Fire Emblem: Awakening - $34.96 @ Amazon

I hate that even 3DS games have DLC these days. If I knew there was some sort of complete edition somewhere down the line, I'd wait.

Then again, I need to buy a 3DS first.

Thanks for the notice. I've been waiting for a sale or discount on this for a while but it doesn't seem like it will get much cheaper for the time being.
Of course it goes down in price after spending a bit of time hunting for a used copy from AWD. OTL
You got a head start playing it though, right?

You have no idea how the DLC works for this game, do you?

There IS the Outrealm DLC to think about, though. Are they worth the money?
Apparently not. Is it free?
There's spotpass DLC, which is free characters, weapons, sidequests, and co-op missions. Then there's the paid DLC missions which seem to be more thought out(or something, I haven't bought any).

It depends on what you want.

There is a lot of free DLC right now. Bonus Box is free and it gives free maps, free challenges, free items, and characters. The DLC that can be purchased are for some exclusives that aren't even needed. What people purchase just depends on what they want. I don't know anyone who feels compelled to get them all.

...this guy does...

I always see people talking about waiting for this game to drop in price, this is as low as it's going to get for quite some time. Most stores can't even keep it in stock. Still. As for the DLC, I like all the free DLC, and I have yet to buy any of the missions. When they package some of them together, then I will be interested.
Amazon has Fire Emblem: Awakening for $34.96.

This is the lowest Amazon has had this game for. It's an excellent deal on an excellent game that rarely comes down in price! Get it NOW!
Perfect for my promotional balance

DS Fire Emblem eventually hit $15, so I'll wait.

It only sold 230,000, so the low stock is probably due to Nintendo intentionally keeping the supply low.
Why though?

It's a lot of stuff and some of them don't do much.
bought all the packs so far, still havent even completed my first run of the game.

I just like extending the game as long as possible, 6.50 a week seems reasonable to me just for the play time, But your right many of them really don't add much

So which dlc packs are recommended?

I'll wait for some price drops on this. It is first party, so it will never hit 'dirt-cheap' levels, but I can't spend this much on it. If it becomes super-scarce, I know a place back home that will have copies of it forever, so that will always be an option for me.
So which dlc packs are recommended?
so far I havent been able to play the Challenge pack at all, difficulty to high for my current party. I really recommend all but rank the packs in the following order:

Golden Pack, most in-game benefits
Scramble Pack, lots of dialogue
Future Past Pack
Lost Bloodline Pack/Smash bros Pack for dread and bride classes
Champions Pack
Rogues Pack, can't rank haven't completed all missions
Challenge Pack, cant rank haven't completed any missions
So which dlc packs are recommended?
I would say the golden gaffe is are the best dlc pack you can get while playing the campaign. It helps solve any issues of feeling like you might be too weak to take on a stage or not having enough money to buy gear since they break after usage. The game has a lot of characters you can recruit during the main story, the free dlc and in the side quests. I wouldn't recommend any other dlc packs to people right away as trying to level up your favorite characters is enough without having to buy more you may never use. The choice is yours to buy the optional dlc but you aren't missing out on anything besides earning a new character per pack and a few scenes of dialogue. So far it's been about $40 plus worth of additional content if you check out the in game store. I'm happy with all the extra content I bought as I love srpgs and the fire emblem series.

It probably won't hit $5, but $15-20 is a possibility considering that Paper Mario Sticker Star (which sold 3x more) and Pokemon Black & White 2 (10x more) hit $20 and $15 respectively. Fire Emblem on the DS also was $15 for quite awhile.

My concern for waiting too long for the price to drop any more is because of the scarcity of the game. Nintendo could stop making physical copies at any time with little to no warning, and continue the game's lifespan digitally; maximizing the profits for them.
So which dlc packs are recommended?
From my post in the previously closed thread:

"I would recommend the gold and EXP one (The Golden Pack) to every player. Having access to unlimited gold (Golden Gaffe) allows you to play the game forever without running out of weapons (which was a serious issue in FE: Sacred Stones on GBA). The EXPonential Growth is great for when you get new, underleveled characters, or when you're trying to intentionally use characters with bad stats.

All the other packs are completely optional and probably not worth the money (unless you're a die-hard like me). Two of them allow extra classes, Dread Fighter and Bride. The rewards for finishing the other harder ones allow you to over-develop characters, which is required to beat the challenge DLC packs (so it's kind of a spiraling situation)."

