I know this isn't a screaming deal, but this is the best price I could find if you need one today.

Walmart.com has the genuine Sony white Dualshock 3 for $38.93 with free ship to store, or in-store pickup if your local store has them in stock. Most (if not all) stores are still carrying this at $54.99, but my local Wally World had no problem price-matching it to the online price. I'm working on posting the receipt, in case that helps anyone.

Too bad with the recent lighter color dualshiocks the red LED light shines through the cheap plastic. Its really annoying and forces me to only stick with the dark and transparent colored ones.

ID love a white, but the LED light is just too ugly.

i keep hearing stuff about the newer dual shocks being way cheaper than the old ones. I thought it was bunk but ive heard way too many people complain about it. Did they really drop the quality or is it people just complaining? I know the newest PS3 is a cheap POS, so maybe theres merit to the claims.

I ask because i was thinking of getting my niece one of the pink ones if they were on sale. I still use my old good black ones

no they r good. my bro juss bought one. im jeallies cuz the white one is quite nice and who cares if he led is transparent unless u are a four yr old playing video games for the first time nd have to wonder what player u ate or wat button u have to press

Yes there is merit. back in 09 I had a satin silver controller along with my regular black one. The plastic and quality of that was great, and there was no light shining through the front of the controller (where the Red LED player indicators are). I sold it a year or so back to get a new one, and Ive been going through dual shock 3's like crazy trying to find one that is passable quality anymore. People probably don't notice as much as I do, but they certainly don't match the earlier DS3s. I first picked up a red one, it was crap. Then a Gold one. It was a better but you can still see the red LED light through the thin plastic. Then I went for a transparent one because it makes sense to see the LED light.

The Black ones and possibly the blue/dark green/Dark Mettallic Grey ones are the only ones that deal with the LED problem well enough not to notice.

The pink one should be fine for a younger person, they won't care. They are still the same kind of build quality just with much cheaper plastic, and lighter feeling. The red LED light will shine through on a new pink one.

And what are you even talking about? lol. Im talking about the cheap plastic used on the DS3's nowadays (since around late 2011 early 2012), not the transparent controllers specifically. "who cares if the led is transparent" ...wa wut?

I completely agree. I picked up one of the newer red ones a couple of months ago and the light shines through the plastic completely making it look like a knockoff. It's really disappointing considering how much these controllers cost.

I'll report back tonight on the one I bought today. It's not a big deal to me, so I'm keeping it no matter what, but I'll try and get some pictures tonight so those of you that would be bothered by it can judge for yourselves. I haven't opened it yet, so I can't speak to the build quality either. I have an original black Dualshock at home as well, and I'll get a weight comparison, and let y'all know how the plastic feels in my clumsy but capable hands.

Haha something I've wanted to do but too lazy. I really didn't think anyone cared or noticed at all anyway. I have a weird eye for this kind of thing and it just bugs the crap out of me. In lower light situations (the way I always play my games) the LED light really distracts. You can't really notice it in daylight as much.

Do the controllers work different with the new plastic? Are special moves harder to perform? Head shots more difficult? I don't want to get one if my game playing ability will suffer from a lower quality plastic.

I actually found the plastic to have a better, less slick feel, and there were no ill effects playing Sonic Racing Transformed on my PC. If the LED cosmetics are an issue for you, the light definitely shines through the plastic. Doesn't bug me, but I could see where some would be annoyed by it. I'll post pics later for evidence exhibit A.

Indeed. Gameplay doesn't suffer, but seriously if they are going to drop the quality they need a new Msrp now. 54.99 is too much. 39.99 should be the new price, then we can actually have decent sales.

I'm sorry but when you have an original DS3 for so long, an avid ps3 gamer for years and years, you get a bit miffed at the quality when you want to replace the controller. I would love to have a different color other than black but sheesh.

Also the plastic probably has the "less slick" feel because there isn't months of wear and grease lol. All controllers loose their grip and become pretty slick over time. I love how a new controller feels out of the box but it doesn't last as long as I wish it woulda haha.

I've got Gold (recent), Silver (from like 2008?), 2 black and 1 black Sixaxis, a Camo, and a Red.

The red is the only one where the indicator light shines through, but it's not noticeable, nor should you really care about it.

As for the weight and feel of the plastic between the red and the others, it feels no different. Charges a lot faster though than the others. Haven't noticed the battery dying any faster though, which leads me to believe they improved the battery capabilities on the newer ones.

Purely speculation.

My old black from from the Slim 2010 system still works great. My Camo one left joystick broke 2 months after I bought it. The white one I just bought does have the red light shining through, but it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that the face buttons squeak whenever I push on them sometimes.

My old black ones leak grease if I dont use them. My camo ones are great. Light barely shines through.

This how I got around this little fact... I bought a red dualshock 3 controller and it made the red shine look awesome.
