Time for some cagcast, I hope you feel better CheapyD, I been listening since the double digits. I have listen to lots of podcast but this podcast has been my constant. You definitively got me through good and bad and I can only hope that we can do the same for you. Remember the community will always be there to support you cheapy. When a person i never met starts to cry and I feel it in my heart just shows you definitely made a positive impact in my life.

DmC steam code entry please :)

Great show guys. I hope Cheapy gets over this emotional rollercoaster he's on.

As for the reprints non-problem. I think you guys pretty much covered all/most possibilities. People are just outraged for the sake of being outraged. Especially when the price is higher than original MSRP. But hey, Gamestop has to make a profit. If there's demand, they'll adjust the price to maximize that profit.

I also would like an entry for the DmC steam code. Thanks.

Great show as usual guys.  Cheapy, if you're taking a big financial hit removing the ads, why not just leave them in?  I don't mind them (to be honest, I'm to the point where I don't really SEE them any more - my mind just kinda blanks out that part of the screen), and I can't image there are that many CAG's who feel that strongly about not seeing them.

Meanwhile, please toss my hat in the ring for the DMC steam code.

Keep the ads, and the people who hate them can just use adblock.  I whitelist any website I want to support (including this one) because ads don't bother me unless they're the stupidly annoying types.

I don't think those GTA 5 videos are from the console versions, either.  It could be another Saint Rows 4 situation where the PS3 and 360 suffer from a sluggish frame rate.

Thanks guys. Just a little rough patch that just happened to take place too close to a CAGcast recording. We'll be cool.

Great show, guys! Things will work out fine, Cheapy. If you have to bring back ads, just do it. It's not like you made a big deal out of removing them or promised anybody anything. I think most of us are just grateful for the lively community and deal info.

Also, please count me in for the Devil May Cry giveaway.

Protip: If you are an Amazon Prime member you get free (as included in the price of your prime membership) select streaming movies and TV shows that you can watch from your game console. The DC movies (Flashpoint, 2 Earths, Doom, etc.) are all in that service.

FYI, Flashpoint is not currently free with Prime streaming.

CheapD what happened with the ads? You say you are upset but never say why. Did I miss something? They are removed and now the revenuers are charging you money for not running ads? Whats the deal? Just put them back up. No big deal right?

I don't care about gamestop making money off games. Reprints are indistinguishable from the originals. GQD sold reprints to consumers for $50 when the originals were valued at $100. Value for originals then plummet because brand new copies can be bought at a lower price. The article you posted says GS purchased a bulk amount from GQD. I think they want to sell these as opened used original copies to keep the original value. Selling them unopened would be a dead giveaway they are reprints. In my opinion, it's like buying licensed copies of a popular art piece. Then artificially aging it to resemble an original to raise the value. Collecting games is ridiculous but selling a "fake" collectible is unscrupulous. Sad part is GS makes money either way. When everyone finds out they are "fake" the price is lowered and GS still makes a profit.

In for Steam code!

Pls post link for Shadow Warrior! I want to watch Wang wash wang! Come on guys. You don't remember this game?? It's like the samurai version of Duke Nukem but with slightly better graphics and sound. Plus a tad bit more mature (in content). IMO Duke is T for Teen and Wang is rated M.

I love you guys but I totally disagree with your opinion about GameStop and the Xenoblade markup. Imagine if every other retailer like Amazon or Walmart decides to start selling new games for prices they think is better cuz it's rare or exclusive to their sites. My main issue is GameStop is the only retailer you could buy Xenoblade new in NA (aside from Nintendo's site originally) so their markup makes it look worst for them. If this was a game that other sites sold and ended up being rare or sold out then maybe they have a good excuse to sell it for more. but Gamestop controls the stock completely in NA. the only other way to get this legit new is from resellers so of course they'll be marked up there. Anyway, It's just scummy to me and I do hope people will not buy it for that price. It will only encourage them to do this for other exclusives they sell in the future.

That is the nature of capitalism. They have a product you want, they will charge the most they can. If you do not like that, don't buy it. Eventually the price will go down if no one buys it at the inflated price.

