I don't know if you know what's happening in my country or not but it's serious so i wrote a letter to Amnesty(an international human rights assoc.) and im really looking forward to hear what you're thinking.

We're livin' in Republic of Turkey. Turks, Bosnians, Albanians, Kurds, "Zaza"s, Georgians, Circassians, Gypsies, Armenians, Greeks etc. We're students, teachers, lawyers, doctors, judges, engineers, architects etc. We're heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, asexuals. We're the future of this country. First of all, we're humans.

Over years, different governments tried to tear us apart. We're accused by people who told us: "You're gay, you're communist, you're socalist, you're racist, you're lesbian, you're satanist, you're from a different ethnic group so you don't deserve to live"

We learned to tell'em:
Just because i like metal or rock music doesn't mean that i'm a satanist.
You can't offend me for my different sexual choises.
I have a different ideology, so what ?
I love my country, my people, i proud of'em, so what ?
Yeah I'm a Kurd or Circassian, i proud of my own culture, but i'm living here and i deserve to live here more than you do, most of all it's not your business.

We learned to tell ourselves "brother/sister" regardless of what we are.

Just because we love Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk(founder of Republic of Turkey), we make mention of him, they accused us of putting him on a pedestal.

This is not Ottoman Empire or any regality, Republic of Turkey does not have any native religion. Government should work independent of religous thoughts.

In elementary schools, they're making propaganda of Islam under lessons titled "Culture of Religions and Ethics". We're talking about children there. When you was ten, didn't you believed when they said there's a boogey-man under your bed ? First of all it's not "Facts/Fundamentals of Islam", it's "Culture of Religions and Ethics", shouldn't they teach about religions and show respect to other religious or non-religious thoughts ? If you say anything about that, they accuse you of being infidel. First of all, showing respect to other religious thoughts is an important part of Islam and absolutely defined in The Constitution.

People who accuse us of putting Atatürk on a pedestal, now setting Recep Tayyip Erdoğan(Current prime minister of T.C.) on a pedestal.

Maybe our economy are growing up or not, it doesn't matter, it's one of the duties of government already.

What we want is;
Open-space, parks, freely hold our boy/girlfriends hands in public and kiss'em, absolute freedom and unity in our contry, not be accused as "ayyaş(habitual drunkard)" for just using alcohol.

It's not government business if a woman wear mini-skirt or turban. It's her own decision and everyone should show respect to her.

Now we're standing against strict policy of our government. Police use disproportionate force to stop us. We're not militans. Of course there are agent provocateurs trying to merge but we don't let them and exclude them as soon as possible like we don't throw anything at police/anybody or use force against anybody.

Ethem Sarısülük(26 y.o.) has died.
Berkin Elvan(14 y.o.) has a lethal injury as result of police use of firearm(a capsule of tear gas stuck in his head - he's still in critical condition even after two operations.)
Dilan Dursun, Claudia Roth(German Green Party member) and many others (are injuried).

When they attacked Divan Hotel, there were children inside. They attacked hospitals and a mosque. They beat up protesters.

Now they are trying to hold us over. We can't reach Kızılay Square, Taksim Square etc.
We have right to protest. And we want to use it.

Turkey has a fascinating history, littered with some really bad choices in terms of alliances, but as an outsider looking in, the people and the governments of the past few years can't seem to decide if they want to be part of Europe, or part of the Middle East. It seems like the politicians on either side are crazed zealots much like the two political parties here in the US. Can't say I entirely disagree or agree with either end of the Turkish political spectrum, but if Turkey goes instable, Syria becomes a bigger problem, Israel becomes a bigger problem, and Russia is just waiting to jump in and help destabilize. God help you guys if the US ever gets involved to fuck it up worse than any other single country could.

But the ones based on Christianity are what infect the world and leave their blood-stained fingerprints all over continents, in a trickle down of greed, violence, economic exploitation, and hatred, that is still present throughout many parts of the world, generations later. South/Central America, many parts of Africa. Some would argue the United States is currently employed in empire building at the expense of other sovereign nations as a nation that proudly informs us "In God We Trust".

How many drone strikes are countries with an Islamic majority, or political party in power conducting in our neck of the woods? How many random Americans are they illegally detaining? How many foreign countries are they occupying? How many puppet governments have they propped up? Sure you want to point the finger? It's going to mean you have to ignore the thousands pointing back at you.

There are a lot of so-called Islamic countries that are a complete and total mess, but many of them have been countries for less than 100 years. Go read up on the first 100 years of America. It wasn't iPads and Nikes. It was some grisly shit.

Right! Because the US has used them to take out the N. Koreans, South Americans, Chinese...oh wait...who are we using them to kill?

Crusades 2.0, started under Bush and his born again Christianity, continued and expanded under Obama who constantly reminds us he's a devoted Christian.

 
I want us out of the world policing business, but it doesn't mean I like the people we are droning. I prefer Western culture and values to Middle Eastern culture and values no matter how annoying the religious right is. I'd rather live next to Christian wackos than Muslim wackos as far as modern day is concerned. At the end of the day, I prefer to live next to people who aren't that religious and pay lip service to their religion, or just use it as a networking tool.

I voted against the Crusades, btw.

Stop vilifying religion, especially Christianity, the Pope isn't behind the drone controls, it's government. And if Obama is a Christian he is a piss poor one who forgot the messages or never listened. Then again he had a racist pastor so I guess we can't blame him entirely. Its governement and power, they can hide behind "religion" but if that's not the true spirit of the said religion then you shouldn't be so gulliable, if you have such a gripe with Christianity then what do you make of the state of the middle east? Is that the true spirit of Islam or is Al-Quaida justified? And you make it sound like everything you described as belonging to one party when it's both.

Besides Communism killed 100 million people but the left jerks off to socialism. They'll lock me away for saying it, and under Communism that would be putting it lightly, but governments do the most killing. They got the nukes, they are behind the conspiracies, they are the most corrupt. They literally have the license to kill, make laws as they see fit and the license to print money, if you can prove that the Vatican is behind all this then by all means, otherwise shut your mouth.

Bingo. That was the point I was making, that was entirely lost on him and the other guy that posted all pissed off reminding us to keep the Christ in Christmas!

Because you know, Christians are profiled at the airport, spied on by the government, frequently interviewed by law enforcement and in extreme cases detained on suspicion. But if a school tells your 8 year old he can't have a Christmas tree in the classroom, then the government hates your faith, at it's like, totally worse or something. :/

The protesters are angry at Islamic law encroaching on their country. Aren't their giant protests a slight at Islam? They don't want it in their government there. I don't like Islamic law either. I am intolerant of it.

I shouldn't worry though, they certainly know how to take criticism!

There isn't a single country on the planet that is truly governed by Islamic law. They can claim whatever they want, but in terms of the details of the faith, the method by which the ruler should be nominated, down to minute detail of law, not a single one is an Islamic government, in fact, none are really even that close.

I'm intolerant of stupidity and willful ignorance to spout off opinions based on no fact. We all have our groups I suppose.

Imagine a rainbow coming across your monitor right now with the words "The More You Know" overlaid.

 
The Turkish protesters say are fighting the Islamic views of their Prime Minister and creeping Islamic influence on their country.

In other countries, well, I'll see you in Sharia court, mister.
 
It was super weird talking to AK supporters in 2007. If you replaced Turkey and Islam with United States and Christianity, I would have sworn I was talking to a Republican.
