Tomb Raider pre-loaded on Steam and waiting to play that in 30 minutes, so while I play that, I'll let SimCity launch and keep track of whats going on.

EA/Origin will probably need to work out server issues (and I'm sure there will be some). Plus hey, maybe the price will drop a bit or a deal will rear its head.

When I did actually get in, I was really enjoying it.

But this crap of having 1 server for the east coast and 1 for the West is ridiculous.

And the concept of saying "well its day 1" is even more crap.

Allegedly the beta was the stress test. Well.... It failed.

/rant

Add me on origin (scmoney360) if anybody wants to play next week or whenever all this stupidity is fixed.

Bah, I really want this game but I don't want to support and encourage EA's DRM and business practices.

Personally I think $60 is a lot of money for a game. And in this case they want another $20 for additional DLC content at launch which at least to me looks like it adds very little to the game. I understand the concept of collector's editions but I think $80 for basically what is the full version of the game is a bit ridiculous.

I haven't seen an online only game that didn't fail day one. With that said, EA should of known. These server issues are the reason always on drm is bad. What's sad is if you don't buy the game on the purpose of no always on DRM, most of the time that sends the message of no one wants the game (just not the DRM), and well no sequels get made thereafter. There has to be a better way to protest always online drm.

I have my game coming through mail and I will be playing it later, well assuming I can fucking get in.

I was planning on picking this up, but after reading this I think I will hold off for a few weeks.

Went to play this afternoon, no wait time.

The game is awsome. I wish there was a tiny bit more direction to start. I can't for the life of me find the buildings that construction has been approved. such as the coal mines, etc.

Amazingly detailed. As soon as I play around a bit and have some time to fix my profile, some Russian guy stole it apparently over the past year heh, I'll add my info to play.

Edit: Figured out the mines.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and pick it up. By the time everything installs and I'm able to play I will have to go to work.

I love paying $60 for a game only to be told sorry cannot create city, please try again. After spending over an hour patching.

fuck EA.

Wait, this is even more brilliant. The Tutorial Level wont fucking load. Yes it will bring me to the tutorial area but just sit there, not actually load the tutorial.

Today feels like total PC game win day. You guys can't play your new game and I can't play mine (Tomb Raider).

Sometimes you have to wonder what these companies are thinking. You would think that they look at other companies failures and ensure that their product doesn't have similar ones.

I wasn't going to buy this at launch or the next day or the next week. I was going to hold off until it got a little bit cheaper. 60 bucks is too much to pay for a PC game. Now that I here all of the this brohaha about the servers, I am glad I waited. I think the always on platform was a good idea unless you had the server power to back it up. What was the reasons for the betas? Stress Tests? Unlikely after what has happened. I feel sorry for Ocean and Stone and the rest of Maxis for falling in the hole EA dug. I still want the game tho because it was very fun. Yet, I don't mind waiting until the game I love gets on its feet.
user score 2.9 journalist score 9.1

this is why I dont read website reviews. Waste of time other than to go look at pictures as there is no integrity contained within.

Oh and EA might have reclaimed its worst game company title back from Activision.
Most "users" whine all to hell because they couldn't get on their server for a period of time, generally over 10 minutes. They then go and "break da balls" of the game via user reviews. Sure there are some bugs, but the game is no where near a 2.9. Hell to be honest before this Sim City I maybe have a total of 10 - 15 hours into all the others combined. This one I already have 10ish hours.

Though I am pissed. Just really got my city going with a bit over 100,000 pop. Meteor shower comes, GG's my whole city in the matter of 5 minutes. Oh and the water situation is annoying.

wait what? Online only drm with a single player game? Yeah I dont have to play the game to give it a 0.0.

Throw in the fact that you are limited to a tiny space to build your town as I wont even bother to call it a city as that would be misleading and I just dont have any interest. I have a ridiculous computer, the fact that you are limited on space probably due to server constraints is laughable.

Id like to think my 3930k with 16gb of quadchanneled 2133 ddr3 and a 7970GHZ could recreate Mexico City if I so chose at real scale with those graphics...

Instead we are left with Simville now with more facebook integration and microtransactions/dlc up the ass.

No thanks.

Metacritic is a bunch of people pissed off every time a PC port is either bad, always online DRM, or the game isn't exactly what *insert PC gamer here* wanted. Sure it's one thing to complain about the always on DRM, but from what I got from metacritic is people bitching that it's basically not a real life HD Sim City 4 with more buildings. I can't take their opinion seriously when most of them were just whining that Maxis tried something new instead of that HD Sim City port they wanted.

I mean critics are bad as well, but at least they will tell you both sides for the most part.

Does anyone know if game crashing is due to the servers being fucked, or is it my game itself?

In all fairness, the game is out and customers can't play the game. To me, every crappy review score it gets, it deserves.

Personally, I love the game, when it works.

First comment said it all, welcome to 2013. People will hate the online DRM yes, but in 5 years I'd bet most copies are no longer even in physical form. And always online single player? Servers went down mid-game for me yesterday, I kept playing with no issues. People giving 0.0's for never even playing because they don't like the option.

As for the cities, they already said they will be expanding the space. Sorry you didn't receive everything at launch

Microtransactions / dlc is pretty much a mute point too, it's here to stay and has been going on much longer than March 5, 2013.

Crashing as in freezing the computer, going to desktop, or something else?

The game can be a pain due to server overloads, I give you that, but it's something that will plague every game that requires them. Why, because when you have a game you don't buy 5000 servers for the first week to just need 2000 within a couple more. That's just tossing money out the window.

Going to the desktop. Start a city, 2-5 minutes later it was crashing to the desktop. Then I boot up the game all my city's progress is gone. I am assuming it's EA's servers?
i played 8am to 5pm yesterday, no problem.

hope all good today.
I think it was down from about 6:30PM to 7:15PM Central or so last night.
Any word on how things are today? Have the issues been resolved yet?
EA is rolling out server updates and both East Coast servers are down at the moment.

Having to be connected to servers to play games not is making me consider getting out of gaming. Name on Origin is Shazo85 if anyone wants to join.

It's not making me consider getting out of gaming either, it is making it easier not to spend money on new games and instead playing my ridiculous backlog spanning multiple generations at this point.