Edited my post to include another beef I have with GS. Mainly about GS controlling the stock for new copies of Xenoblade.

I understand the whole capitalism thing but it doesn't mean we can't say what they're doing is terrible and shitty for consumers. I guess we should look forward to GameStop eventually hiking the prices for all games with GS exclusive preorders in the future.

Sorry, I just feel too strongly about this issue. It's just as bad as Scrooge talking without his mouth moving.

I guess you guys are sort of right when it comes to that "Sweden" isn't gonna give or take on the sales for the release of Xbox One. Still Sweeden together with especially Norway, and also Denmar, wich all got postponed release, is probably the markets where the citizens have the greatest purchasing power. As an example the console is sold in Norway for 3999,- NOK ( That is $678,48 !! And I've earlier worked at shops selling consoles in Norway, and they loose money selling the consoles at this price, so MS is probably making a LOT of money on selling these consoles in the Scandinavian countries.). I would then say that it could be a mistake from MS not releasing the consoles in November in this market.

There are allready a lot of talk in Norway, Sweden and Denmark of people canceling the XOne-orders and ordering PS4 instead..

Edit: Spelling errors.

I think the Wii U will fair out ok this holiday with a combination of both of the new consoles having limited supply and with Nintendo's first party releases these next few months. I don't see the Wii U selling as much as the Wii did when it first was released, but I don't see XO and PS4 doing it either. We will see the drought happen on the new consoles like it always happens and when that happens the new Mario, Mario Kart, Wii Fit, and other Nintendo games will be out (maybe even that Pokemon skylanders game will be huge.) It's all about waiting now but I think Nintendo still has time to show the public why they want the console.

Kepp the ads.

Put me in for DMC dude.

Regarding the inclusion of Kinect, one of the issues that not many people seem to talk about is that the main Kinect game that was supposed to launch along side the console (Kinect Sports Rivals) was delayed into next year.  That seems weird to me that millions of us will have Kinects but we won't have anything gaming related to use it for this holiday other than optional features in games that are primarily designed to be played with a standard controller.

Also, if the Kinect continues to be included in the box and the price stays at $500, then perhaps the digital extras included with the Day One edition of the console should be more than just a few insignificant downloadable extras.  Lococycle for free?  More free content for Killer Instinct instead of just Jago?  Physical additions to the retail package seem unlikely at this point, but I would like a media remote.

If GameStop wants to take advantage of Xenoblade's current used market price, I don't really care. What's kind of shitty is how they want it both ways: they print NEW copies of the game, and act like they're legitimately used copies that were reallocated from various locations so they can sell them for nearly twice the price.

I know they're in the business to make money and I'm fine with that. I just wish they'd be a little honest about what they're doing.

EDIT: Please enter me in the drawing for the DmC code. Thanks!

I watched Flashpoint yesterday. It was ok, but I greatly prefer The New Frontier. The anime style of Flashpoint was a big turnoff. Flash looked great but everyone else looked horrible. Aquaman was like a roided up version of himself with lip injections. The commentary was pretty entertaining though. You get to hear the creators acting like big fanboys.

Great show guys keep up the good work! I have to agree with cheapy regarding papers please, initially the idea of the game didn't really sell me but after watching some videos i'm definitely excited to try it.

I would like a DMC Steam Code.

Cheapy, love your story of having a bad day, you still sound pretty cheerful to me once you starting talking games.

I'd like a DMC code.

Thanks!

I think one of the reasons people are upset with Gamestop in regards to Xenoblade is because the game was only available at Gamestop.

Wombat, how can Microsoft show off the Kinect without pissing off the core even more? At E3 they had 2 big Kinect games they could of showed off (Fantasia and Kinect Sports Rivals) but I think they took a conscience effort to not show those games on their E3 stage. Things like Skype and Voice Control are good but the core doesn't care.

The part that I think is douche like the most about the Xenoblade thing is that the creators might not get any money since these are "used" copies. Could be wrong though. Oh and I'll take a DMC steam code.

