The latest news is worth a bump, as Famitsu recently did an article with a bunch of new info:

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call packs all 90 songs from Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and ups the music list to over 200 tunes. The Nintendo 3DS game will have songs from all of the numbered Final Fantasy games (I-XIV) plus Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and spinoffs like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest(!).

Famitsu says Curtain Call will have music from these games:

Final Fantasy I – XIV
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Dissidia Final Fantasy
Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Type-0
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call also has over 60 characters and more than 40 enemies. The game also has button controls, supports StreetPass and a multiplayer Versus mode.

Details, direct screens for Theatrhythm: Curtain Call

Here’s what’s new in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, according to Kamedani’s fine translation work:

  • 1vs1 multiplayer battles - “Try to get a higher score to beat your opponent while using techniques to attack (interfere with) them.”
  • "Hunt for bosses by progressing through special maps, with the addition of Quest Melodies"
  • "Use items from your Item Collection to strengthen your party."
  • Streetpass improvements - “Trade Profile Card designs and play data”
And while there will be more than 200 songs included in this 3DS release, Square Enix still intends to release DLC for it.

What's new with the upcoming Curtain Call edition of Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy?

By Kevin Gifford on Sep 18, 2013 at 12:45p

Last week we brought you the first word on Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, the sequel to the FF-themed rhythm game Square Enix released last summer on the 3DS. This week's issue of Famitsu features a more in-depth preview of the game, outlining the new songs, modes, and other additions Square Enix and the developers at Tokyo-based outfit indieszero are working on.

According to the preview, Curtain Call will feature more than 90 songs in addition to the full track list from the original Theatrhythm, including tunes from such offbeat sources as FF7: Advent Children and the Super NES title Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. "The way that Masahiro Suzuki, the director over at indieszero put it, it's all really obvious song selection to him," joked Ichiro Hazama, producer on the Theatrhythm games. "It's most important that you keep customers happy, but we're certainly having fun developing this, too, and the song selection plays a part in that."

Other new features include a 'quest medley' mode that combines field and battle tunes into a single experience, collectible cards you collect to power up your characters, and a new multiplayer mode where players compete on the same battle song to try and outscore their opponent. "It's a bit like competitive multiplayer on a falling-block puzzle game," Hazama said. "As you make successful taps and beat monsters, your gauge fills up and you'll trigger effects to get in the way of your opponent's game."

Curtain Call is due out next spring in Japan, and as Hazama describes it, between this and the DLC tracks he has planned out for the future, this'll probably be it for the series. "We're thinking that we'd like this to be the final Theatrhythm," he said. "It'll be the newest, the best, and the final one. A lot of rhythm action game sequels don't include the songs from the original game, but with our project, if we didn't include tunes like 'Clash on the Big Bridge' [FF5] or 'Isn't It Wonterful' [FF10], you can't place the FF crown on that. So instead of just adding new songs, we want to have this game be the base upon which we add new songs and try to get as close to a complete song list as possible."

Three new trailers were put up today, along with a bunch of screenshots and artwork.

This one focuses on the new "Quest Medley" mode, where it fills a flowchart-style world map with random songs, with a boss battle at the end.

This video showcases the new Versus Mode, where you can challenge other players via the Internet or local wireless, or battle against CPU opponents. Much like Guitar Hero III's multiplayer, you can activate power-ups (e.g. hide their arrow icons until the last moment) to mess with the other player's board:

Finally, the third video goes over the song-selection/sorting features. It sounds minor, but with over 200 songs to sift through, an assortment of sorting options would be necessary:

Other info:

- Barret Wallace (FFVII) and Edge (FFIV) are now party members, along with Machina and Rem from FFType-0.

- The release date for Japan is April 24th, 2014. No western release has been announced yet, but the Curtain Call trademark was registered in Europe a while back, so they might be planning on bringing it over.

Was going to buy the first one (didn't know about the new one), but I'll wait now and buy this one

Has this been answered? I'm not going to repurchase dlc, I'd rather keep what I've got.
Curtain Call includes all of the original's songs and DLC on the cart, with the exception of the song from VersusXIII/XV ("Somnus"), so there's no need to re-buy the DLC. The Wikia page has the full song list.

On that note, they recently revealed new DLC songs, just minor songs from V-XIII-2 and some Romancing SaGa so far, and a DLC character (Yuffie) for Curtain Call. They're also listed on the Wikia page.
