If it gets its hooks in you, it will keep you occupied for a loooooong time.  The changes to Tri and new networking features are nice.  In terms of content, it's a steal even at $60.

I enjoy it :) You basically have a central hub town where you get quests, craft, etc. You can either go out in the wild hunting small enemies or take missions which usually entail the larger (and later in the game, massive!) enemies. You have a wide selection of weapons you can pick from (swords, lances, bow, dual wield, etc.). It can be a huge time sink, although I play it rather casually for ~3-4 hours a week. It also has online multiplayer for the missions and such.

There's a demo for it if you haven't seen it before. The demo completely skips any kind of tutorial though...

It's a mediocre action "RPG" with poor controls, a mismanaged end game, and an unenjoyable grind. However, if you have friends who are willing to play with you or at least someone to talk to about it, it's a worthwhile investment.

Hell, I'm 250 hours in and I don't plan to stop for another 50-100. I just hope Monster Hunter 4 will be legitimately good instead of... what we got with Ultimate.

I have never played a MH game before but tried the demo on the eshop. It seems like it will be good once you get into it but there was no tutorial in the demo so I didnt really get a good idea of what the entire game has to offer. I want to like it, but I would personally wait. $20 or bust!

This is tempting. I put a ton of hours into MH3, so I have to figure out if an Ultimate upgrade is worth it.

Also if anyone is interested, looks like the 3DS version is on sale for 32.87. Which is the lowest I have seen it since those pre-order deals.

I got that from the demo. HORRIBLE. Absolutely hated the controls. If anything will put you off buying it, it's the demo.

I'd like to think I caused the price change. \:D/  It was still $57 last night, and then I hit that "tell us about a lower price" button. Linked to the Target page. Then woke up this morning to see it drop it in price.

You've waited this long, so I'd wait till 4. The underwater combat they added here is terrible.

I should mention this game is a blast with couch co-op, but you're gonna need three 3DSes and one Wii U with invested players on each for maximum enjoyment.

This game is well worth the money and is the reason I purchased a Wii U earlier this year.

The game takes skill to learn the weapons and the monster behaviors/patterns and will punish you for making mistakes.  Once you learn how to play the game it is extremely enjoyable.

Played the living heck out of Tri on the Wii, knew I'd have to upgrade when the servers went down. Have both the Wii U and 3DS versions.

It's a console MMO. Grind, upgrade and hang out w/ friends. Party up and take down huge beasts, or party up and go resource hunting for building new weapons/armor. It's all about animation priority like Demon Souls, too.

The demos were horrible, IMO. They just threw you into a mission w/ ZERO instruction. The full game itself doesn't explain itself; you have to dig online for info.

Most people will hate it. Power through the first 10 hours or so, and suddenly you're hit w/ this huge, LONG, amazing game experience.

Wii U version is the full package w/ online play and voicechat. The 3DS version doesn't have online, but can pipe through a free Wii U app to get online w/ both Wii U and other 3DS players, and includes streetpassing. You can also move your save between the Wii U and 3DS.

How much is there to do from just a single player perspective? Do you need to play in a group to be able to complete the game?

You can do most of the game solo, and the game gives you a couple of NPC minions later on that help a small amount. The late-late-game monsters are close to impossible without other players, but I suppose it could be done solo :) You'll get plenty of hours of enjoyment even if you don't go online

The demo is not indicative of how this game is at all.  It just dumps you into a hunt without any context. This is a good price for a good game.

I'm not sure I'm ready yet for Monster Hunter U. I put an absolutely MASSIVE amount of time into Tri, despite not having online and never figuring out how to play the Lance right. I can't make that kind of commitment right now.

There is a lot to do, and everything in the whole game is possible solo.