Great show as always guys!  Whenever I have a bad day, I can always count on my son to cheer me up.  I love it when he runs to the door to give me a hug when I get home from work.  They do grow fast though and you have to cherish each moment.

I don't mind the reprints, but the pricing seems a bit high.  I would have been happy with it priced at $50 for used copies, but $80 seems a bit high.  That said, I'm sure many people will buy a copy.  Would you rather pay $100 for a new copy on Amazon from a third party seller or $80 from GS .  If you're going to open it anyway, I don't see the point of paying the higher price.

I'm down for a DMC code too.

It will all work out Cheapy. Can only go up from being down on the bottom of the hill.

In terms of the prices that Gamestop is charging for Xenoblade and Metroid Trilogy, I think many people are upset about the price being so high for these and the question about them being new/used. I think it's a way for Gamestop to do some cash grabbing, but in reality the more they come out with of these, the lower the price will become. So in fact they are shooting themselves in the foot. Flooding the market so to speak.

*I would like an entry for the DMC steam code*

Three points for this week's Cagcast:

3. Thanks Ship for beta testing the Shield
2. Thanks Wombat for your Huey meets Bane impression
1. Thanks Cheapy for being a trooper and still participating even though you had an emotional day

In for DMC code. Gracias

Wait, people were mad about Origin for a promotion where 100% of the profits go to charities?

It literally took only a day and then I was able to redeem my codes. Have a little patience, people!!

I would love a copy of DmC for Steam.

OK. I have to put my 2 cents worth on the whole GameStop / XenoBlade / Metroid Prime Trilogy issue.

I bought both of those games already and are the last 2 games I actually preordered.

I still have them, so I have no stake in this and am still irritated by this.

I understand a business in business to make money, and the whole supply and demand cycle.

With this in mind, I still feel like this is shady.

They are selling them as "used" giving people the impression that they are among the original release group and therefore are still as rare, so they can nearly double the otherwise "new" price. While they are actually adding another print run to the original number, making them not as rare, making the "value" of them go down.

This is not like what they do when they take new items and open them and sell them as used because they are selling them cheaper and just trying to unload them.

If they can open new items and not sell them at a used lower price (the beaten dead horse known as "display copy") then they should not be able to open new items and sell them as used at a higher pricepoint.

They are not telling people this when they buy them and they are not denying anything, but this whole thing could have been avoided if they just said "You asked for it and we got it for you. But because this printing run was a "special order" is cost more to produce, raising the price. But we did it for you." To me that seems a lot less shady, even though in my experience, most reprints actually cost less.

I guess I don't look like the average gamer. They must have thought I was buying them for my kid or something. They tried the old switch-a-roo on me with some used crap. I paid for brand new copies and GS club membership BS. I usually open up games when I get to the car when I am excited to have it in my hands. When I opened the bag to check out my swag I see that all three titles are opened and two discs are scratched. I promptly returned the games for a full refund and they gave me the Gay Informer and Membershit for free. This may not be a common practice but I am sure greedy owners teach similar tactics.

Could GameStop be opening the reprints to get around paying the publisher its share of the price?

I believe GameStop / the retailer makes about 12% off of a new video game price. If a publisher decides to lower the price of a game, GameStop essentially gets a "rebate" (for a lack of better words) for the copies that they sell during the reduced-price period if they bought them at the original wholesale price.

So does this relationship work the other way around? If GameStop increases the price of a game, do they have to pay the publisher an extra amount?

Is GameStop circumnavigating this by opening those games and selling them as used so that they can set the price at whatever they want and not have to pay the publisher anything extra? (at least when GQD reprinted the Shin Megami games, they charged ~ $40 which was either the same or lower than the original retail price)

I'd gotten cold feet for the DuckTales remake ever since I first heard fifteen bucks.  Don't get me wrong, I like the original DuckTales; I like it so much I still have the cartridge.  I was waiting for the big reveal that DuckTales 2 was also part of Remastered to demand that WayForward cease talking and accept my cash, but that never happened.  Fifteen bucks can buy a lot of game in this day and age, and asking that for what's still a rental-length game the second time around is a bit much for me.