This game was amazing, even for full price. I put 30+ hours into the campaign and I loved every second. If you don't have it... GET IT NOW!

I feel like this is one of those games that I should buy 10 new copies and just stash in a closet somewhere for some time. I've seen copies of the original one for GBA go for over $400 new.

They come in packs of three for those who want them.

I agree with the hate against DLC, but I love it for this game. Fire Emblem is something you can never get enough of, IMO. Been a fan since the GC version came out (flipped that about 5 times ... Volke! and Rolf, too, he's pretty bad ass).

I think the DLC is worth it, imo. =)

I'm somewhere between 3-5 hours into it and so far I have to say I'm a little disappointed. It's just sooooooo slow so far and the AI in the battles ticks me off. I'll be beating on one of their guys with one of my strongest and they'll have me on the ropes as well. If they'd bring another guy over I'd be done in for. Instead of that they pull EVERY GUY in the area off their respective battles to move in and kill my healer whom I just moved into range.

EVERY SINGLE BATTLE so far has resorted to the same damn thing - protect my healer at all costs. This is usually done by keeping them far away from battle so they're essentially useless. I basically have to clear a small area and keep my healer far away. Then, I get to wait there as I heal all my people (since I can't actually do it in battle). Once they're all healed up move up to next area and do it again.

I'll give it a few more battles but between the insane amount of cutscenes and the "hunt down my healer (and to a lesser extent mages) at all costs" mentality of the AI it's wearing a bit thin. I also had the impression it was a little more open, which I would expect to open up a bit more any time now. My threshold is around 5 hours for a game, where if it hasn't gotten to me by around 3-6 or so hours I give up.

PS - And I know it shouldn't but the whole "we were too lazy to make ankles so we gave them a 'unique look' with no feet" thing really bugs me haha. For the first hour or so I thought my game was glitching and the characters were glitched into the ground to their ankles.

Primary defense pattern. Most units have no long range at the start of the game, so you can put the healer in the center and have her heal units inside the pattern.

Pair Up units as well.

Healers grow fast at the start of the game.

Start on Beginner Mode Casual.

You know you can skip all the cutscenes, right?

Also thats just part of the game, you have to be able to keep your healers and ranged soldiers protected at practically all times. Just carefully monitor the range of your enemies and keep them outside of it. you can also use your soldier to reduce their range and protect them. You could also try the casual difficulty too

Unfortunately most of the maps at the beginning would require me to FULLY surround the healer which at that point I may as well just keep'em off the screen anyway. It's not that I haven't been able to progress, I haven't had trouble with the difficulty at all. It's just that I find it tiring that EVERY BATTLE resorts to the same thing as far as the healer goes.

So I can either skip the cutscenes and have no clue what's going on, playing a game I would then have zero connection with...or sit through them all and be bored...

I realize that's part of the game but it doesn't make sense within the context of the game. They're playing for the long term when many of the battles (especially right at the beginning) are one-off fights for all either party knows. You'd normally just place soldiers around to keep the healers at bay but not attack them, why waste three soldiers to take out a healer when those same three soldiers could take out one or two of your strongest guys? THEN you go for the healer. Either way, you certainly wouldn't take soldiers off their own battles en masse to pursue a healer.

It just grows tiresome is all but like I said, then every battle boils down to the exact same thing. There's very little room for strategy or improvisation.

I want to like the game don't get me wrong, but so far I fear I may just never get into it. Hopefully I will but if not it's just my opinion...feel free to go on enjoying it.

I've been wondering why some Nintendo games are $34.99 msrp while others are $39.99.

I'll wait for a b2g1 sale to get a keep-sealed-copy as it seems there is sufficient stock at most places I've checked.

They're aiming for your Cleric as you're putting him/her in a position that they are vulnerable to be easily killed in one attack or two, of course they're going to aim for them first to cripple your team more. If a healer is not in range they won't just purposely pass your other units just to aim for them.

Check and/or toggle the movement and attack ranges on the enemy units.

If you still don't know how to properly keep your healing based units safe, there are staffs such as the Psychic Staff, which will allow you to heal your units from a safe distance.

I understand why and how it works, the difficulty isn't my problem it's the annoyance of every battle devolving into that. Personally, for me, it takes away from a lot of the potential fun to be had.