(I see where Wombat's coming from; it wouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I don't think giving ducks a two-frame OP OP OP talking animation is an unreasonable demand in 2013.)

I was recently thinking how weird it is that retailers don't raise prices on certain games that they know are running into scarcity.  I have to presume it's because they don't want the customers coming back and complaining.

I engage in a little casual 'Shipwrecking' of the local retailers, and Dragon's Crown has been selling out all over lately, for instance, until the next shipment arrives.  Their niche game is a hit - I have to assume they've broken their Catherine sales record.  This probably happens a lot with surprise hits from small publishers, and someone could definitely sell a few games for $80 in this situation if they wanted.

The only way this Gamestop thing seems wrong to me is if they basically manufactured the scarcity by holding back, or really did get a new printing, but is selling the games as used.  Either way, it's the actual dishonesty that's wrong, not the capitalism, at least in my mind.

Store-based exclusive games seems like a bad idea all around, and it's funny that this is the last shoe to drop on how much Nintendo underestimated the long-tail demand for Xenoblade.  They should have held it back, prettied up the resolution, and used it to move Wii U's.

Every time I hear Wombat complain about the bills of the ducks not moving, I ask myself, "How many more years do I have of this left?"

Wombat, I enjoy the idea of your other podcast, but I would really love if you guys ditched the regimented format, did a topic of the week and spent the rest of the time talking video games. I think you would really have something.

I don't care about a DMC code; I just wanted to say that I hope your week got better, and that --like a lot of posters here-- I've looked forward to the CAGcast each week for years now, and it's thoroughly brightened my day on many occasions.

Thanks, guys.

I would appreciate a DmC key.  Thank you in advance.

Being married with children myself, I can understand Cheapy's frustration when family life not at its ideal.  Hang in there!

Cracked up at the "Who's Highpitch?" quote, I haven't heard that in so long. Hope you don't let all the emotions get to you Cheapy, you have a lot to be happy about, and I assume you gave Mrs. Cheapy a well deserved apology. The Nvidia Shield looks cool but as Shipwreck said, there doesn't seem like any reason to get it. I myself just made a new gaming PC, so I'm good for now.

Great show, would definitely love the DmC steam code, if you would be so kind.

Sounds to me like GameStop just wants to sell Xenoblade for 90 bucks, and marking it as used was probably the only way they could do it. I imagine Nintendo wouldn't have allowed them to sell it new at 90, but they have no control over used pricing. This certainly has nothing to do with "trying to fool the customer." Reprints typically aren't distinguishable from the original anyway, and if they are... well, just don't buy them. Anyone who actually gives a damn would surely know what to look for.

Anyway, I can understand people being upset about the 90-dollar price tag when reprints typically go for less than the original MSRP, but additional prints devaluing the game? Oh, come on. Games are a terrible investment to begin with. You wait 20 years and you get... the exact same price you paid for it way back when. They can't all be EarthBounds.

Sorry you had a bad day CheapD, even batman had a bad day once. Enjoy your time in San Francisco.

Ducktales was fun, and I liked the voice actors so having them, mouth moving or not, was an added bonus for me. I picked it up with the preorder PS+ discount so I felt I got a deal. I beat it on easy, played it on hard at first and remembered almost instantly my NES days and why I never beat it as a child.

A price drop on the WiiU is necessary at this point, I don't see myself picking this up any time soon. As for Microsoft, I hope they keep adding more benefits for picking it up by listening to the community. I'd love to see a Kinectless version of it though, but if they want to make it viable to developers it has to be included and it makes sense to pack it in there.

I have never felt the need/urge to reply but was laughing at work while listening to this podcast while Wombat spoke of Super Smash Brothers for the WiiU. I literally just had a conversation with my wife about picking up a WiiU the day Super Smash is released. I totally feel like that is the game to be a system seller. Maybe it's me buying it for nostalgia.
